Ryven sat on a high rocky outcropping overlooking the magnificently created world before her. It was their world, an Astrally crafted get away for her and her love, Challen. She pulled her legs up, so she could rest her chin on her knees, and looked out over the landscape. Mountain, waterfall, meadow, forest, flora and fauna; there was no specific name for this place, it was simply "home" to them. The two lovers spent many a happy hour there, talking, forming plans, making love anywhere the feeling struck them.
They had been together seeming since the beginning of time; thier love felt so right from the start. They had been together in one form or another in all of their lives. An Eternity. But now, she thought, now was the end. Fate had seen to it that they would never have the happiness they wanted.
Today meant the destruction of this place. It was the last place they shard, and she felt that they should obliterate it together. A last symbolic gesture to assure their parting. She wished she could be sad, but instead she was filled with this bitter empty feeling. She sighed as she felt a presence behind her...Challen. She didn't even bother to turn her head as he spoke her name. "Ryven. You wanted to see me?" He asked, his voice winding its way through her head and hitting her heart, but bouncing off of the black wall there. She stood, still keeping her back to him, a thousand memories running through her. "Yes Challen. Thank you for meeting me so promptly. We have some things to discuss, and you know we have to do this." "Let us go down to the Meadow, then," he said, eyeing the sheer dropoff of the cliff. She turned, finally, and with emerald eyes flashing she waved her hand, conjuring a simple house like structure behind him. "I'd rather stay up high, for now." She said, walking past him toward the hut. He smiled, a bit sadly, and followed her. Once inside he summoned up two chairs and a table. They sat across from each other, and it was Ryven who began to speak frist. "Challen..." she stopped, her eyes filling with tears. She wiped her hands across her eyes, pushing them back as well as she could. She breathed in and looked up into his beautiful brown eyes and let her breath out slowly. He frowned slighly; he hated it when she cried, it made him want to take her into his arms and hold her tight. But now...he knew that wasnt what either one of them could handle. He loved her, he always would, but their lives had pushed them in different directions, away from each other. She began again. "Challen, I wanted to say that I'm sorry. I'm sorry that things got so messed up between us, and..." He shushed her before she got the chance to finish. "We're both at fault, Ryven. At some point other things began to become more important to us, and we let that come between us. We were growing, but in different directions." She nodded; he always had a way to say what they were both feeling. "We tried to fix it, didn't we Challen?" she asked, smliling a sad smile. "We tried, and nothing worked. All of our attempts to 'make it better' only succeeded in driving us farther apart." "Ryven, we've had this conversation as Mortals. This is about here." She nodded, smiling again. "Then there is nothing to say. We should get on with things." He nodded and stood up, extending his hand to her. She took it and they walked out of the house to the edge of the cliff. They raised their hands to the sky, and began to speak as one:
"What once was, Shall now never be"
They watched as an earthquake shook the mountains, the glassine waterfall and pond, the meadows and forest, flora and fauna, and broke into a million peices before them, leaving them in blackness. She turned to him and kissed him on the cheek, knowing that she would never see him again, in this life or any others. He hugged her close, memorizing her scent and the feel if her in his arms. He would never forget her, and would long for her always, as would she.
Ryven landed with a thump back into her mortal body. She could never get used to that feeling, but now it would be a rarity for her to expierence it again.
I did the one thing I promised you I would never ever do....
I let my fears drive you away.
The night you begged me to come to you I pushed you off, citing my excuses and my reasons why not, instead of running straight to your arms. And i've lost you because of it. And oh i've gotten what I deserve for it, your coldness and silence is my well earned reward. No one has to say what is true, that i'm cold and will never let myself love anyone, because I'm afraid to get hurt. I would rather hurt you before you can hurt me. A power trip in my own warped mind. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. For everything. I do love you.....weither you know it or not.
