is weeping inconsolably when Randy Quaid dies at the end of Independence Day.
What would I tell myself?
It's okay to not be like your mom, but let her know that you love her and remind her that she loves you, too.
It's true that we gravitate toward that which we fear. Maybe because we keep the fear real, tangible, in front of us, it becomes a propecy fulfilled. So, no matter how successful you become, the kernel of anger and shame associated with her will haunt you, etch your character like oxide on steel.
Her own shame will mar her ability to love w/o constant watering. Her scars are so deep, even then it might not be enough. Mother, mother, mother needs to echo in her heart and mind. You won't understand that now, but it was meant to be her life. It's all she said she wanted.
What would you tell your 8-year-old self?
Not that anyone on VR needs help in this area. Just saying
