This thread is for people who want to wander around in the ports of call, and not take any shore excursions. If your looking for people to wander around with, Here is where you can get a jump on that.
Due to my recent surger, Jon, Crystal, Brett and myself will not be taking any shore excursions. But here is what we plan on doing for sure.
Nassau - I dont care. Maybe a cab to Atlantis, as Crystal, Brett, and Jon have never seen it.
St Thomas: Meagans Bay Beach, and Lunch at the Green House. Im contacting shoretrips to see about an organized trip JUST to meagans bay an the green house. Cabs are costly! And you pretty much need a cab when you get off the boat!
St Martin: A drink at delphines, and buying abysnthe. Delphines is near the water, and on a small shopping bazzar that is cheap as f**k! (Within walking distance of the ship)
Shoretrips did put a trip together for us for megans bay st thomas. Its at:
http://www.shoretrips.com/common/search4.asp?rcode=&lcode=&tcode=037083&grpcod=G071031002
So, It will include the taxi from the ship to Megans bay, park admission to megans bay, and the taxi from megans bay to the Green house. This really is the cheapest way to do it.
We have to get our own way back to the ship. However from the green house to the ship, the cab is UNDER 10.00 per person if we all go back together.
Us 4 will be doing this shore excursion.

I will check with the folks we are traveling with. We may join you, or meet up with you since we're not doing any shore excursions (not sure about the other couple though).
i signed up! looking forward to seeing people trashed. and tanned.
This video is evidence is what might happen to you if you wander around the carribean with .:Z:. and Jon . . . .

So if we buy absynthe there can we take it on the boat and home with us? Or do we have to drink it there? lol...
I do believe the boat will take it when you reboard till your final departure from the boat and then it is yours to take home but i may be wrong.
Yeah, I know that's the case w/ the duty free shop onboard the boat but wasn't sure of the policy w/ buying booze on an island
When I was in Curacao I bought some curacao and it was not at a duty free shop....But it was at the Curacao factory....
THey take your bottle when ya get back on the ship and you get it back the last night of the cruise
Duty free means you are not taxed on it when you bring it back into the USA.
All alcohol bought in the ports of call, is taken from you when you reboard the ship, and delivered to you on the last night of the cruise.

Video Evidence? I know noth-ink!
You know, we are going back to that port in 2009! muahahahaaaaaa
yeeeesss.. walk around with Jon and I.... Yeeeesss. ::insert evils laugh here and wringing of hands::
So the place to buy it is within walking distance of the ship? And we can bring it back with us? Cool!
that was my logic.
I had only planned on picking up a couple of bottles while I was there anyway.
Question:
i've never visited any of these islands before and was wondering about money. are US dollars accepted for cash payments?
even in these times the dollar is still mighty (and that from a BRIT!)
i wasnt sure if i would have to exchange for foreign currency or max out my credit cards ^.^'
so i can spend US dollars just fine without having to worry about exchange rates and such?
Yeah no problem normally, But BARTER HARD, hard cash such as dollar and sterling have two exchanges rates normally, the official and the street. So whatever the price says haggle, people love good strong cash compared to the local, if they aren't already using it!.
DHJ
all of the ports take US dollars. Do not exhange your cash.

We'll definitely wanna get off at every island and take pictures, so anyone that wishes to join us is welcome.
Since MamaC and Xerxes are on the hunt for absinthe we'll trek for that in St. Maarten, maybe we can haggle a bulk price :P
Hey there is a clothing optional beach in St. Maarten for the daring...LOL
I did some research on absinthe (i.e. read the Wikipedia article) and it does not deserve its reputation. The "Green Fairy" has no psychoactive ingredients and will not cause any hallucinations. It is just a bitter alcoholic beverage. Wikipedia warns, "Absinthe can be and occasionally is seized by United States Customs if it appears to be for human consumption and can be seized inside the US with a warrant."
