With my eyes still closed, my fingertips slide from stone to wood. This new sensation flowed over me, it was of age. This wood was ancient with memories, these memories I couldn't understand. Stunning me for a few moments as I stood there pressing my palm onto the wood, I open my eyes. A large wooden door loomed over me. Filling my vision, there was nothing special about this door, but the enhancing of my vision picked out more detail than I could ever imagined seeing in almost total darkness.
Looking around there was no handle. Bewildered as to how and why I was in this space I push, flinging the door wide open with ease. "It wasn't locked." I thought to myself curiously, as I peered out through the open doorway.
What I seen was something of a shock. I was open countryside. This stone building I knew but didn't was atop a hill, with rolling countryside spanning as far as the eye could see. Low lying mist covering the fields below.
Did my senses deceive me? Could this really be true?
"ARGH!!!!!!!!"
Suddenly a feeling overwhelmed me, forcing me to my knees. Hunger, that's what it is! Or was it? This sensation was new to me, the nearest description that could fit, was as if you hadn't eaten or drank anything for as long as memory could recall, yet not being hungry or thirsty in the slightest.
Crawling slowly and painfully through the open doorway, the cool night air struck me, causing my whole body to spasm in pain, burning in agony as if it was the day after a marathon.
"Get up!" I yelled to myself. "Don't be weak! Be strong!" Though thoughts in my mind were saying otherwise. My body resisted as I tried to force myself to my feet, only managing a crouch, tilting my head back I let out a mighty roar and ran....
Upon the awakening, the night seemed darker, yet clearer than ever before. I could see all the detail though there was little light. My eyes start to focus upon the surroundings, a dark, cool, close space.
It was a home from home, so familiar in the extreme that I knew it well, though I had never been here before. It was comforting. As my senses started to light up, flowing fresh information in through my eyes, ears, body and veins, the whole world lit up. Refreshing is a word that can be used for this feeling, but it was more refreshing than a cold shower on a hot day, or a perfectly timed rest in the middle of a hectic day.
Feeling better than ever before, I spring to my feet, rinning my hands over the cold exposed stones all around. Closing my eyes I could sense every flaw within the stone, but most of all it's strength! Is this the strength I have within me also? Time to roam the dark night and find out....
