A kid walked into my MOVING SUV Wednesday afternoon!!

.....So I'm driving along the street where my daughter's school is located. The speed limit there is 25mph, and I'm driving much slower than that because of the after-school traffic. I see a handful of girls crossing the street, indending to walk behind my vehicle as I passed. The girls move quickly, holding hands and making a chain. I see 3 of the girls in my rearview mirror, passing my car when I hear a very sickening thump! One of the second graders was not looking straight ahead and literally walked into the rear door of my car! I hear screams, and see a kid down in the street. Holy shit! What have I done....? I'm numb with fear.

I pull off to the side street and by this time the girl was able to get back up on her feet and get over to the sidewalk. I had an ANGEL of a witness who saw the incident and told me the little girl was not mindful of the traffic and she DID walk into my passing vehicle. I kissed the little girl's (Madison) head and all I could do was rub her back. Her two legs were scratched up pretty good, but not bleeding. Here comes the police, ambulance, principal, EVERYONE.

I give the officer my driver's license, etc. with a sickening feeling that I am in BIG, lousy trouble. Madison's Mom is there now, rightfully distraught. My ANGEL witness explains to the police and school principal exactly what she saw...a kid walking in the street and into a moving vehicle! The ambulance comes and Madison's legs are not broken, thank goodness. After she calms down she is up on her feet and walking. No doubt she will have two very bruised legs today.

Anyways, to make a long story short, I was NOT citated or charged!! Madison was not mindful of where she was walking and accidentally hit my car. Her Mom was very nice and understood her daughter was not properly crossing the street. This of course is good news for me but does not take away my care and concern. I will call on her family to make sure Madison is ok today. I will also cover my ass and call my auto insurance to explain the copy of the police report. I don't need any more DRAMA than what I'm dealing with already!!

Have a safe and well Thursday!!!!
