I would sure hate to be paying for my cellphone to be connected to Vampire Rave if I had to pay to receive, "birthday messages" for people I don't even know. Wouldn't it be nice if birthday messages weren't directed to the inbox, but rather to the system message box instead.

There's a few things to that, though. Hopefully people that don't have unlimited text messages wouldn't sign up for this VR alert option (it isn't mandatory). As for system messages, people usually want to see their friends birthdays right away. And for knowing who they are are, the only alerts you get are those members you've added as a friend, not anyone else- we don't have to add people we don't know. That's the whole mindset behind getting them and where they are sent.

If you don't even know them then why are they on your friends list? There's a much simpler solution to your problem.

On the contrary more members may sign up for the mobile option if messages come through the system, rather than the inbox. The system here was designed so members could progress through the ranks by adding others to their friend lists, so why should they have to pay for that privilege through unwanted text messages to their mobile for goodness sakes!
On a personal note, I believe I have added less than thirty people on my friends list since the inception of Vampire Rave, but others more senior in rank must be adding friends on a daily basis to achieve the status levels above me, that... or they are spending their entire life on Vampire Rave!
