Or, in plain English, the fear of friday thirteenth...
Why is it, that there is still a great percentage of people believing friday 13th is jinxed? Stock markets go down, accident rates go down because people seem to stay indoors...
In my opinion another good joke invented in medievel times to suppress and intimidate.
There seems to be no writing at all about this day previously anyway...
So what makes people fear this specific day...
Starting with the number 13 itself, there are several reasons, most of them to do with religion (suprisingly...).
Judas, being the 13th disciple to take place at the 'last supper' table, satan being the 13th angel, Loki being the 13th god...
Or the ancient persians perception that the twelve constellations in the Zodiac controlled the months of the year, and each ruled the earth for a thousand years at the end of which the sky and earth collapsed in chaos. Therefore, the thirteenth is identified with chaos...
Which is the only one I can identify with, but then, it only occurs every 1000 years or so and what the *bleep* does is have to do wirh friday?
Friday to me seems the best day of the week, since it announces the start of the weekend.
There are some maritime superstitions about this day, though I haven't been able to find out exactly what they are...
This is all I can come with, and yet, many buildings don't have a thirteenth floor, hotels don't have a room number thirteen, whole communities stay indoors, and even the financial world suffers from a badly sustained superstition...
Is it not about time we start to think for ourselves instead of following the heard?
