I forgot to put the end of Chapter Two of the story I posted. I must have gotten side tracked. Around here that isn't something unusual, lol. It's morning again and I didn't notice it until now. I don't think it will make much difference really although all the characters, at least leaving from the place in my story, are together now. They weren't where I left off. Memory is weak these days, lol. I added it in.
So I put the beginning of something I'm writing into that section of my journal. For some reason the coloring of the white on black is easier for me to read than black on white. I've been fixing obvious errors and trying to clarify who is an is not speaking. The he said, she said thing isn't supposed to be proper to use now in the writing field along with a long list of other things. The use of was is supposed to be limited and that, feel, felt, seem, any adverbs and a long list of annoying things that editors have deemed shouldn't be used or used sparingly. Drives me crazy. One editor I know of doesn't like the word grab. Another hates when someone makes a character sigh. Then there are the cliches and that can be storyline type or phrases and what gets me is some of the phrases considered cliche make no sense and most would never suspect. You have to look at how often you repeat a specific word unless it's needed to make the context explainable. Writing isn't easy, not if one plans to sell it which I do not. I've always written for fun. I would have a hard time unless I self published. It's a fact publishers don't like to take on books by females or older people. There are many out there but some started by self publishing and they were later picked up by a mainstream publisher. Many get published but that doesn't guarantee the book will sell unfortunately. I don't know why some books are well liked and others not. The public is fickle. Then there are the reviewers and its like movie reviews as well. Some give glowing reviews and others scathing to the point you almost could believe they were doing it just for the sheer pleasure of making the author feel lousy. They've done it to Anne Rice and she has writing degrees. She experienced the same things most writers do when they send in their pages for publishing. Rejection after rejection. I bet some editors that rejected her are kicking themselves when they became wildly popular. There are a number of books that have had this scenario. Editors are jaded and that's the problem. (IMO)
