First off let me just stat for the record that this is in fact not a "vampire movie", instead it’s a film about a man who slowly losses his mind and thinks he is a vampire.
Made in 1988 "starring" Nicolas Cage
I would not say this is a great movie, I would not even say that it is a good movie, and in fact my first thought after watching it for the first time was that I should just throw the dvd out.
However after think about the film during the course of the day it made me smile. There are some really funny moments in it, as well as some really quite awkward moments. Its essentially about a man who has little to show for his live other than a job, and so we join him after yet another one night stand, this one is different however, she is a vampire...at least in his head she is. In fact there is no vamp, or no woman even, just him hallucinating, and so the viewer is forced to sit through just over one and a half very uncomfortable minuets watching a man spiralling into insanity.
There are a few very funny moments, for example when he goes to buy some fake fangs and ends up with three dollar plastic teeth, or when he’s desperately trying to catch a pigeon, however the film is made almost unwatchable by the incredible awful accent that Nicolas Cage (who plays the protagonist) is putting on...it sounds like a cross between Canadian and English, and is really hard to listen to.
All in all if you have some time to kill and you really can’t think of anything else to do its worth watching, otherwise give it a miss.
Two out of five.
