Comic Book Conundrums. I looked on another site that has plenty of forums on comics so I adopted and adapted a few. So Conundrum One.

What's to stop Superman from just puffing cold on Lex Luthor, or say flinging him into outspace, or hacking him in half with his laser eyes?

The Topic can change as this conundrum runs course.

Three things one kryptonite and two good always sees the good in evil hoping someday they will change for the better.
Good never stoops to evil's level good is better than that good is the better man and walks away no matter what happens. But however if it comes down to so be it. Lex has valuable technology that can be useful.

Well stated indeed. I like that.

I like to think that even Superman needs an ever lingering adversary. Sort of why The same cultures that made up gods also made the adversary figure.

Superman won't kill anyone! This puts him at a great disadvantage to a man like Lex but everyone knows that superheroes have standards and the most revered one is thou shall not KILL!!! This is why I hate the new film as he killed General Zod! What good are powers or superspeed if you're not willing to save people and that would include the villains as well! I'm not the saving superhero type, hell I'd probably be the supervillain but I would still have standards that go with the job. It's called professionalism!!!

Uhhh...in the comics, Superman did indeed kill the three criminals from Krypton, including General Zod.

And it's not a new concept to the films. Christopher Reeve's Superman killed Zod as well.

Superman is boring because he's so artificial. He's, to quote the Scottish 'No Real'. He cannot be hurt nor slowed down nor beaten nor even, as it turns out, killed for any length of time. There's never any dramatic suspection that's in any way other than artificial and PALPABLY SO, compared to other heroes. DC is, alas, awfully good at that. I, for example, have never really got into Green Lantern for pretty much the same reason. Don't even get me started on New Gods.

Superman is just an enormous jerk who you cannot identify with in any way, shape or form, which is pretty much WHY I was blown away by Red Son. Here was a Superman story I could finally get behind because Superman becomes what he was ALWAYS destined to be. Absolute Power DOES corrupt absolutely and any 'beacon of light or freedom on the hill' metaphor you care to name has always proven to be false and messed up.

Superman, with his Power, were he to exist would by his very nature be forced into controlling his environment. He would, quite literally, have no choice in the matter. Which is why making his artificial flaws a story point makes NO SENSE.

At this stage I'll refer you to a Lois and Clark episode - where a jury is convinced that Supes powers are causing a heat wave. They ask him to stop using them. He CAN'T. That episode I loved. Superman cannot act without being in the limitations of his own, er, lack of limitations. He's as bound to what he is as much as anyone else and what he is a massive over powerful douche nozzle.

I prefer Batman. I love Spiderman. I Adore Tony Stark.

These people are human. They are flawed. They are, without doubt, complete and utter assholes. Yet they are heroes not by removal of free will, but by choice. Continued against the odds choice.

Heroes.

Superman is not a hero.

Chis Reeve just knocked Zod off a cliff in the fortress we don't know if he's dead. Superman is a hero the greatest one of all that's why he's called superman. I'm a secure person that doesn't have to belittle superman just because he has a multitude of powers. The greatest superhero should have all those powers. I've read the first superman comics and he was kind of a bully sometimes but I've never seen him kill anybody. I consider the new stuff trash so I'd not know of anytime superman killed in the comics. I own the chronicles and he doesn't blatantly kill anybody. In that new stinking film he kills Zod and there is NO doubt!!! Plus Superman doesn't take off like he's wearing a damn jet pack. The film had extremely POOR casting and by the way the original Superman didn't wear underwear on the outside. Any intelligent person would know that was what passed for a gym/boxing attire in the thirties! In, short Superman began in the thirties and ended with Chris Reeve. Plus Superman IS a superhero and the greatest. All this coming from a childhood Batman fan. However, we must give credit where credit is due!!!! Superman=superhero=Chris Reeves ---enough said!!!
