He drew the bow back, the air still around him. With a slow, quiet exhale, he released the string. The arrow whistled through the air, hitting its mark on the target.
Aiden was young and fit, with shoulder length brown hair. He lived alone, which he preferred, after his parents had been murdered by the beasts that roamed the land. His father had been a warrior. Strong and proud. Aiden's mother had been a baker. He still remembered how her long blonde hair used to smell of apple's from baking her famous pies.
The weather was cool with a gentle breeze blowing through the trees. Surveying the land before heading back to his little cottage, he notices everything is well. Shade grazing on the grass, the birds singing in their nests. Such calmness sometimes worried Aiden. It often led to an attack. But today seemed different. Not a single beast had been sighted since he saved that strange woman in the woods.
What had she been doing in such a dangerous area alone and unarmed, he wondered. She didn't look like the common folk of the keep yet her clothes shownno sign of nobility. Such thoughts had entered his mind since that day. "I must find out." Aiden muttered under his breath.
She makes her way up the road to the keep. Her mind still swimming with the thoughts of her recent events. Still trying to figure out who could have saved her, she decides to visit the stables before heading into the keep.
Thomas stopped what he was doing as she entered the stables. He was the only one who knew her when she was in disguise. And as every time, he couldn't tear his gaze away from this beautiful woman. She was slender and stood about 5 1/2 feet tall. Her eyes as green as emeralds. Her features as if sculpted by a master. With raven black hair that fell past her shoulders.
He had been surprised that nobody could tell, that this woman was the lady of the keeps daughter. Heir to the throne.
" Good afternoon lady Rhiannon." Thomas nervously said. He was always nervous around her.
" Afternoon Thomas. Has anyone come asking for me?" She replied. She always feared her father would find out and send soldiers to bring her back home. She felt caged when having to stay in the keep.
Rhiannon headed to the stable that housed her horse. The beautiful brown mare was a gift from her father when her riding lessons began. She quickly took to riding and even became better than her mentor.
She backs up, cowering against the old tree. Her fear permeates the air around her. This, coupled with her racing heart, only makes its hunger grow.
The beast approaches, teeth bared, as it growls at its prey. The beast wolf like in characteristics. Larger than any wolf seen with needle like fur running down its back from head to tail.
As the beast lowers itself, the kill only a breathes moment away, she whimpers knowing death draws near. Suddenly the beast falls, an arrow protruding from its head. The woman, still paralyzed with fear, turns to see who fired the arrow. As she scans the woods, she finds nothing. Not a single sign of where the arrow came from.
She stands, still shaky from the events that took place, and begins walking back toward the keep.
He watches this strange woman as she walks away. Still remaining hidden within the dense foliage, he slowly stands, stretching his aching limbs. "Shade" he calls. A black horse gallops up to him stopping right beside him.
"Lets go home girl. One down, god only knows how many more to go." Shade responds with a grunt as he climbs into the worn saddle that once belonged to his father.
