My mother is 84 today. She has Alzheimer's disease. Every day she gets more and more confused and forgetful. One of these days she won't even remember who I am. My heart breaks every time I'm reminded of what she's going through, and what she's yet to go through. I love my mother, and I can't do anything to stop what's happening to her.
Being petty and vengeful and quick to hate are all wastes of time and energy, and are not conducive to peace or happiness... just the opposite, in fact.
Cherish those you love and who love you, and appreciate all the positives in your life, no matter how insignificant they may seem.

My grandfather is going through the same thing. I was parental kidnapped from my mother by my father so I didn't grow up knowing her or my grandfather. Sometimes when he asks who I am and I tell him he gets angry because he thinks I'm lying to him.
"My little Rai Rai is only 5 years old young lady and we don't even know where she is!"
