I had my nephews’ wedding last weekend, my brother is a strict Lubavitch chassid, so it’s natural that all seven of his kids should fall in line. It was a great affair and we had to persuade my brother to let the affair go ahead as the norm would be that we shouldn’t have a celebration within a year of our father’s death. Because he lives in Israel and everything was booked we decided to go ahead but we (us three brothers) just kept a lower profile.
I was glad the chuppah and the reception was in England as will be their home, the bride is English and wanted to have her friends around for her big day, so lucky me.
He was so nervous it was untrue, but understandably so!

My happy brother was also nervous, here he stands proudly with his wife and the groom (his son). This was taken later that evening when they had changed and all was calmer.
I had to add this photo as this is a picture of the groom and his brother holding the latest addition to our family, this will guarantee another generation of our families name going on. Incidentally, his wife is expecting another (only been married 30 months)

Muriel’s Wedding

Muriel’s Wedding, who'd have thought it? I know these are not the typical ‘guy films’, but ‘chick flicks I seem to be catching up on at the moment but I don’t care! Also it’s all about Abba as well with me, or so it seems. I don’t remember being a huge Abba fan when they were around but I guess they have grown on me to a state where I can call them one of the all time greats.
Anyway. Not only did I sit through and watch it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That poor South African swimmer, he just looked terrified when she came down the aisle. Great acting expression. To be honest I didn’t know what to expect and had my evenings viewing set with reminders from other films that I could switch to if I found this one crap. But I didn’t. I Loved it.
Such a broad range of subjects that was touched on. It turned out to be a very reflective film that used humour as its guide. The Australian market in films has always been a bit ‘hit and miss’ for me but this one is recommended.
..and I get to add yet another Abba song to this entry :-)

Mamma Mia

I finally got around to watching Mamma Mia (the film) over the holidays. It was a film that brought together an awful lot of my favourite actors and actresses. The film was crap but to see the cast enjoy themselves as they croaked and destroyed a host of Abba hits was simply a joy. I of course joined in as tone deaf as I am much to my daughters’ horror. I’ve always been a fan of Abba and have probably been listening/dancing/humming to their songs before a lot of you even learnt to walk. The film left me melancholy and I may have shed the odd tear as I remembered what I considered were the good old days.
I now have tickets for the west end show of the same name.
