Blóðbylgje

18:00 Jun 08 2021
Times Read: 362

Some people may incorrectly assume that Blóðbylgje is the name of one of the daughters of Ægir and Rán, simply because "Blóðbylgje" means "Blood Wave", and the daughters of Ægir and Rán have names that are attributed to waves. Unless Blóðbylgje is an alternative name for one of them, I haven't heard of any daughter with that name. I honestly think that this word is a combo of the names of two daughters, Blóðughadda and Bylgja, but I'll have to ask Kati.

For your consideration, the daughters are:

Bára (or Drǫfn) - Foam Fleck, Comber
Blóðughadda - Bloody Hair
Bylgja - Billow
Dúfa - Pitching Wave
Hefring - Rising Wave
Himinglæva - Transparent Wave
Hrǫnn - Welling Wave
Kólga - Cool Wave
Unnr (or Uðr) - Frothing Wave

"You hope your family and you will be forever young
You are waiting for the mercy from the god of love
As the disintegration is against the law of the universe
Heart is boundless, yet in the blink of an eye it faces its end"

Most may not know what the title of this means. It is the Mongolian form of Om Mani Padme Hum, a powerful sanskrit/buddhist mantra associated with Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva (a being who chose to give up the opportunity to become a Buddha) of compassion:

My life is chaos. Not just because of the Military, but because of how I live my life, and for me, tomorrow is not promised. But in that chaos, it is easy to find my peace. Despite being only 1/4 Asian on my father's side, I embrace aspects of Buddhism, because I embrace aspects of every positive religion and spirituality. - Speak to me about the Tao sometime!

Om = the vibration or sound of the universe; represents divine energy and generosity and purifies the ego
Ma = represents ethics and purifies jealousy
Ni = represents patience and purifies want or desire
Pad = represents diligence and purifies ignorance and judgment
Me = represents concentration and purifies attachment
Hum = the unity of all; represents wisdom and purifies hatred

Perfect song for meditation.

Living in Hong Kong, at least in my part, there is much noise and chaos. Although in my life, I am well-used to such (being in the Military might help with that!) there comes a time that I need an escape.

So I either travel to Lhasa, if business takes me to the area, or Qinghai Lake for my meditations.

Here are two that I use, "What the Pipa Says" by Lin Hai (a Pipa is a type of stringed instrument) and "Qinghai Lake" by my beloved Daiqing Tana and the Haya Band.

A bonus one, also by Daiqing Tana, that I use when I wish to meditate on the mysteries of life and what lies yonder veil:

A Song about Love and Death.

04:53 Jun 08 2021
Times Read: 375

The two girls were once beloved friends until a man, Ivanko, came between them, as they both desired him. Deeming the other unworthy of his life, both girls privately plotted to murder the other with poisoned tea. It unfortunately works a bit too well, as, though the women (and Ivanko) are quite dead, they are cursed to repeat the same day for all eternity. This is but one of those days.

Oy, na hori karchata, a v dolyni divchata,
Sichy-rubay derevo, kudy hlyanesh, zeleno, karchata.

Desʹ uzyavsya Ivanko, Desʹ uzyavsya Ivanko,
Sichy-rubay derevo, kudy hlyanesh, zeleno, Ivanko.

Vsikh divchat vin rozihnav, lysh Mariyku sobi vzyav,
Sichy-rubay derevo, kudy hlyanesh, zeleno, sobi vzyav.

Poviv yiyi u sadok, narvav yiyi yahidok,
Sichy-rubay derevo, kudy hlyanesh, zeleno, yahidok.

Yizh, Mariyko, yahidky, zabuvaysya za divky,
Sichy-rubay derevo, kudy hlyanesh, zeleno, za divky.

The Runic Alphabet and Heilung.

04:47 Jun 08 2021
Times Read: 378

As a man who considers ancient history to be his Beloved Bride, I am always intrigued and interested whenever I find obscure music that incorporates things that a lot of similar artists might lack. I feel that, if such is your history, you must always appreciate and respect where you come from. How sad that so many seem to forget this.

Having been a fan of Heilung for a few years, I had the pleasure of chatting with Maria Franz, the female vocalist about history and runes and Scandinavian history. What a wonderful conversationalist!

When I had mentioned to her how much I wish that the Runic Alphabet was getting more exposure in modern society, she pointed me to one of her songs, and told me that I might find the lyrics fascinating.

The lyrics are basically the Elder Futhark in verse - Because each letter has a specific meaning, the meaning is described in the lyrics, dedicated to two lines. Here are the lyrics, it may be more clear.

"Fé vældr frænda róge;
fóðesk ulfr í skóge.
Úr er af illu jarne;
opt løypr ræinn á hjarne.
Þurs vældr kvinna kvillu;
kátr værðr fár af illu.
Óss er flæstra færða
för; en skalpr er sværða.
Ræið kvæða rossom væsta;
Reginn sló sværðet bæzta.
Kaun er barna bölvan;
böl gørver mánn fölvan.
Hagall er kaldastr korna;
Kristr skóp hæimenn forna.
Nauðr gerer næppa koste;
nøktan kælr í froste.

[Male voice]

Ís köllum brú bræiða;
blindan þarf at læiða.
Ár er gumna góðe;
get ek at örr var Fróðe.
Sól er landa ljóme;
lúti ek helgum dóme.
Týr er æinendr ása;
opt værðr smiðr at blása.

[Male voice]

Bjarkan er lavgrønstr líma;
Loki bar flærðar tíma.
Maðr er moldar auki;
mikil er græip á hauki.
Lögr er, er fællr ór fjalle
foss; en gull ero nosser.
Ýr er vetrgrønstr víða;
vant er, er brennr, at svíða."

As can be seen, the first letter of every second line starts with a letter of the Elder Futhark (the letters actually spell out Furthark)

Translation:

Wealth cause dispute among friends;
the wolf lives in the forest
Slag comes from bad iron
the reindeer often races over the frozen snow.
Giant causes women's sorrow;
few are cheerful from misfortune
River mouth is way of most journeys;
but the sheath is the one of swords
Riding, one says, is for horses the worst;
Regin forged the best sword
Ulcer is fatal for children;
death makes man pale
Hail is the coldest of grain;
Herjan shaped the world in olden times
Need leaves you little choice;
the naked freeze in the frost

[MALE VOICE]

Ice we call the broad bridge;
the blind man must be led
Good year is a blessing for men;
I say that Frodi was generous
Sun is light of the land
I bow before the holy
Tyr is one-handed among the Æsir;
often the smith must blow

[MALE VOICE]

Birch is the limb greenest with leaves;
Loki brought success of deceit
Man is increase of soil;
mighty is the hawk's claw
Water is what falls from the mountain;
but of gold are the jewels
Yew is the greenest tree in winter;
it often singes when it burns
