the feeling of being watched is one that we all know. wither it be by friends, family or stranger. it's happened to us all. maybe for you it has happened at home while reading by a parent or sibling. in school perhaps by a pier. or maybe in at the club or bar by another regular that you have yet to actually talk to. though you always notice them because they're the one that watches with that look in their eye that says i know what you are. i know what you're capable of, and i know what you've done or what you will do.
you feel their eyes burning into the back of your head or the flesh on your face. and you just know..
you know what they think what they want to do and what will happen to them. you don't know why or how. you just do.
you know that they will go home to a dark lonesome house with no one but the spiders and moths to keep them company. you know that they will be involved in a car accident if they go right instead of left. and you know what they will be screaming about later in the evening when they sleep. suddenly waking up covered in sweat, unable to control their breathing in a panic.
you know what will happen and you know what they see. because what they seen has come to you too. the creatures you only believed in when you were a kid, but just ignored when your parents said it was just a dream, just a shadow, just in your head. but it wasn't and you know that now. you know it wasn't just in you're head because you still see them. still watching. watching you, and others. you're not sure why, but they do. they watch, and they listen and see everything we don't. they see the things in the darkness we only have nightmares about. that we are too scared to look at ourselves. they watch over them, like they do us. make sure we are alright, that we haven't been harmed.
it's a little ironic if you think about it. the things that scare us are protected by the creatures that protect us. makes you wonder what they're protecting us from. what could possibly be worse then the things from our own nightmares?
i'll tell you what. things that are so dark that we can't even imagine. the things that can't be stopped by mere weapons of man. creatures that our very own creators couldn't stop if they tried too. and it's a good thing that they don't. because they wouldn't exist anymore if they did try to stop the creatures of the dark. and then the real chaos would begin.
the world really would burn and there would be nothing left. well nothing to be scared of at least. but that would be because every nightmare you could possibly imagine would already be in existence. so no, nothing to fear that you wouldn't have had to already deal with. that is if you survived it all the first time. which would be highly unlikely.
but as is fate, nothing lasts forever. not even the safety you make yourself believe in.
so for now, don't be afraid of the darkness. for the watchers are there. they shall see that all is well, and all is safe. for now that is..
just remember the only time you really need to be scared is when you no longer feel the piercing eyes of the night watching you're every move. because it will be at that point that our protectors will have left, and we will be left to fend and protect ourselves. it will be at that point that our night watchers will have stepped out into the sunlight for the first time and last time.
