Being a poet out a writer is not just about being able to write. Its about being able to take your thoughts, put then into words, string those words into comprehensive sentences all the while being able to keep the emotional connection between your mind and the paper. Being able to make the reader fell what you want them to fell, see what you want them see. Vivid colors, a certain smell. Connecting your emotions to your words is what it truly means to be a writer. Without that your words Stew nothing than ink on a paper.
I work all night in a desolate place. No interactions of any kind. I sit and watch the night turn to day, my only companion is a ticking click that seems to laugh at my boredom every now and then. My phone provides limited entertainment and my notebook is almost full of poetry. I find the lack of stimulus very unnerving at times, but i cope. What i wouldn't give for a conversation that lasts all night.

Being a poet myself, I agree....we have to
make people see, feel what we are trying to
convey, and to be able to do that makes
it all worthwhile when a reader "gets" it.

Everything I write is based off random thoughts

Even random thoughts have an element of emotional continuity to them, but i do the same as well sometimes.
