A New Year, A New You!

16:46 Jan 08 2017
Times Read: 205

With the New Year comes new opportunities and decisions. A renewal of life, of dreams, of goals and wishes. A promise of tomorrow and of a new chance at change. With our wedding and other engagements out of the way, we have decided to focus on two other important factors this year. Our physical and spiritual well-being.

With his annual physical at the VA, Rob was told by his doctor that he absolutely had to lose weight and start eating healthier. Therefore, we threw out all the junk food in the house (Okay, most of the junk food….baby steps) and we replaced them with healthier options such as Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, blocks of different types of cheeses for snacking, fruits and veggies. In addition, he cannot have beef, pork or shellfish. We opt for chicken and turkey mostly for our meats. We have even stopped buying processed “ready-to-cook” meals. Within the past month of this transition, we are both already starting to feel better. The next step is exercising. Given certain limitations due to scoliosis of my spinal cord, we can still do certain activities together, such as walking, elliptical machines, and biking. School is just starting back up and he still does not have all of his classes set up yet (he teaches IT at the local college). Also, Rob got another job as head of the IT department for a local organization that takes up a good deal of his time. However, is keeping him very busy and very active, which seems to be helping in his overall health. As for me, my seasonal work has ended and I am working on going back to school as well. This is yet another goal for the year. I should be able to attend in the autumn and finally finish my degree, whereby I can begin my career as a history teacher.

The next point in our plan is our spiritual needs. Rob and I (as well as many of our friends) are Pagans. Many years ago, we both ran in the same circles, but somehow never met. With that said, we have decided to “put the band back together”, so to speak. Several of our friends have wanted to do this for quite some time. In addition, with the group we already have established and the safe haven community for alternatives, goths and pagans we created last year, we have even more to add to our circle. Once the weather is warmer and we can actually hold circles and ceremonies outside (which is much safer as that fire is involved) and can work on making ourselves stronger spiritually. 2016 had a lot of negative mojo for many of us. However, we insist of leaving all that negativity in 2016 and making 2017 our best year yet. Anyone who wants to join us is more than welcome. There are no judgements, no drama, and no negativity. That is the best way to gain the best experience.

Peace, love and harmony with all.
