I became aware of my heart beating a mile a minute, my lungs felt like they’d stop working, I gasped for air, feeling light headed. The shadow looked as if it was shining, I shielded my eyes from the intensely bright light, and fell to the floor, the shinning faded and there stood Bradley.
I blinked several times, my head felt light as a feather. I’m dreaming. I have to be…it’s the only explanation. The illusion of Bradley smiled at me; I couldn’t help but smile back. He walked over and held out his hand shaking his head , “ Hello Maria” , I grinned stupidly, I’d snapped finally I guess, I didn’t care. I took his hand and yelped, pulled my hand back, eyes round, his hand felt warm and firm, he was real. “Oh My God…you’re real”
Bradley laughed, shaking his head again. “Of course I’m real Maria.”
He helped me up; I shakily sat on my bed, “How are you here? The Police, The town…we all looked for you.”
Bradley sat down, patted my head and sighed. “I told you were I was going Maria, you know I was with my dad.”
I nodded, and flopped back, coming home for the first time in years, seeing Bradley now, this was just taking too much out of me. Bradley lay back, and stared at my ceiling and smiled. “I’ve missed this place; remember when we would sneak hermit crabs up here?”
He laughed again, a wonderful laugh, and I blushed, realizing he’d grown handsome over the years. I turned away and looked at the door, my stomach growled; it was past my usual breakfast time.
He obviously heard it and sat up, “I’m keeping to from your breakfast, and you should go.”
I sat up alarmed “Are you leaving again? “And with that I threw my arms around him.
“Please don’t go again, you’re my only friend” I whispered.
He stiffened at first, and then hugged me back. “Course not, your my friend, I came to see you, besides, I have business here”
I sat up and realized there were tears streaming down my face, I blushed and quickly whipped them away and stood up, I turned back to Bradley. “You stay here, ok? I’ll be done in a bit.”
He grinned and saluted me “aye aye captain.” I smirked and walked out the door.
