I have few friends, so value those I have highly. So, when Mandy phoned me one evening, to invite me to one of her parties for Halloween, I had been stoked. But, the invite had presented me with a dilemma. She’d invited me to a costume party and that had left me with a problem and, an age old question, “I don’t know what to what – and, I have nothing to wear.” Well, obstreperous I can be at times, but I can seek and appreciate good advice, at times. So I phoned Peter, Vicky’s fella, to ask for advice. Now I met her at art college, where she nicked my cheese sandwich, then got in my good books, when she’d told me that my little Mother made the best cheese ‘n onion on wholemeal bread, she’d ever tasted: and needless to say, through her I’d met Pete, who like me appreciates a good story, good comics an also like me, has an eclectic knowledge of films. ‘Tween them, I have the best friend going. And, then there’s my friend Mandy, who Pete also knows and, knows more of me than most. ‘coz I’ve allowed it, as she was kind to me once and, I recall it well, even to this day. So when she asked me to a party, I had to go. Hence phoning Pete, to ask the question I had.
“Pete,” I’d explained, “I’ve been invited to Mandy’s party… and, I don’t know what to wear.” And, in response he told me, “Wear whatever you choose Neil. With the way you dress, you’re always in fancy dress anyway.”
