Chapter Five: Bonding sticks

It had rained for two days and nights, turning the floor of the scrapyard into a veritable quagmire.
But no-one minded.

They had found solace from work and Geoff's father, who did not bother them, believing as he did that still there were obstacles for the brilliant young woman to overcome.

So they enjoyed a second late rise that third day, that had been spoiled somewhat, by a knock on the caravan door.

Geoff pulled aside a net and looked out a window, “It's Creavey.” The lad had seemed more than a little apprehensive as he spoke, conscious of the man's importance to his father.

“Am surprised to the little weasel hasn't already come in,” Mikhail muttered, having quickly decided that the little man would manipulate Sparks and them, if he could...

“He's scared of The Rattler,” Geoff explained, then put his hands over his mouth, realising immediately how much trouble he might be in with Heather, for saying as he had.

Yet although she scowled, that was all. There were no words of admonishment for the young man.
Finally she had smiled to him and said, “Well I'll slither over to the door and answer it...”
She ruffled his hair as he blushed, watching her gather a sheet around her lithe naked body.

All three were tired and in need of a rest, but Creavey brought minds back to reality, when he told Heather, “I've kept my employer appraised of your achievements. He is aware the ship is ready to launch and wants a date for the media...”

She had shaken her lustrous red hair, smiling at the little man's embarrassment, as he tried not to stare at her bare shoulders and failed...

“Yes, I got a bit of a tan a few weeks ago,” she teased, “it's nice of you to notice...”

His Adams apple bopped up and down as he swallowed, before looking to his toes.
“Yes, very nice,” he conceded.

Still he looked to his the tip of his mud-splattered shoes as he said, “A date?”

Heather smiled, a sight Creavey could hardly register, as he lifted his gaze to hers.
“How about this Saturday coming?” She asked blithely. “Is that alright?”

He had nodded, turned and walked away quickly.

The speed of his departure meant that he did not hear the door shut, or the laughter that had soon followed on from it being locked once again.

The holiday would soon be over; but there were still two days to go and a lot to accomplish in that time: “That can only mean one thing,” Heather explained, dropping the duvet. “We need to get some more bed rest..”

Mikhail grinned, “Rest?”
