I cannot believe people thought it was based on some real case. It tells you in the credits it isn't remotely based on anything. All the filmmaker did was look at information on the general topic. He filmed it entirely in one week with a budget of $15,000. He interviewed quite a number of people and picked the two main actors because they seem to gel. He stated they were like they had always been friends and the guy, Micah which is his real name had cameraman experience.
The whole thing was unscripted just like Blair Witch. He did a good job considering it was filmed in his own home. I guess he did some addtions in his house for things he wanted to show in the film, like the way the staircase looked.
This movie was actually finished a few years ago and has been shown at film festivals and around. It has had three endings. I saw the original as I mentioned in another post but two of my daughters saw the theatrical ending since they went to the theater and I watched it online. Then he had another ending he showed only once. This film circulated awhile and Steven Spielberg got ahold of it and that is how it ended up in the theaters over time. When screeing it people walked out of the theater. At first they thought they didn't like it but found out that they were either too scared or totally creeped out. IT IS ALL FICTION FOLKS, lol. None of it is based on anything at all. It was all made up...just a story. It was ok but for me nothing to write home about.
I hope this doesn't disappoint me like so many other movies I have watched. This looks to be absolutely awesome.
