its funny, u mite guess that being a pagan can be quite hard. it can be, especially when works for the school and their children also attend said school. most o te time its not.
our school district is very good at keeping church and state sepertae from one another. and is also good at not being predjudiace to its employees. but around the holidays its when it gets a little tricky, and also the other kids in the school system that are the prejudiace ones.
sure our holidays follow very close to the chrstian belief system, they made it that way. they did it to try and wipe out paganism all together.
take christmas for example. jesus was born in the spring, but they couldnt celebrate his ressurection and his birthday that close together, and we had uke, the winter solstice to contend to. so the made jesus' birthday on the 25th of dec. to try and make everyone forget about what the winter solstice was all about.
then you have easter, or what we pagans like to call eostara. sure jesus was born probably more around beltane actaully, and he mite have been resurrected around oestara, but the christians cant tell u for sure. so they turned beltane into may 1st, may day, our lamas into candlemas for the catholics and our samhain into halloween. which is funny if i do say so myself because now they are stating to fear something they themselves created. funny.
i'm still waiting to see what they will come up with for lughnasad, the summer solstice, modrin, and a few others i'm sure they dont know about. we celebrate life, life that mother nature gives to us, that and all her cycles.
but back to what i was saying, it can be hard working and goin to school system thaty is really christian based. lie now, i get my yule off, my children get to celebrate winter solstice and christmas and this happens fo us most of the time on oestara as well. and of course it happens with the summer solstice and modrin because of no school. but all of our other holidays, we are usually stuck in school.
i get sick days and business days off, religon falls in neither of those catagories. not for the children either. but we make due. we celebrate our holidays and then the christian ones too. hey i said we are a celebrating group didnt i? all gods are welcome. i may not believe in theirs, doesnt mean i dont believe in some of the reasons behind it all.
i can explain why the easter (eostara) bunny can lay eggs to my children. can you?
