Where the Wild things are - reveiw.

12:02 Mar 08 2010
Times Read: 541

Where the Wild Things are was the third most boring film I have ever seen. About twenty minutes towards the end of this movie I laugh so hard I nearly cried only because I realised that nothing was actually going to happen.

Here is a brief summary of what happened in this movie.

Kid is a git

Kid runs away from home

Kid meets some monsters.

Kid is still a git.

Monsters are also gits.

Kid realised actually maybe he should not be a git.

Kid leaves and goes back home.

Kid eats chocolate cake.

And you know what really irritated me?

THE KID NEVER APPOLOGISED TO HIS MOTHER FOR BEING SUCH A COLLOSAL F**KING C***!!!

It’s just “oh son thank god you are home safely, here have some cake!” THE END.

WTF!! I have talked to people and they said that that’s what the book is like, and my only response is if that is what the book is like then this film should never have been made!! The kid was a twat, the so-called plot was nonexistent, the monsters although well designed were boring, and creepy, and did I mention the kid was a twat? Really, a lead with no redeemable features? ...what the hell were they thinking?

I would only recommend people I hated to see this film.

0 out of 5.

Tinman review

A quirky offering from the sci-fi channel Tinman is a retelling of the classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. It’s not all in all a terrible retelling of the story, there are a lot of very clever intelligent links to the original story. However, told in the miniseries format this story has in my opinion suffered greatly. Originally proposed as a longer series that was reduced to a miniseries, I believe that this project would have actually suffered less in a tv movie form.

As a film this story could have been a quick and quirky story, granted with limited character development, but it would have been fun, and short, leaving the audience with a sweet taste in their months. As a long series the characters could have been better explored, the story could have been properly set out, and most importantly it would have made sense. More could have happened that would have allowed the audience to build a relationship with the character. As a miniseries instead you have a short random assortment of events, that do not really lead into one another, no character is properly developed, and you cannot give yourself over to actually liking any one character fully. So much of the plot seems as though it was simply added for padding because they were either stuck for ideas, or so much of what they wanted to do would have taken too long so they had to whittle each idea down so far that there was no point at all in it being there.

The costumes are amazing, and many of the sets are fantastic. And as a re-telling of a classic it certainly gives an interesting new take on an old idea; however Tinman is a rather disappointing watch in its own right. Watch it if you enjoy the Wizard of oz, if not, you should probably give this one a wide birth.
