Halloween 2008

21:25 Oct 30 2008
Times Read: 1,251

I am so happy n' singing as I pack my bag to go on this Halloween adventure. Must say 'tho I am a bit in awe of it too being there with professional ghost hunters in such a supposed haunted place. Yes, I am a skeptic..maybe I am nervous of actually seeing a ghost and having to believe in them after all! *bites lip* am I scared..? I don't know..I have mixed feelings on that. I know I am happy..yea that is what counts and I can't wait to get to the Castle for this adventure :)

A mignight Seance Mass..it will be my first. I don't really believe in doing things in half measures do I? what with having the first one in an ancient Celtic circle of stones burial ground. Yes! I am scared! - ghost haunting later in the creepy places...I feel I am going to have the Bejesus knock out of me! Eeeeeeeeeeeekkkk! You guys are gonna hear me scream in America!!

Teehee, silly thought ...I couldn't get a reply at the Castle Hotel today until after dark - whats that telling me? Creepppyyyyyyyy!

I am scared already! but I reckon if the judge Louis from X-Factor made it through the night in that room recently, then so can I!!

Halloween weekend for me, kicks off with a flight down to Dublin and then a car ride over to the Castle. Richard Felix from Sky Satellite television show, "Most Haunted" will be hosting the weekend which will kick off with a, "Ghost Fest" on the Friday evening.. a feast with a difference I guess! After which Richard, and us residents will be holding a midnight seance Mass around the Circle Stones! teehee, shaking in my boots at the thought of that.

At 2am we have a "live" ghost haunting with the professionals of the television investigation team! I think I will need a few jars for this one!!

The following morning after breakfast we get to visit more of Irelands haunted castles with Richard..here they are:

Leap Castle

After the visitations.. and later that night we have the Halloween Feast & Halloween Ball which will be hopefully fun and you never know, I may get a dance with Richard Felix!!

The Lipstick Proviso

21:22 Oct 23 2008
Times Read: 1,349

For those of you who wondered what the lipstick thing was all about (considering it had a load of unidentified hits) I wouldn't want to keep you in suspense, so here you are!

The Lipstick Proviso

by Karen Lehman

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Many women today prepare for a big meeting by reading a stack of folders and applying lipstick. They order their male colleagues around, then wait for those same men to help them on with their coats. They have higher-status jobs than some of the men they date, yet they never call men socially or ask them out.

What's going on? Why such seemingly contradictory behaviors? Have women completely failed feminism--or has feminism failed them?

In The Lipstick Proviso, Karen Lehrman--hailed by the New York Times as the "sharpest" of the new feminist thinkers--shows that women today are failing neither feminism nor themselves. Rather, they've entered a new stage of feminism, one in which the personal is not political, differences between the sexes need to be respected, and courtship, chivalry, and the nuclear family don't have to be jettisoned just because they existed before the sixties.

Thirty years after the women's movement liberated women from narrowly defined roles, Lehrman argues, we are finally beginning to see which traditionally feminine behaviors are more deeply rooted in biology and which are more heavily influenced by culture. Lehrman asserts that the result--whatever it is--will not undermine feminism as long as women still retain equal rights, opportunities, and responsibilities. Dispensing with the outdated notion of sisterhood, Lehrman offers women a "lipstick proviso": women don't have to sacrifice their complex individuality in order to be equal.

As the first book to move beyond a critique of orthodox feminism, The Lipstick Proviso sets a radically new course for the future of the women's movement. While there's still much political work to be done, Lehrman argues that women should now focus on the personal sides of their lives. Women can't rightly be called autonomous if they stay with abusive or even emotionally challenged lovers; say "yes" to sex when they really mean "no"; overeat or undereat to hide their sexuality.

With wit and grace, Karen Lehrman offers in The Lipstick Proviso a way to complete the feminist revolution, and clearly establishes herself as the definitive voice of the next generation of feminism.

The class is with my Professional Body in Leicester, England.. I think it is prettier outside the town than in it..but then I will not be looking at the scenery much!

Will God accept people who are very religious and totally sincere if they are not Christians?

19:53 Oct 17 2008
Times Read: 1,500

A person can be sincere, but he also can be sincerely wrong. The Bible says there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it is the way of death (Proverbs 16:25)

There are many cases each year when someone jokingly points a gun at someone else, sincerely believing it to be empty. The gun goes off and the other individual is killed, with the person pulling the trigger saying, "I didn't know it was loaded."

That person might be 100 percent sincere in the fact that he did not want to harm the other individual, but he was sincerely believing something that was just not true. Sincerity is not enough, if the object of belief is not true, then all the sincerity in the world will not bring that person who had been shot with the gun back to life.

God would absolutely accept. It's all about intentions. I believe this, as I would never blame a child for a parents divorce just because one of the parents didn't want a child.

There's always a chain of events, but it's all about intentions.

So belief that the gun was unloaded changed nothing about the outcome. Perhaps because belief changes nothing? I'm hunting for an example where belief changes reality.

Then again, belief can alter our behavior. If not for sincere belief the gun was unloaded, it wouldn't have been pointed at a person in the first place, would it?

Do you really believe the story of Jonah and the Whale?

22:09 Oct 16 2008
Times Read: 1,543

Of all the stories in tne Bible, this one is the hardest to swallow for most people and skeptics have a field day making fun of the story of the man who was swallowed whole by a whale and lived to tell of it after three days and nights in the whales tummy.

2 Kings 14:25 refers to Jonah as a historical figure and Jesus Himself treated him as historical relating that Jonah was a prophet, whose preaching resulted in the people of Nineveh reprenting. Jesus even compared the story of Jonah to His own death and resurrection, "For just as Jonah was three days and nights in the belly of the sea monster; so shall the Son of Man be three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh shall stand up with this generation at the judgement, and shall condemn it because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, something greater than Jonah is here" (Matthew 12:40, 41, NASB)

jonah Pictures, Images and Photos

If one denies the story of Jonah, he (or she) must then assume ignorance or deceoption on the part of Jesus, who believed in its authenticity. This would, in effect, destroy His claim to being God.

I don't believe it, and hardly anyone in my church believes this actually happened :) Even my priest believes this was a parable, a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson... And Jesus was the king of parables :)

imagesinwords

22:23 Oct 16 2008

...adding to that, believing it is a parable doesn't mean Jonah was not a real man that was tested and challenged by faith- we (my and my fellow Theologians in school) believe this was a parable of his journey :)

Everdene

22:26 Oct 16 2008

yep I agree with Heidi - early texts were highly metaphorical because of the lack of literacy and general experience of the people to whom priests were trying to communicate. It is easier to get a point across via an allegory or a striking image.

I like to consider all possibilities..yes, Jesus was an originater of parables but consider the implications if the Jonah allegory were true...

On a footnote; in the 19th century a man named James Bartley is known to have survived a day and a half inside the belly of a whale before being rescured..

I believe if any of us had paid for a product or service, the majority of us would expect it to be in proper working order. If it is not, then you would expect appropriate customer service and after sales care as a-matter-of-fact and in particular if you are a good customer. For Pete's Sake! The Looney Tunes are rampant in the streets of London !!

22:48 Oct 07 2008
Times Read: 1,740

ITN - Tuesday, October 7 05:59 pmA Londoner who was shot for wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt has spoken of his terror.

Data administrator Dube Egwuatu, 36, needed hospital treatment after he was shot three times with a ball-bearing gun.

Mr Egwuatu was attacked as he tried to buy a mobile phone card at an off-licence in Upper Norwood, south London, on Sunday afternoon while wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with an image of the black US presidential candidate.

A man confronted Mr Egwuatu inside the shop and launched a volley of racist abuse before chasing him with a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The victim ran to his car and tried to drive off but the attacker, described as 6ft and with short hair, attempted to climb in through the passenger window before pulling out the gun and shooting Mr Egwuatu in the face and shoulder at point-blank range.

Mr Egwuatu said: "It was like a scene from a movie, I just couldn't believe what was happening, I'd only gone out to buy some groceries."

He added: "When he pulled the gun out on me I could feel my life flashing in front of my eyes.

"He repeatedly racially abused me in the shop and kept saying that he had something for me. I didn't realise that something would be the gun.

"What really shocked me was the venom in this man's eyes as he was racially abusing me for absolutely no reason, the veins on his neck were popping out, there was so much anger."

The Met police said no one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

It was never my style to make fun of, or post in my journal silly questions that members asked, either to the Acolyte system or via pm... but really sometimes you have wonder at the quality of questions asked. ..

For example four years ago we got questions that required an intelligent reply, and now it appears for the most of the time you get questions that the member could of answered themselves, if they had taken the time to read the terms of service!

Has four years really made such a difference were the young generation seem to "expect" thngs done for them..instead of achieving it themselves? Just an observation of mines. I detest lazy people.

The Storm

Today it was ever so windy here, and we were left without power to the house for a few hours. It is already winter with temperatures as low as 7c today, so we are lucky we had the stove to run the radiators with.

A pole had blown down at the back of the house, and a fuse had blown. Fortunately the farmer next door helped the Electricity Board with the aid of his tractor in erecting the pole again on a temporary basis, so we didn't have to spend all night in the glow of candlelight :)

It got me to thinking of how they used to do in times before Isaac Newton was born as there I was missing the music, my computer and the televison. Even the radio sounded boring. I considered I was spoilt with modern technology, and I romantically let my mind run to my dream of playing and owning a piano... I could even sing then, or make up tunes and perhaps be inspired to write poety and lyrics in the way I used to.

I came back from my day-dream with a start as the server beeped back on again, and tune of windows start-up came through the speakers. I thought I'd explore that option again..but then I have said that once before too..
