Recently I gained a permanent contract with a comapny I worked for on a temporary contract. All joys upon this, saves the job hunting in a ruthless and overwhelmed time. Seeing all the old faces, asking the same questions with the same answers.
Yet today, I spent some time actually catching up with some colleagues I had got to know fairly well during my short time with the company.
One of the girls there had said "You are one of the kindest and caring people I know, but the way you dress aren't people scared of you all the time?"
This makes me wonder. Why judge people upon their appearance? My dayside and nightside are one of the same in appearence, the only time in which I look the "norm" is when in work, for I wear the companies' supplied uniform as requested, remove my piercings as they ask. I do the mundane approach of earning money to survive. To have a "Gothic" appearance, people immediate have an attitude of fear towards it. Though, this is not true of the "Elderly", in fact those of 50+ I have found to be envious of "Goths" and "Alternative" styles, for they didn't have that luxury when they were younger. Though the younger generations of 18 - 25 seem to be "blinded" by the magazine and television culture of fashion and being told what and what not to wear. I feel a pang of sympathy in my breast when seeing these brainwashed mundane all around. For they seem to not be able to think for themselves and when they find others not walking the path they walk (or orders brainwashed into them from the idiot box), they become hostile and unrelenting. This has even passed within the Charity representatives. They normally approach with a smile and tell you all they can about their chosen charity to get you to part with your hard earnt money each week or month. Nothing wrong with this, except when they look upon the way you appearand tell you "You're not in trouble, I just want a word with you." I would expect that from the authorities not from charity workers. They are meant to be sympathetic upon all issues, and non-judgemental. It saddens me that the youth of today are narrow minded to the extreme causing issue where there isn't one, causing offence where a "Have a nice day", or "I appreciate you are in a rush but..." would be the most polite and acceptable way in which to approach those of us whom are needing to be somewhere before the time we were there.
I hope that this is but a phase of life and once more acceptance will come in it's stead, but I fear that acceptance has become a third rate Human trait, and only Judge, Jury and Executioner has taken its' place.
Though my colleagues at work accept and like me for whom I am, if I were to pass them in the street without them knowing me, would they be so accepting and liking of me, and others of us?

I think alot has to do with where you are from where you work etc ..
You can work in hottopic and dress as goth as you like and no one would think twice about it .. other places actually have dress codes .. I know i was told either to remove my diamond nose ring or put a bandage over it .. come on whats more of an eye sore a bandage or a tiny diamond ..
People judge way too much and worry about peoples looks .. I can understand to a point .. but to judge a book by its cover ?
We love you the way you are D :)

I THINK ITS SAD AND CRUEL THAT PEOPLE RE SO HARSH AND JUDGMENTAL. I HAVE HAD MY OWN ISSUE WITH BEING JUDGED BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE DUE TO WEIGHT ISSUES CAUSED BY HEALTH ISSUES. IT REALLY HURTS BUT NOW MY ATTITUDE IS WELL IF YOU ARE GOING TO DECIDE WHO AND WHAT I AM AND IF BEING OVERWEIGHT MEANS I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE A FRIEND THEN I AM GLAD I FOUND OUT NOW BEFORE I BECAME CLOSE TO THAT PERSON AND THEY HURT ME . REAL FRIENDS WILL LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE AND IF THEY DONT THEN THEY ARE THE LOSERS NOT YOU .YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS YOURSELF HOW YOU WANT TO AND YOU ARE FINE THE WAY YOU ARE. BE PROUD OF THE KIND SENSTIVE PERSON YOU ARE.
