Mr. Fixit and 'Monsters'

15:49 Nov 30 2010
Times Read: 828

Sunday morning I gave my Father a 5.1 pixel camera I’d acquired, with rusted battery terminals that ensured it didn’t work and, the powerpack to the Mac laptop, that sparked just before my face and, I’ll admit, he is still Mr. Fixit, when he chooses to be, as within the hour, he got both going for me.

Later I called on Karl, who had my HP laptop working for me and my favourite TV shows… and I even got home, in time for tea, for a change; with a copy of the film ‘Monsters’ inside the laptop.

Taken from a Vertigo comic, the adult strand of DC Comics, the film is big, with wonderful small storylines within and, some spectacular effects. All in all, it’s the film that it’s supposed to be and for me, more than that; definitely recommended.

I woke with a smile and no pain in my knees, after finishing a letter to a friend in Scotland and, having acquired my coffee I had helped Dad with the washing.

And after Friday, I knew I shouldn’t tempt fate [[or, arthritis]] so, at 10:15 I rose, to face the day, the blue sky and sun … and frost, putting some fresh water on that which I saw was frozen earlier in the birdbath, as the Blackbird looked decidedly cheesed-off… And then I went travelling, on the train and bus; to Wallasey and a few friends I haven’t seen for a Lifetime. After tea and a rest, I watched ‘Vipers’, an old-fashioned sort of film, mutated snakes, attacking a small island town; an I prepped a tape, to record the excellent ‘Night Of The Demon’. Now that, I haven’t seen for a small aeon; and man, I am so looking forward to hearing them runes read.

...a sock an sore knees.

00:15 Nov 27 2010
Times Read: 857

I watched ‘Stargate’ in the evening, two really good episodes, as I sat darning a sock. The episode was that good that I sat cross-legged on my bed entranced by the story. The problem began when I stood. My knees ached badstyle, so that I was walking as if I were totally screwed, which for awhile, I was. I take diclofenic for my muscles and painkillers in the morning and, no painkillers in the evening. I could take them, I realise, but I take so many meds anyway.

As it was, I took some diclofenic and, by bedtime pain had eased off enough for me to relax somewhat…

anything to stay awake

16:41 Nov 25 2010
Times Read: 886

Thursday morning I woke after a very restless night. I’d had to be up at the doctors for the flu-jab and some blood taken, as I’m assured the last lot taken got damaged during processing.

I was up and dressed by 9:30 having made some beds and prepared the back rooms, for Dad hovering, then toddled off to the doctors, on a rather pleasant day.

After the doctors I went home and, ate a banana, then began tidying my room, while watching episodes of the X-Files; anything to stay awake, so I could go to voluntary work, with a working brain; I just couldn’t afford to rest, as to do so meant I’d sleep.

And I’d have so much to do at the project: I knew it.

no bits inside...

00:21 Nov 25 2010
Times Read: 888

For weeks, nay months, my Dad’s being going on about the poor paving outside our home. Well, when the fellow came to check the job, in his smart suit, he had ummed and ahhed, with scant knowledge of the job itself, as my Father had assured me; he’d even offered him the use of a level. Then this Wednesday, as I opened the curtains, to look out at the heavy frost, I saw three or four workers doing the job. Needless to say, they were just doing two of the four flags that needed attending to.

But, it had delayed our trip Wednesday trip to Ellesmere Port, which has so far been put off, for one reason or another, for three weeks.

Yet, we had gone out and, taken the old Compaq to the tip at Spital, before taking the motorway to Ellesmere Port. As I took the Compaq out of the car, I asked where to put it and was asked, “Does it have anything inside?” I had laughed in response, then told him, “I used to be in the trade, so there’s no ‘bits’ inside.”

Skyline and The Full-Moon

00:31 Nov 23 2010
Times Read: 897

Karl had ensured that come Sunday, I would be at his early, to get taken to the flicks. Needless to say, there was a Full-Moon and, every little thing that could have gone wrong on the journey did go wrong and, I got to his with just enough time for him to put a few shows to usb for me, before we had to leave in time for the film.

I'd heard a lot said and read a lot, about 'Skline' and, little of it was good.

Well, I had enjoyed all that I saw of the film, but then I like alien invasion films; and there wasa prjector malfunction: and, I'd got to see all of the film, bar the last twenty minutes, or so.

On my way to the station, later, Karl and I had run into my friends Pete and Vicky. And, though Peter has an opinion on most things, as I do, we don't always agree on the films that we see.

'Skyline', is one of those films. It's not the film I read of and, I enjoyed all I saw of it.

… innit?

00:41 Nov 20 2010

Just before I left for the project I had been turned the computer on. It got as far as looking for the IDE devices and, no further. The D: drive wasn’t working. That was the ps2 port, which I’d expected and, the drive, which I’d not been too surprised at. So with my hands behind my back, I’d just stood there, annoyed and frustrated; and more than a little determined, determined to do something. And, it was warm enough, to use my fingers properly, so I had. I had taken the top, then sides off and, done what for me had been previously unthinkable, I swapped the old D: drive, for one that worked.

After it had successfully started up, I had looked at ‘my work’ with the biggest of grins possible… The evening was a good busy one and I finished the night on VR, still in a good mood.

Friday morning was enlivened by the bright sun on not so warm day, that almost blinded Dad, as he turned into he car park, as he went to the bank. And, what tickled me, was the face on this toddler in it’s Mum’s trolley, encountering the big yellow bear, with the polka-dotted bandage over one eye: it was entranced by Pudsey, on Children In Need Day… Heck, I even through some spare change in a bucket, on my way out of the roundabout doors… And, it was so bright again, that Dad walked to the wrong small red car, being suspicious when he saw the rain drops on it.

Later, still the mood I was on Thursday, I went travelling, as I needed gloves and, there’s only so many times you can mend a pair… innit?

The weather is getting to my joints badstyle, but I’ve already gotten used to the fact that as I get older, that’s going to happen. And yes, I get real lonely at times, but I’m real thankful to have some major headaches out of my life, while living this new routine that I have with my Dad, that’s a kind of compromise between my Mum’s way and our adaptations to them; and, I’m still waiting on an interview with a government sponsored college outreach programme, to acquire a few qualifications that I want. Meanwhile, jobsearch progresses slowly, as it’s difficult to maintain that enthusiasm, when every enquiry seems to indicate that you can’t go any further, for one reason, or another. Yet, that said, my writing, the gardening, my walks and, my voluntary work, mean that my time is full.

I Called at Karl’s on Sunday to edit his thesis for him, after using my annoyance with Michael as an excuse togo travelling and call on Andy in Wallasey, who’d finally got a job. I had enjoyed the travelling.

Karl did have a USB mouse for me to use, which came in useful, of course, as I had finished putting on the machine what I need: it’s only disadvantages are it’s dicky CD drive, [[the Master]] and a DVD drive that’s better with CD’s.

Although, that said, it hasn’t cost me anything and, I have a computer again. And with the external writer, I have what I need. What more could I want?

I hadn’t been able to help pacing, as I waited for my ‘new’ computer to arrive. When it did, boy-it was dusty, so after a hovering, the fellow who dropped it off helped me fit a couple of things to it, before visiting Raby Mere with me at Twilight, where we met a fellow cleaning the overflow of leaves and wood, who had been a marine {based covertly in London} then later a policeman; such are the interesting people, I'm lucky enough to meet.

Later, I sat loading windows onto my 'new' tower, as I typed, my emails and went onto VR.

Unfortunately, as the installation progressed, I found it no longer recognized either ps2 port and, all I had were ps2 Mice, which obviously wouldn’t work…

...finding consolation

00:17 Nov 14 2010
Times Read: 960

I did manage to find consolation for the annoyances of the Wednesday and Thursday though: albeit, they were of a personal, rather than material interest.

My Father had helped me, by being my hands, as we took off the HP laptops back, to see if there was a physical reason why it would not see the harddrive, which had entailed him taking basic instruction from me. And, considering how I have sought a way of making a connection with him over the years, it was a really helpful situation for me.

That said, nothing we’d done had worked and, I’m thankful that I still have the old Dell, with which to connect to the Internet.

As I’d left home, the wind had been biting and, not for the first time, I was reminded that I’m grateful notto be needing the meals that I serve.

So, even though the past few days had been annoying in the extreme, I can still see flashes of light in the dark.

Yet, it had been a Thursday and, no matter what the weather, I had the project to go to: a place where I’m needed. And, I do like to feel needed.

Well, the sky was clear and though the sky had promised rain, the wind had kept it away, a wind that got stronger and stronger throughout the night. Thankfully, I’d dressed well for it and, with my headphones plugged into my ears and, Heart playing on the Walkman, I hadn’t minded the journey, too much.

When I got there, young Jonathan had problems with the filling for the sandwiches; even with both ends of the large tin open. So, with much laughter after the event, I fisted a tin of Pork Luncheon meat, to ease it ou, to plate and slice

He is the fellow who sai “yes’, when I somewhat jokingly asked “Does anyone have an old PC to spare?” And, even when I’d explained the specs of what I needed, Jon had seemed to think that he was able to oblige with his kind offer. [[Perhaps because my needs aren’t too great!?!]]

Once home I ate, then as the wind had grown to gale force outside, I was reminded just how slow the old Dell actually is, when it’s hooked up to the net. I was able to send some emails [[as it decided to update, again]] and so, there’d been no VR for me, that night.

Though that said, who am I to complain: I could connect to the net; I could download and, I still had the Mac I was sent, to site and write in my room.

my birthday wish

13:06 Nov 10 2010
Times Read: 981

A lady was good enough to hope that I got my birthday wish. And I had responded that should be easy, I have none. The only thing I might want, I cannot have.

And, that’s my Mum.

The young lady visiting her Mother over the road had just got a red car, like my Dad’s and reversed down the drive, which she my Mum. Then, when Dad didn’t come in, she went to look for him. Not seeing him around, she had gone to open the garage and look there and that’s when my eighty two year old Mum fell and broke her wrist and, lay there until dad found her. She had gone to Arrowe Park Hospital and, while the drunks and the skunks got seen to, she had waited, twenty-six hours, to be seen to by a doctor, being moved from one ward to another, in the process.

And, she got pneumonia, then a heart attack and less than ten days later, was dead.

If I could have a wish, a birthday wish, it’d be to hold ‘my little Mum’ again.

That’s all… that’d be my birthday wish.

After my night of pissed-offness, with someone who put their habits [[weed, which I also enjoy]],above friendship I awoke feeling calmer about the whole thing: and, a trip to the dole was not unwelcome. As it was, I had asked about training, so ended up with an appointment at 10:00 a.m. the morning of my birthday, which I try to celebrate like some people celebrate Christmas, or Hanukah, or New Years. I got home, to find my Dad indecisive about tea, due to the time, so I whipped up a tasty Bolognese with cheese pasta, like asap. After tea, I made a small film while darning a sock and watching the second to last episode of ‘Burn Notice’ series four. And, as I’d sat down to type, dear ‘ol Michael Western was peering over my shoulder, saying,

After Friday night ...

23:50 Nov 07 2010
Times Read: 1,007

After Friday night I slept very well, too well in fact. And, I was still tired throughout much of Saturday.

Anyway, come nine thirty I was awake, to a blue-sky Sunday and, as I woke and listened to the silence of the morn, I thought back and recalled other mornings after listening to fireworks going off through the night, a lot of years ago: and Ian and I would run out into the back, then front garden, to see what had landed during the night before.

And, as I typed away, Dad burst into my room, asking me what I’d done with the house keys, as he couldn’t find the main set. As I could see my own set from where I sat, I hadn’t been too amused, yet still he went on, saying the loss was down to my careless ways.

So, I’d bounced out of my bed and, then began to rummage, only to hear my Dad say after a few minutes, “I found them. You hid them in my pocket.”

When I asked if that was his idea of an apology, he just reminded me I shouldn’t put his keys away, in his pocket.

Although there was rain and sun, then rain again, my Father got the washing done, while I wrote and made the odd film, or two.

The rockets were still going off at quarter past eleven: And, I’m guessing that the sixth of November was greater for fireworks than the fifth, as it had rained so hard that night.

Come to that, I seem to recall that it rained almost every November the fifth as a child. I recall easily, the one big display I went to with my parents and Ian, my brother. She had worn a tight perm and a brown dress and, a quilted coat and held my hand tight, as she rockets had flown high and exploded and Ian’s eyes had opened wide with wonder, as he watched the falling droplets of lights.

And the bangs went well on, much as they did then, as I logged onto Yahoo and then later VR.

Mike and I watched the second half of ‘Inception’, And that film, is truly another ‘Matirix’; it’s brilliant. Anyway, after he went I continued my search for the Sarah Jane adventures 4:05 & 4:06 and, as it transpires, the story ‘The Death of the Doctor’, is well worth seeing… and not just for the Doctor I recall, but Tennant and Smith and yeah, it’s good. And Jo Grants hugs Sarah Jane! That was so well-cool!

Needless to say, they’re now suitably acquired and on disc.
