Chapter One- Pied Piper

She could hear steps behind her, but didn't dare turn around. She felt a small thrill shiver through her as she turned down the next street and realized there were no streetlamps to light her way. She pulled her thin jacket tightly around her against the wind. She quickened her pace slightly.

Behind her, keeping to the shadows, was a tall man. He wore a trench coat and boots and had shoulder length black hair. He followed the girl with vague curiosity. He'd seen her walking through the park, and something about her struck him.

She was young, it seemed, with a childish face and long reddish brown hair with a shock of purple through the front. She looked no older than 15, yet she'd paused under a lamp in the park to light a cigarette and he caught a glint, apparently an eyebrow piercing. As he looked her over, he also saw a tattoo on her calf, an angel of some sort. She'd continued walking, skirt swaying slightly, and he stepped away from the tree he'd been leaning against, and without knowing why, followed her, staying in shadow.

She turned into the cemetery. She'd always liked this one, with its strange faced statues and old, broken gravestones. She paused at the entrance, to pluck a flower growing in the weeds, then continued on, into the heart of the graveyard.

He was lost. He wasn't sure where he was, wasn't sure why he was following this girl. He searched his own mind, trying to find his intentions, and found nothing. He could hear her humming softly, just ahead of him.

She reached her destination, a small grave deep in the cemetery, a young girl of about 12. The name on the grave was Angel, but that wasn't right. She smoothed her skirt down as she sat on the grave, carefully setting the flower in front of her.

He paused, hesitant to walk on, to go any closer. The girl has stopped on a grave, ON a grave, and was almost facing him, what looked like a sad smile on her face. Behind him, he heard what sounded like a child's laughter. He shook his head. He was just hearing things.
