Rendezvous With A "Zombie"?

08:14 May 07 2007
Times Read: 712

It has been some time since last I made an entry here. I was trying to come up with something to write and finally it came to me whether I was ready or not.

Let me start by telling you that my wife and I put our house on the market and it sold a lot faster than what we had anticipated, leaving us "homeless" somewhat so we are currently living with my in-laws.

Now let me tell you a bit about my father-in-law. He is about fifty-five years old. He is a severe diabetic. He is 6'5" and well over four hundred pounds. He has had a bit of heart problems in the past. He hardly ever leaves the house because his feet and legs aren't in the best of shape and he tires very easily so he is afraid he may get out and fall which is a very logical fear for a man in his condition.

By now you have to be asking is there any point to this or am I just reading a bunch of pointless garbage written by a guy who just wants to pour out every drop of detail about his personal life. Well there is an interesting point to this and will all of this being said, let me show you where I am going with all this.

This morning at about 2:15 I was sitting here on the computer as always at this time. I was just browsing through the forums and getting into some of the sandbox entries and I heard a door open behind me. (Every one else in this household is normally in bed by at least 1am) I hear someone coming down the hall way and I glance back and fourth several times and never saw or heard anyone. Finally about ten minutes pass and my father-in-law comes walking down the hall way and I said casually, "You still awake?" He didn't answer. He started toward the door and I said, "John?" Still no response from him. Then beginning to get a little worried I changed my tone a bit, "John, what are you doing?!" He opened the door and headed out. As big as he is and fearing he may fall, I went to get my brother-in-law out of bed to come and help me get him back in. By the time we got to him, he was reaching the end of the driveway and he started down the street. My brother-in-law started saying, "Dad....Dad!" And gently rubbing his shoulder. We got him turned back around and headind back down the drive way. He stopped and started pointing upward toward the sky and his jaw dropped as if he were in awe over something. My bro-in-law asked him what he was pointing at and he started crying. He didn't say a word, he just kept crying and pointing up at the stars. Keep in mind he was still asleep. Finally we managed to get him awake and he asked where he was. When he realized that he had been sleepwalking he was immediately apologetic and said he was so embarassed. We asked him what his dream was about and he acted like he was holding something back and didn't want to tell us.

This man walked faster and with more ease than I have seen him do in the ten years I have known him. He didn't even get out of breath. This was so wild and I have to admitt I was shaking a little when we got back inside and all was over.
