Nothing is true, everything is permitted.
This seems rather cynical.
It would be if it were doctrine. But it is merely an observation on the nature of reality. To say that nothing is true is to realise that the foundations of society are fragile and that we must the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions and that we must live with our consequences, whether glorious or tragic.

The foundations of society are fragile, hence the need for religion. If people realized everything they believed in were false society, as we know it, would fall. Most people don't think for themselves, or research, or educate themselves...when information is so available. They, like sheep, are lead by the Shepard.
I find it rather interesting that while religion is what has held us together socially, it's also what tears us apart. For centuries before Christianity came about there were the pagans, Romans and Greeks and yet each was torn down simply because it was easier to change than accept.
We've entered another such situation with the Middle East and all the hardcore conservative Muslims that are able to wage war with weapons far more advanced and deadly. I just wish that as a species we weren't so destructive; we've lost so much knowledge already at the hands of religion, we don't need to lose more, and yet that's exactly what will happen.
I couldnt agree more with you.
Unfortunately human race destroy many things
