The natural power of animal spirit guides has not been lost. The knowledge and power of animal guides is alive and can be effectively used to improve our lives and all creation. American Indians call the process of connecting with animal guides and other parts of creation as being ‘One with Nature.’
Connecting with your animal guide will make you a better person. You will be healthier physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. You will see the world and all things in it with more clarity and understanding.
Animals are wondrous happy creatures. There is no doubt that animals have beautiful, balanced emotions. They love and defend one another. They feel sorrow and melancholy. Yet, there has never been a war between animal species. They know nothing about greed, envy, and hate. They live their entire lives without sin.
They have many amazing powers and use those powers only to benefit their kind and not to overcome their opponents. There is a reason why the Creator put all of us together on the same planet. A part of that reason is to learn from one another.
Animals are here to teach humans. They have many powerful lessons to give. They remind us that we are only a small part of creation; that each part of creation has a place; that each creature has its own skill and wisdom.
For the learning process to begin we must develop a relationship with one or more animal guides and this requires time and patience. This does not mean you must be with the animal physically. But instead, will learn about the traits, habits, skills and spirit of the animal from afar. As with any new knowledge, practice is important to hone learning into a useful skill. The rewards will be understanding, love, light energy, skillful knowledge and wisdom.
Moreover, the reward is having a powerful spiritual friend.
Both domesticated and free animals offer an immense heritage of myth, folklore and symbolism. As we learn about animals, it is important to know their symbolic meaning as a point of reference and comparison, however we must keep in mind that symbols are cultural in nature and differ from place to place, from time to time and may not reflect the nature of the animal as you feel it. Give time to the study of their characteristics, habitat and position in the eco-system.
TYPES OF ANIMAL GUIDES
Symbolic of the four sacred directions, four seasons, and the four colors of man, there are four basic types of animal guides.
Whether an animal spirit comes by dreams, signs and symbolic events, or actual events it is important to first determine if the guide is a Messenger Guide (Totem), Shadow Guide, Journey Guide or Life Guide.
The meaning and lessons an animal guide brings will differ according to the type of guide it may be. Learning to differentiate between the four types of totems is critical to knowing how to react and the actions you will take when an animal totem makes itself known to you. All guides are powerful.
A Messenger Guide
quickly comes into your life and then leaves once a message is understood. The time a Message Guide stays in your psychic is relative to you seeing and accepting the message. The message itself can be spiritual in nature, or it can be a warning. The message may deal with a seemingly mundane aspect of your life or it may be a wake-up call for some important action you must make. Sometimes the animal messenger will come during an unusual event and make a powerful statement and others come on the wind as a whisper. A messenger guide can cause you delays or some unforeseen help in your life. They can be both negative and positive in nature for they are totally impartial.
A Shadow Animal Guide i
is one that invades you with fear. Its purpose it to teach a lesson you have not learned from repeated mistakes because of anger, avarice, greed, insecurity, or other negative thoughts. A Shadow Guide will return again and again bearing strong feelings of fear until its message is acted upon or a change in lifestyle or actions are incorporated into your life. The Shadow Guide is powerful. It can help you to overcome fear by bringing truth and turning fear into a helper animal guide or spirit animal guide. However, if ignored the Shadow Guide can become dangerous and its powers will have a negative affect on your life. The Shadow Guide lives in the spirit world and usually arrives during a time of testing.
A Journey Animal Guide
appears at the fork in the road of your life. When a decision is made to follow a certain path in life, the Journey Guide is there to serve as a guide along the way. It represents a path that may take months or years to complete. It can be a friendly traveling companion if the path is right. If you become lost along the way, the Journey Guide is there help lead the way back. Unlike a Messenger Guide who comes and leaves quickly, the Journey Guide remains at your side until the current cycle in your life has changed. appears at the fork in the road of your life. A Life Animal Guide
is also called a Spirit Guide as it remains a part of you throughout life and reflects your inner-spiritual self. You may have more than one Life Guide and new ones may come during an expected time. Usually a Life Guide does not move away or disappear but remains an integral part of your life, however, there are instances when a particular Life Guide is no longer needed and is replaced with a new one. Its powers are always there for you and serve as a constant reminder of your inner powers and oneness with nature. If for example your Life Guide is Bear, you should be a person who is a solitary dweller, a seeker of knowledge and well grounded. A Life Guide will often call upon other animal guides found within its domain to assist in giving you special messages from time to time.
MEETING YOUR ANIMAL GUIDE
After you understand what type of animal guide has come into your life, it is necessary to educate yourself fully as to the nature of the animal. Learn about its habitat, life cycles, what it eats, physical characteristics, special skills and traits, social and mating habits. Go to places where your animal guide can be found in real life. Study it in nature. Gaining insight into the nature of your animal guide will help you to better understand its messages. Meditate on this knowledge and discover its power and medicine.
After you learn various ways to work with the medicine of you animal spirit guide, the medicine becomes a gateway to connecting with other spirit guides found within its domain. Your animal spirit guide (or those spirits who choose to reveal themselves in the form of an animal) will teach you how to align with other spirit guides and beings.
Remember: The spirit guide chooses the person. The person does not choose the spirit guide. A person cannot simply select an animal and begin communication – the results of which are often frustrating and unsuccessful. A spirit guide must be harmonious with the person.
Communication with your spirit guide requires reverent respect and knowledge of the ways of the animal guide. You must find ways to honor your spirit guide. The more importance you give to the spirit guide the more they respond to you. Most spirit guides do not immediately acknowledge themselves to the person as they are leery of your intention and knowledge. A spirit guide is sensitive to moods, current events, and a persons path in life. They must first trust you and learn your needs and wants. You must learn to trust them and understand their needs and wants. It takes time, patience and practice.
PREPARATION AND THE JOURNEY
Sit down in a quiet place alone. Make certain there will be no distractions or interruptions. Draw a circle around you and bless the circle with sage, cedar, sweet grass, tobacco or some other sacred medicine. Begin your journey into the spirit world with prayer and continue with deep meditation.
Get comfortable. Take a deep breath. Inhale, exhale deeply several time. Release your ego, desires and expectations of what may follow. Chase away all shadows of fear and negativity. Begin to dream of some idyllic place like a forest trail, bubbling mountain stream, or flower covered glen. Move about in this world seeing, smelling and feeling everything. After awhile, you will hear something and you will see a creature slowly coming to you.
The creature is friendly and invites your touch. You embrace. This is your animal spirit guide. Spend time talking with your animal guide now.
Be open to any and all types of messages. Do not get trapped by wishing for a certain messages. Clear your mind completely. Open your heart to its love and lessons. When your time is finished, thank all the beings in this special place and your animal guide who has chosen to teach you. Slowly return by the way you came into full consciousness. Open your eyes.
What happens when I make a formal commitment to Satan?
Satan looks out for his own. Satan gives us an inner strength and we become very strong in spirit. Unlike right hand path religions, where adherents are forever praying and searching for their god, Satan comes to us on his own. Many times, we can feel him. He comes to guide us when we get down, worried, or are experiencing problems.
He snaps us into line and directs us as to what we need to do to be focused and happy.
The foundation of Spiritual Satanism is in our finishing Satan's work upon humanity. This is the goal of the godhead, and is accomplished through power meditation. Humanity is currently at a very low level spiritually. When we begin to meditate, we experience profound positive changes within our lives. Satan and his Demons (The Original Gods) protect us and look out for us as we transform and achieve personal power. With Satan, we have protection that outsiders do not have. We can advance in the powers of the mind and soul as far as we wish. For outsiders, this can prove dangerous.
Satan also gives us knowledge. "I lead to the straight path without a book."
As we transform and grow, our lives change for the better and we are much happier. We learn through Satan how to take control of our own lives and destiny instead of being at the mercy of fate. We learn to heal ourselves, and to fulfill our own desires, using the powers of our mind and soul.
In making a commitment, we engage a formal ritual. This is done out of free will. We are making a choice, as opposed to being dragged off to some Christian church, and reciting canned prayers (stolen and corrupted from Eastern mantras) in front of a bunch of idiots.
With knowledge and research, we can prove beyond all doubt that the nazarene, "jehova" and ilk are all fictitious characters, stolen from and corrupted concepts to remove all spiritual knowledge so that a "chosen" few can rule the world using powers of the mind and soul. For further information, please visit www.exposingchristianity.com
Because so many have been forcefully indoctrinated with these characters, and what they stand for (Enemies of Satan), we renounce them permanently in the dedication ritual. This proves to be psychologically healthy and liberating.
The initiation ritual is very personal, unless you decide to have friends participate, or are doing it as part of a group.
You will need:
(1) 1 or more black, blue or red candles (as many as you like)
(2) A sterilized needle or razor
(3) A piece of clean paper, large enough to write the prayer below
(4) A dry pen, where you sign your name in blood (dip the ip of the pen in your blood)
Write the following prayer:
Before the almighty and ineffable God Satan/Lucifer and in the presence of all Demons of Hell, who are the True and the Original gods, I, (state your full name) renounce any and all past allegiances. I renounce the false Judeo/Christian god Jehova, I renounce his vile and worthless son Jesus Christ, I renounce his foul, odious, and rotten holy spirit.
I proclaim Satan Lucifer as my one and only God. I promise to recognize and honor him in all things, without reservation, desiring in return, his manifold assistance in the successful completion of my endeavors.
It is important to bathe before any rituals you perform, this is done out of respect. When you are ready, you can light the candle. Take the needle, prick the index finger of your left hand, squeeze some blood out.
Sign your name in blood.
Recite the prayer either aloud or in your head
Fold the paper and let it burn in the fire of the candle. Many of us have stayed and meditated until the candle had burned itself out.
At the end of the ritual, close with the words "So mote it be." And a Big "HAIL SATAN!!"
How to live longer
Eat less: Research on animals has shown that the only surefire way to extend life is through dietary or calorific restriction - eat just enough to stay alive. You won't have energy to do much, though.
Refrain from sex: In many species, having sex seems to shorten lifespan. Resist temptation and you might be blessed with more time in which to regret not enjoying yourself more.
Be popular: Good social networks, happy marriage and close family contacts promote longer life.
Choose your parents: There appears to be a genetic contribution to longevity - long-lived parents tend to give rise to long-lived offspring. As George Sheehan put it to would-be athletes: "choose your parents carefully".
Allegedly a goat-headed devil figure
Central to the accusations brought against the Knights Templar, was the accusation that, they worshipped an idol named Baphomet, which is said to have taken the form of a head or sometimes a Black Cat. The truth behind this mythos varies with various scholars.
The Baphomet is one aspect of the Templars mythos, could generate so many theories as to its true origins is amazing. The interest in the Baphomet has survived over 600 years and taken many forms. The opinions on the Baphomet vary greatly from scholar to scholar and mystic path to mystic path. The purpose of this section is to shed some light on some of the theories and the connection, if any, to the Knights Templar.
Mistakingly some describe the Templars as Devil worshipping Occultists, while historians of the twentieth century were of the belief that the Templars were party to the machinations of a corrupt government and church. It remains to be seen what the common consensus of this century will be regarding the order.
Twentieth century historians may have believed in innocence, the Baphomet mythos did survive as is indicated by the following dictionary definition: "Baphomet was the deity worshipped by the Knights Templar, and in Black Magic as the source and creator of evil; the Satanic goat of the witches' Sabbath and one of the names adopted by Aleister Crowley."
The image of the Baphomet is as varied as the explanations as to its etymology. A listing of some of the more common descriptions of it.
An idol with a human skull
Ahead with two faces
With a beard - Without a beard
With the heads of a cockerel
With the head of a man
With the head of a goat and the body of a man
Wings and cloven feet
The upper body of a woman (maternity)
A candle on its head - a symbol of revelation combining male sexual potency with the four elements and intelligence
Theories on the etymology of the Baphomet are many. To some it is believed to be a corruption of the Moslem prophet "Mahomet" or in English Mohammed. The Templars fought along side Moslem Assassins during their time and it is held that they may have adopted Islamic beliefs. This doesn't really hold water to anyone familiar with Islam as the religion forbids all forms of idolatry.
Another train of thought is that Baphomet is really a joining of two Greek words meaning absorption into wisdom. In either case the fact remains that the Templars were accused of practicing their initiations and rituals in front of a large idol of the demon Baphomet.
How did this belief come to be? Since King Philip of France sought to own the vast Templar wealth, he along with his puppet Pope Clement V had the Templars captured and tortured. During these tortures they made many confessions, among these, the disclosure that they had worshipped an idol said to be the Baphomet.
Were these claims true? Perhaps we'll never know. Jacques de Molay, who had earlier confessed his and the Templars guilt slowly burned at the stake insisting the order was innocent of all but one offence, that of allowing torture to cause them to lie and confess untruths.
Most people have only a vague idea of everyday life 2,000 years ago, especially specific medical situations such as childbirth. So what was medicine like in ancient times, in the period from first emergence of humans almost 2.5 million years ago to 456 A.D., the fall of the Western Roman Empire?
A society used to medical marvels of the late 20th century might naturally assume that ancient medicine was a primitive affair. The reality, however, is somewhat different.
Ancient physicians had no miracle drugs to treat disease. There were no computerized X-ray or magnetic resonance scanners, or medical laboratories, to diagnose disease.
But they did an amazingly competent job of treating the sick and injured. Some of the medical technology developed in ancient times surpassed anything available in the modern world until the 18th century or 19th century.
A person living at the time of Christ's birth, for instance, might have access to better plastic surgery than someone living in Europe in the early 1700s. Modern plastic surgery began in the 1700s when British surgeons working for the East India Company saw the work done by Indian surgeons.
They used technology developed by Shushruta, a Hindu surgeon who probably lived around 100 B.C. Modern surgeons have never found better substitutes for some ancient techniques.
One is the pedicle flap, which involves freeing a flap of tissue from one part of the body and sewing it onto another to repair a defect. It was developed 2,000 years ago.
Cataract operations were done in ancient India, and became almost routine in ancient Rome.
In 30 B.C. the famous Roman physician, Cornelius Celsus, described the technique in his classic book, On Medicine. The operation, called couching was used into the 20th century.
Celsus's book was so good that physicians used it for more than 1,700 years. Claudius Galen (130-200 A.D.) wrote books on human anatomy that were best sellers for almost as long.
Galen, by the way, often gets credit for developing a never-surpassed diagnostic procedure, taking the pulse.
Long before Galen, ancient Chinese physicians realized that the pulse seemed harder in people who ate a lot of salty food. It may have been the first recognition of the link between too much table salt and high blood pressure.
Consider another ancient medical innovation: Brain surgery. It was done in the Stone Age, which ended around 3,000 B.C.
Stone Age people did a kind of brain surgery called "trephining." Trephining was the first known surgical procedure. It involves cutting a hole through the skull bone to relieve excess pressure. Stone Age surgeons probably did it to release "evil spirits" that they regarded as the cause of headaches or strange behavior.
Scientists have found trephined skulls, with neatly cut holes, dating to about 8,000 B.C. On some, the cut edges of bone show definite signs of healing. It means that the patients lived for at least weeks or months after surgery.
Then there's acupuncture, developed in ancient China, rediscovered by Western medicine in the 1970s, and just given a partial endorsement by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
People who did plastic surgery in India and cataract extractions in Rome 2,000 years ago -- and brain surgery 10,000 years ago, helped build the foundations of our modern health-care system. Most amazing is how much they accomplished, with so little.
Auras can either be seen or sensed physically. Most people fail to see the auras because they strain hard to see it. The auras can be seen only when you are relaxed and the eyes are not under any strain. Some also say that while daydreaming or in deep thought, when the eyes lose focus, you have the best opportunity to see auras.
Step 1
The first step is to start with inanimate objects and primary colors, e.g., red colored book. The auras of blue and red are the brightest, so start with that. Relax yourself and your eyes. Then focus at a single point and concentrate. After a few moments, you will see a slight aura. At this point, you might be tempted to see it but, do not look anywhere else. Do not change focus and do not look at it. You can blink your eyes so that they do not water. The aura might disappear due to blinking but it will come back.
Step 2
After this first step, look for different primary colors. For ease, you can cover different books with color papers and start focusing. This is all for increasing the practice. Once you learn how to un-focus and concentrate, move to plants. Collect flowers along with leaves and start the exercise similarly. You will see a pinkish-orange aura around the stem and leaves. Around a living plant, you will notice a shimmering, more distinct effect due to the living aura.
Step 3
Next step is to practice on animals. This is not so easy because it is difficult to keep them still for a long time. The best way out is to concentrate on your dog or cat while they are resting.
Step 4
Watch your own aura. This can be done both outdoor and indoor. Observe your arms or legs. Concentrate and try to see the aura. Preferably do this against a light background.
Step 5
After all these, now that you have understood the peripheral vision and the technique to un-focus, try it on a human subject. Seeing the human aura is the most difficult as humans are the most complex organisms in this chain with a multitude of emotions and feelings. At first, you might just see a smoke sticking to their skin. Next, you will see their live aura (shimmering optical effect). The depth of this aura depends upon the mood of the person. The aura is strong and brightly colored when they are in a good mood and vice-versa. Try to focus on their bare skin or at the center of the head.
Note:
* Keep the subject against a neutral background, preferably white. This is because you will be able to see a clear aura and there will not be mixing or overlapping of aura colors. If this does not work, go for a black background.
* Music enhances the mood, so, you can play the favorite music of your subject to strengthen their aura.
* Do not try very hard to see the aura at the first try. It takes a lot of practice and mastering the technique to be able to see the living aura comfortably.
Significance of Colors in Aura
Different aura colors signify different things. Here is a list of various colors that appear in the aura and their associated meanings. These colors are divided into clean and dirty colors.
Clean colors
* Blue: Indicates relaxed and balanced life and mind. These are the born survivors.
* Turquoise: Indicates a dynamic, highly energized personality. These are organizers, managers and are easily capable of influencing others. These are born leaders.
* Purple: Indicates spiritual thoughts and is never a stable color of the aura.
* Green: Indicates a restful, peaceful presence. These are the natural healers.
* Yellow: Indicates joy, freedom and non-attachment. It is associated with a spiritual teacher.
* Orange: Indicates the feeling of upliftment and power. It is associated with exercising power and a will to control others. These are strong spiritual leaders with unique capabilities.
* Pink: Indicates spiritual love. The person has achieved balance between spiritual awareness and material existence. It is rarely seen on earth and is never a strong point in the aura.
* Red: Indicates materialistic thoughts. It is also associated with thoughts about the physical body.
* White: Indicates high spiritual vibration. Considered Godly and divine. Often indicates pure state and is associated with angelic qualities. Seen around pregnant or to-be-pregnant mothers.
Dirty colors
* Sulfur: Pain, anger, unease.
* Brown: Distraction, materialism, non-spiritualism.
* Gray: Depression, bad thoughts, a dark personality.
* Black: It is the color associated with disease and death. Due to too much noise it is not possible to see a single color in such an aura. Indicates hatred, lack of forgiveness and unresolved karma.
These are the basic aura colors. A combination or mixture of these are also seen in the aura. Also, the colors might be present in different shades and intensities in the aura. The different color shades, intensity and combination of these aura colors represent different state of being and have dissimilar meanings. So, if you are looking for a deeper understanding of this subject, that will only come through observation, practice, exposure and sometimes, you might require help from a proficient soul for guidance and explication.
Communicating with the dead is no mean task, and requires you to put in a lot to achieve some success in this task. As much as you wish it was as simple as making a phone call and finding out how they are doing, this isn't the case. A lot of concentration, attention and effort is needed to be able to effectively communicate with the dead.
* The first step in your effort is to believe that such a supernatural communication is possible. Unless you don't believe it from the depths of your heart, you are not going to achieve much. This concept of faith is applicable to anything you wish to do, and communicating with the dead is included in it.
* Then comes the intensity of your desire. You have to deeply desire communication with the deceased loved one, for even a remote chance of success. You may be struck with intense emotions while trying to communicate such as guilt and more possibly, fear. These emotions may create an obstacle in your endeavor to communicate. You have to allow these emotions to pass, to heal, so that you can reach out to the one who has passed.
* Once you have inculcated the above mentioned steps, your desire for communication with the dead will be effectively conveyed. However, now, you have to watch out for the signs. The dead will not come and start chatting with you out of nowhere. You have to look for signs, as answers to your questions. You may have dream visitations from the deceased, where he/she may speak to you. The communication may also be very subtle, which you may not notice. This is why you must keep your eyes and ears open. You may have a vision, or a passing image, or just some subliminal messages that you will have to decipher to understand how the deceased is trying to communicate with you.
* When you receive a signal of communication from the dead, it is time for you to make your move. Most often, you may have questions in your mind, which you can write down in your diary, as a mode of communication to seek guidance from the departed. In such a case, you may receive your answers through dreams or other such media, or through someone who you may give you an answer that you would expect from the departed.
* Lastly, you may wish to communicate with the dead through a psychic or a clairvoyant. The methods in which they offer communication may vary, however, they do function as more effective media than yourself, for this purpose. Just remember that when you communicate through such a medium, do not give out any personal information to the clairvoyant. They are most likely not to require it. Also, use a personal detail that only you and the deceased were aware of, as a sign of authenticity of the psychic.
As mentioned before, communicating with the dead is not simple, and requires a lot of time and patience. You may not receive communication from the dead for a long time after you express your desire. Then perhaps some day, there may be a sudden form of communication. The bottom line is, if you deeply desire it, don't give up on it. However, don't get fixated with trying to communicate with the dead either. Death and dying is an inevitable part of life. Sometimes, time answers your questions, and that is perhaps the best way to deal with your emotionally heightened state of mind. Psychics say that many a times, the deceased do not respond to communication from their loved ones, because they believe that it will make it further difficult to accept their death. Instead, they simply allow time to heal them and overcome their grief.
A man told his grandson: "A terrible fight is going on inside me -- a fight between two wolves. One is evil, and represents hate, anger, arrogance, intolerance, and superiority . The other is good, and represents joy, peace, love, tolerance, understanding, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, and compassion. This same fight is going on inside you, inside every other person too."
The grandson then asked: "Which wolf will win?" The old man replied simply: "The one you feed."
The Original Goth. Whether they were actually around in the 80s or not, the Trad Goth most values the traditional scene from its earliest days, when it began to evolve from Punk.
Trad Goths venerate those original Goth bands - Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Birthday Party, The Sisters of Mercy and anything played in the infamous Batcave club. Other influential bands (e.g. The Velvet Underground) may also be revered as minor deities.
Fashion is, naturally, based on the look from the period, which itself was heavily influenced by Punk - fishnets, leather jackets, piercings - in addition to heavy make-up, HUGE hair and the occassional bit of bondage gear. And, of course, lots of black. When not listening to their extensive record collection, TradGoths may be found enjoying a snakebite & black and a clove cigarette at the local “goth” pub or club.
Sadly, TradGoths often believe that Goth is, appropriately, dead, and the modern scene offers little consolation. New “goth” music genres such as EBM are perhaps their biggest pet peeve.
THE ROMANTIC GOTHS
While TradGoths tend to be all about the 80s music scene, Romantic Goths (or "RomantiGoths") focus on the dark, sensual and mysterious world of Gothic created by Victorian literature and subsequent movies. In other words they’re probably more “Gothic” than “Goth,” if that makes sense. Identifying features are velvet and lace, flowy clothes (often Victorian or Medieval inspired), and a love of poetry and literature.
It is therefore unsuprising that Romantic Goths are typically emotional, creative and dreamy types. Dead roses, crumbling graveyards and old skulls are things of exquisite beauty to these creatures. Preferred bands tend to be those that focus on “brooding” rather than “horror,” and so may include downtempo ethereal bands (eg. Love Spirals Downwards), and folk-ish bands (All About Eve, Faith and the Muse). The Sisters of Mercy and The Cure tend to go down well too. And of course a bit of atmospheric Classical music, especially Bach or Wagner.
CYBER GOTH
Cyber Goths are truly the antithesis of all that is Goth. They like bright neon colours, worship futurism and technology, and listen to dance music that is as different from Gothic Rock as possible.
So why are they called Goths at all? It could be because the music scene gradually evolved from Industrial, Goth’s experimental electronic cousin. It could be that the lyrics of their preferred music genre (Electronic Body Music, or EBM, eg. VNV Nation) are generally too deep and too depressing for other dance fans. It could be because they have weird hair.
Identifying Cyber Goths is easy: they’ll be the most conspicuous ones in the club with their insane pony falls, goggles, futuristic rave-inspired clothing, towering New Rock platforms, and miscellaneous glowing bits and pieces.
Despite being some of the most lively members of the scene, all other Goths seem to loath this type. Especially the Industrial fans. However, it cannot be denied that the cyber scene is huge now, and is getting ever more popular.
THE FETISH GOTH
Kinkyness has been a part of the Goth movement from the beginning since the first Goth musicians like Bauhaus started wearing chains, leather, fishnet and strappy bondage gear on stage. Today the image (and lifestyle) remains popular, with modern Fetish Goths having an even wider range of sexy bondage-related clothes available to choose from. Tattoos, piercings and other forms of body modification are also popular among this type. And they quite possibly all have a set of handcuffs, mask/gag and some sort of spanking implement in their bedside table.
Pretty much every Goth band has written a song about kinky sex at some point, so there’s no real preferential genre associated with Fetish Goths, although 80s New Wave (eg. Depeche Mode) and Industrial (eg. Throbbing Gristle) tend to be more fetishy than most.
As one might expect, the stereotypical Fetish Goth has tried everything at least once everywhere and in every position, with every gender. Or at least that’s what they’ll tell you.
THE HIPPIE GOTH
In the world of Goth stereotypes, you get two sorts: those who think hippies are too optimistic for their own good, and those who are hippies. A relatively abundant species, stereotypical Hippie Goths are nature-loving, follow Paganism and/or Wicca and/or misc. New Age religions, and are into candles, crystals, incense, Tarot, and anything else that can be found at the local New Age shop. The only major difference between hippies and Hippie Goths is the prevalence of black and occult symbols.
Like their hippie cousins, Hippie Goths are quite often vegetarian or vegan, and are dedicated eco warriors or animal rights activists. When not campaigning for world peace, however, they usually know how to have a lot of fun eating and drinking excessively and romping around in fields at midnight as part of “an ancient Celtic ritual.”
When it comes to music, Hippie Goths may be found meditating to dark folk (eg. Faith and the Muse), ethereal (eg. Cocteau Twins) and Pagan rock (eg. Inkubus Sukkubus), in addition to regular folk and New Age. Older Hippie Goths may listen to Fields of the Nephilim, The Cult and the more psychedelic end of the 80s spectrum (eg. Tones on Tail).
THE J GOTH
Japanese “Goth” should probably not be called “Goth” at all. Although the fashions sported by the alternative crowd in Harajuku (Tokyo’s equivalent of Camden) were largely inspired by the Western Goth movement, J-Goths tend to enter this subculture via different roots: either anime “cosplay” (dressing up as your favourite anime character) or through Japan’s own alternative music scene: Visual Kei, often thought to be started by the Japanese rock band X-Japan.
Visual Kei bands vary hugely in sound. They can either take the form of heavy metal (eg. Dir~en~Grey) or something more like cheesy Euro-pop (L’Arc~en~Ciel, Malice Mizer). What’s important, however, is the band’s look, which takes Goth, Punk and Glam elements and blends it all into a unique, androgynous combination. Very often, these mostly all-male bands will attempt to look as feminine as possible (to the point of dressing in drag).
This style has recently come full circle, with Westerners now borrowing fashion elements from the Japanese. The most popular and distinctive of these is undoubtedly the “Gothic Lolita” look (a kind of cross between Goth, Victorian fashions, Alice in Wonderland and French maid), which has now become a part of the Western Gothic spectrum.
THE RIVETHEAD
Rivet Heads, or Industrial Goths, often do not consider themselves “Goths,” although their preferred music and fashion can be found in the same shops and they’ll happily go to Goth clubs. The scene all started with the band Throbbing Gristle forming their own label, Industrial Records, for a new genre of extremely weird experimental electronic music. For some Rivet Heads, this is the only “real” Industrial music - bands like SPK and The Leather Nun which spawned from this scene of the early 80s.
However, in the modern era the Industrial scene has come to resemble a dark, rough, dystopian version of the Cyber scene. The modern Rivethead may listen to Darkwave bands resembling a heavier form of EBM (Wumpscut, Skinny Puppy), or even the commercial “Industrial Metal” bands (Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, KMFDM).
Industrial fashion is somewhat like Cyber in its futuristic appearance but is generally more monochrome, less polished and often has a military influence. It is also undeniable that Sc-Fi movies such as The Matrix have inspired the look of many Rivet Heads - a lot of them will refuse to remove their trenchcoats even in the sweatiest clubs.
THE PERKY GOTH
More of a general attitude than a true type, Perky Goths know how to have a good time. Abandoning the dark and gloomy Gothic stereotype, these Goths are cheerful, friendly and often bouncy to the point of hyperactive. They see the gothic lifestyle primarily as a way to have fun.
Because they often don brighter colours and readily dance crazily to the more upbeat music in the gothic spectrum, Perky Goths are often associated with the Cyber scene. However, you’ll find plenty of Perkies in all other aspects of the scene, from Death Rockers to Victorian vampires. The key point is, these Goths do not make the mistake of taking themselves too seriously.
The typical Perky Goth loves all the cheesiest and silliest aspects of Goth, including cute things, 80s cartoons and TV shows and anything to do with Halloween. While music tastes are diverse, typical Perky Goth bands include 80s electropop (eg. Strawberry Switchblade), silly-as-hell Death Rock (eg. Alien Sex Fiend) and comedy artists (eg. Voltaire).
THE MOPEY GOTH
The most common Goth stereotype held by non-Goths, the Mopey Goths are the ones who take the whole “dark and gloomy” aspect of Goth far too seriously. They feel that to be Goth, one must never appear to be remotely happy. They will most often be found at home in their rooms, writing angsty poetry or diaries of their doom and gloom, or else lurking in shadowy corners of clubs, waiting for someone to come and try to talk to them (so they can tell them that they’d rather be alone). As for music, anything goes provided that it is as dark and as torture-ridden as their souls. They’re also the type who will most likely wear the most black, and will most likely paint their room black (and possibly the lightbulbs, too).
Other Goths tend to find this type annoying for their self-centered nature, their attention seeking behaviour and for moaning about their life which usually isn’t really all that bad. But one shouldn’t be too hard on the poor old Mopey Goth. Most of the time, they are simply moody teenagers (and we all know how bad it can be to be a teen), and they’ll soon see the lighter side of the dark and start enjoying their chosen lifestyle. They may, alternatively, be any other type of Goth on a bad day. In which case, just give them a snakebite & black and a hug and they’ll eventually come around.
THE DEATH ROCKER
These creatures are regarded by some as the “missing link” between Punk and Goth, hence their extremely similar appearance and musical tastes to the Trad Goths. However, while the Trad Goths tend to believe that Goth is dead, the Deathrockers see that Goth is still alive and twitching, in a suitably zombified form.
Most easily recognised by their layers upon layers of ripped fishnets, band logos and enormous hair, Deathrockers listen not only to the 80s Goth Rock classics (Christian Death, Specimen and Alien Sex Fiend being notable examples), but also a new breed of crazed artists such as Cinema Strange and Tragic Black, as well as other genres such as Horror Punk and Psychobilly. As long as it’s mad, bad and features zombies / bats / death, it’s all good.
Deathrockers may also be characterised by their love of old horror movies (the cheesier the better), and very often, a good (if slightly twisted) sense of humour.
THE CORP GOTH
It all began when the Goths started growing up and having to find jobs. They wanted to work in an office (you need a good income to afford all those clothes and CDs after all), but they still wanted to retain their “gothyness.” The result? The creation of “Corporate” or “Corp” Goth. These Goths attempt to find a balance between clothes that are “Goth,” and clothes that conform to the dress code at work.
Your co-worker may be one of these types if they have a liking for dark suits (often vintage or retro style) velvet, hats, brocades, silver jewellery in the shape of spiders/ ankhs/ crosses, and of course, pinstripe (so Tim Burton). You may also find the odd cuddly bat, skull-shaped pencil holder, or other oddity on their desk. Or (dead give away) they might come in on a Monday morning having forgotten to remove their black nail polish from the night before.
The Corp Goth look has become popular throughout the subculture, and has fused with Cyber, Fetish and other Goth styles to become a fashion all of its own. Hence, you will see many Goths sporting pinstripe corsets or velvet suits regardless of their age or occupation.
As for the Corp Goths who do work, their job can almost always be described as “working with computers.”
THE VICTORIAN GOTH
One of the biggest influences on Gothic fashion has been the imagery in Gothic literature and their movie counterparts, particular that of Victorian writers such as Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stoker. Victorian fashions like corsets, lace, frock coats and pale skin are popular throughout the scene, but maybe none wear them with as much style as the Victorian Goth.
Like their Victorian role models, the Victorian Goths wish to convey an image of decorum and dignity. Clothes must be smart and, for many, historically accurate (corsets are to be worn beneath one’s garments, of course). Ball dress and mourning garb are particularly prominent in the scene.
Victorian Goths may also indulge in activities that were popular in Victorian high society, including theatre, masquerades, tea parties and poetry. And, naturally, any kind of Dickensian or other Victorian festival that gives them an excuse to parade around in costume (not that they need an excuse).
As for music, opera and classical are the true Victorian Gothic genres, but Victorian-inspired bands such as Rasputina are also acceptable.
THE MEDIEVIL GOTH
“Gothic” is normally used to refer to castles, cathedrals and other such ancient masonry, hence the prominence of Goths who have a particular interest in all things medieval. Dressing in garb (loosely) based on that of the medieval period, you may find these Goths at Renaissance Fairs or re-enactment society events. Of course, their dress and activities do not have to necessarily be strictly “Medieval:” blending with Tudor or Celtic elements seems perfectly fine too.
Naturally, Medieval Goths have an enormous sense of history, and may also be found in museums, castles, churches and ancient monuments. And when they go to cemeteries, they actually look at the names and dates on the gravestones. When they get married, they have medieval-themed weddings and live in a house filled with pre-Raphaelite prints and gargoyles.
Medieval Goth music may comprise of classical and Gregorian chants combined with folk (Loreena McKennit), ethereal (Faith and the Muse) and, of course, Mediaeval Baebes.
Generally, all female Medieval Goths would secretly like to be Morgan-le-Fay from the Arthurian legends, and all male Medieval Goths have a fixation with swords.
THE METALHEAD
Where Metalheads fit in the Gothic spectrum is an incredibly complicated issue, and a controversial one. On the one hand, many Goths (and Metalheads) point out that the two subcultures are separate entities, having different origins and music tastes, and other disparities in clothing and habits, and that the common confusion between the two is merely the fault of an uninformed public.
But on the other hand, the two groups do have enough similarities (particularly in a tendency to wear black and a love of things dark and spooky) for the two groups to mix, and more and more these days one will find crossovers in fashion and music. Clubs that play both metal and Goth music are certainly not uncommon.
Moreover, there are a number of Metal genres and bands that both sides can be found listening to, including the so-called “Gothic” or “Doom” metal genre (Type O Negative, Theatre of Tragedy) or bands that use Gothic imagery (Nightwish, Lacuna Coil), and arguably sound more “Gothic” than the original Goth bands. Not to mention the confusion the “Industrial Metal” genre (Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein) puts on the issue. It all ultimately depends on one’s definition of “Goth,” and whether it is sound, image or behaviour that determines the subculture.
THE EMO GOTH
Although the term “Emo” has been around for over a decade or so to describe a particular genre of Punk, it has recently become a buzzword of the 21st century to describe the features of the contemporary youth fashion movement. Visually a hodgepodge of many different styles including Punk, Retro, a touch of urban Japanese and Goth, it was inevitable that Emo would start demonstrating crossovers with Goth at some point.
Those Emos who cross over more than most into the Goth spectrum can be identified by their dyed black hair, black nail varnish, black eyeliner and a love of skulls and piercings. They will blend all these elements with other “typical” emo elements, such as Converses, horn-rimmed glasses, stripe and star patterns, and accents of bright colour (very often pink).
Emos, like Goths, enjoy their music, and Emo Goths (or Gothy Emos) may listen to My Chemical Romance, The Rasmus or Funeral for a Friend (great Gothy name after all).
Emos have a reputation for being rather moody, as do Goths (see Mopey Goth), so one would expect an Emo Goth to be ultra-moody. This may be true of some, but many are too fond of children’s cartoons, old computer games, cute accessories and Tim Burton films to really be considered uber-dark.
THE VAMPIRE GOTH
Pale, brooding, adverse to sunlight and attracted to strange period clothing. It’s no wonder that Goths became so strongly associated with vampires as early on as Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” Naturally, there are Goths out there who take their love of vampires one step further. They’re the ones who might don black capes and sunglasses when they go out during the day, join “vampire societies,” and whose bookshelves are filled with Anne Rice and White Wolf rule books. They’ve watched all the Dracula movies out there and are planning on visiting Romania next summer (failing that, Whitby). And they’re very partial to red wine, but not so keen on garlic.
Quick to pick up on the popularity of vampires within the subculture, a large number of Goth and Goth-related bands have done a “vampire song,” although more vampire-friendly ones include Nosferatu, Inkubus Sukkubus and, of course, Theatres des Vampires. Because they generally don’t take themselves too seriously and love Goth for both its romantic grace and its cheesy overtones,
Vampire Goths are normally very fun people to be around. Just don’t let them get too close to your neck.
THE GEEK GOTH
Essentially, all Goths are Geeks. After all, how can one devote so much time into dressing up, reading old literature and collecting obscure music without being somewhat Geeky? You will hence find typical Geek traits in all Goths, but some will be more Geeky than others.
The typical Geek Goth tends to place less emphasis on Goth as a fashion, and more on its overtones of dark fantasy. So while they may not look as spectacularly Gothic as other Goth Types, their knowledge of the symbolism and artistic influences behind Goth is very often superior. They are more inclined than most to indulge in role play, read sci-fi, fantasy and horror novels, and watch cult TV shows and films with Gothic appeal. Geek Goths are also more likely to be into computer games and anime than other Goths. You are far more likely to find them in Forbidden Planet than in a goth club.
Geek Goths are some of the most intelligent, creative and open-minded Goths you’ll meet. Fittingly, they frequently have diverse and eclectic taste in music, although they may be more attracted to bands who regularly sing about Lord of the Rings, Cthulhu or other subjects with a high Geek interest.
THE GOTHABILLY
What do you get if you mix Elvis Presley, The Cramps, a bunch of old horror movies and a splash of lounge? Bizarrely, you get Gothabilly - a rare and exotic breed of Goth with rather eclectic tastes in both music and wardrobe.
With styles originating from “Rockabilly” (American 1950s rock n roll) and “Psychobilly” (1980s punk with a heavy rockbilly influence), Gothabilly is visually and musically a play on retro, kitsch aesthetics - but with a dark twist. Like Deathrock, which often shows many overlapping traits with Gothabilly, the music and imagery is frequently tongue-in-cheek and deliberately cheesy. As such, many Gothabilly bands sport such creative names as Nacho Knoche & The Hillbilly Zombies, Cult Of The Psychic Fetus, and Vampire Beach Babes.
Gothabillys tend to be some of the brighter Goths out there, with their vivid tattoos, cherry accessories and ubiquitous polka dot clothes.
THE CABARET GOTH
The sexy, extravagant world of cabaret and burlesque is a natural partner for Goth; indeed, corsets, garters and black suits have been a Goth staple for many years. Hence, the birth of “Dark Cabaret” was perhaps a natural inevitability.
The look, feel and sound of Cabaret Goth is typified by the Dresden Dolls, although there are many other bands and artists who have toyed with burlesque imagery and music: Siouxsie and the Banshees, Voltaire, Sex Gang Children and the infamous Tiger Lillies, to name but a few. Even “goth” metal artist Marylin Manson has flirted with burlesque (quite literally, if we count Dita Von Teese).
Enthusiasts insist that true cabaret and burlesque must be as classy as it is sexy; a skill at which Goths excel above most others. Female Cabaret Goths beautifully combine corsets, lace and feathers with high heels, garters and tassles. The men? Well, they often resemble peculiar cross between Dracula, Charlie Chaplin and a mime: but they have a style and class that is all their own.
THE STEAMPUNK GOTH
The antiquated, refined elegance of Victorian Goth and the rough, edgy futurism of Rivetheads may seem a completely incompatible combination. But, thanks to a particular genre of fantasy, the two have been successfully wedded to create the Steampunk Goth.
Steampunk is, in essence, science fiction that takes place the low-tech setting of the past (very often the Victorian era). In Steampunk, you may find steam-powered robots, clockwork computers and complex contraptions made from wood, brass and wheels. The merging of Victorian imagery with quirky technology is doubtlessly of huge appeal to many Goths, but perhaps the most important links between Steampunk and Goth culture are the Victorian writers who inspired the genre, including Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe.
Steampunk Goth fashion is highly creative, incorporating elements that evoke Victorian technology such as clocks, keys and cogs. Although Steampunk is not a music scene, acts such as Rasputina, Emilie Autumn and Abney Park have all been cited as having Steampunk appeal.
THE FAERIE GOTH
There are Goths who like vampires, Goths who like zombies, and then there are Goths who are drawn to the mysterious world of the faerie. Blending elements of Romantic and Hippy goth together with a dusting of New Romantic, the Faerie Goth style conjures images of fantasy and folktale. Just add wings and glitter for a final touch.
Music that has been most closely associated with Faerie Goth is the ethereal genre - the slow, atmospheric melodies from the likes of Cocteau Twins, Black Tape for a Blue Girl and, naturally, The Changelings.
Faerie goths can be found in frolicking in forests, moonlit meadows or, failing that, deeply engrossed in a book of magical tales of old.
THE TRIBAL GOTH
In the past, “Tribal” Goth was a vague, rarely used label for Goths who flirted with primitivism - bone jewellery, dreadlocks, beads, braids, heavy body modification and anything else “ethnic.” In a way, this Goth is perhaps closest to the original Goths - the Visigoth tribe - from which we get the scene name. However, in recent years, “Tribal” Goth more often refers to a highly specialised and distinctive Goth type - the Gothic Bellydancer.
When Turkish and Egyptian bellydance became popular in the USA, a new style - “tribal” - developed. Due to its mysterious, sensual nature and ties with goddess worship, it had instant Goth appeal and before long many Goths were donning black hipscarves and heaps of jingly jewellery. In short time, “Gothic Tribal” bellydance was born.
Modern Tribal Gothic blends traditional bellydance clothes and accessories with Gothic motifs. Many dancers also invoke the “tribal” aspect of the style using accessories made from shell, bone, wood and other organic materials. Music preference is highly dependent on what music fits the dance. Bands popular among Gothic Bellydancers include Corvus Corax, Collide, Maduro and Knossos.
Spooky kids, Kindergoths, Mansonites, Mallgoths...these pre-teen or early-teen types are known by many names, most of which are derogatory. They are often regarded with scorn and contempt by older members of the Goth community. Their crimes? Generally, not being old enough to remember the 80s, not being rich enough to afford a “proper Goth” wardrobe, and not being wise enough to know the “right” music to listen to or the “right” amount of make-up to wear.
It is true that, while Baby Bats often consider themselves “Goth,” they show quite a number of differences from members of the original scene; they tend to show a preference for metal (Marylin Manson and HIM being typical “Baby Bat” music), wear clothes that reflect metal/skater fashion, and tend to go for a “shocking” rather than “aesthetic” appearance.
As the older Goths are painfully aware, the media also considers these kids to be “Goth.” While this can be annoying for Goths who do not want to be associated with the Baby Bats (particularly the ones who are in it for shock value), one must remember that it was the media in the first place who popularised the term “Goth” to decribe the original music scene. So how we define what is and what is not Goth is very difficult these days.
Very frequently, Baby Bats will start to grow more “sophisticated” in their clothes and music tastes, and become some of the most passionate members of the Goth community. For this reason too, they are to be respected, not shunned.
Joy Division are not usually thought of as being goth, despite being referred to as "gothic" at the time, but their influence on goth bands was considerable. Their sparse, haunting sound was quite unlike anything else around at the time and spawned a host of imitators, especially after Ian Curtis' death (Bauhaus' first album and the Sisters' first single were both slammed as being the work of poor Joy Division copyists, which was rather unfair on Bauhaus). Their use of minimalist and gothic art on record covers also had a lasting influence (for instance, the cover to the March Violets "Grooving in Green", designed by Andrew Eldritch, has definite similarities to the cover of "Closer").
Additionally, they were a major source of the term "gothic" as applied to post-punk music.
However, Joy Division were never a part of the goth scene; the goth scene proper started to emerge around 81/82, by which time Ian Curtis was long dead.
They were never really regarded as "goth" musically by goths, either, despite the obvious debts owed to them by a lot of goth bands. A lot of first-era goths viewed them as too "mainstream" owing to their posthumous popularity; also, their image was rather too bleak (from a Batcave point of view, they were decidedly unsexy). And they had their own following, the "long raincoat brigade".
Siouxsie and the Banshees
were not involved in the goth scene as such, but had a massive influence on it in terms of both music and image. Their music had been called "gothic" as far back as 1979, and their music formed the template for a lot of female-fronted goth bands in much the same way that Siouxsie's looks provided the style for many female goths. Between them, Siouxsie and Bauhaus pretty much designed the early goth look.
And, once again, the Banshees may have been important in establishing the use of the word "gothic".
Bauhaus
are the first band who cannot be comfortably classified as anything other than goth. UK Decay and The Banshees could be considered punk, The Cure could be considered New Wave, Joy Division could be considered post-punk, but Bauhaus were unmistakably goth in music, looks, lyrics, art and style right from their first single. In many ways they were the archetypal goth band. They were also involved in the early goth "scene", and had a major influence on goth fashion.
UK Decay
are almost forgotten now, but they were important movers in the early goth scene. Abbo, from UK Decay, was responsible for using the word "gothic" to tag the emerging movement.
Sex Gang Children
, along with Southern Death Cult, were one of the leaders of the new wave of goth bands who appeared in the early 80s. They are also most likely the inspiration of the term "goths" as applied to members of the emergent subculture.
Southern Death Cult
were the other leaders of the "Positive Punk" scene which sprang up in 1982 and effectively became the goth scene. It's quite likely Ian Astbury was the first person to use the term "goths", originally about the fans of Sex Gang Children.
The Cure,
like the Banshees, were not part of the scene, and were less influential. However, their music and image fitted, and they were adopted into the goth canon. After "Pornography", one of their bleakest albums, they suddenly went in a pop direction, moving away from a goth sound but inadvertently helping to bring the idea of "goth" closer to the mainstream.
The Sisters of Mercy,
despite their later dominance of the goth scene, were not that important in the early scene. Their main claim to fame in the early years is being the first of the second wave of goth bands to release a single, though their first gig wasn't until several months later. It's odd that the Sisters came to dominate goth, since they were so different from the rest of the early goth bands: they had deep vocals and a drum machine whereas most of the early goth bands were characterised by tribal drumming, and none of them had vocals much like Eldritch's. In 1982, the important bands were Bauhaus, UK Decay, the Banshees, the Cure, Southern Death Cult and maybe Sex Gang Children: the Sisters had yet to emerge from the shadow of Joy Division (reviews regularly commented on their similarity).
The Birthday Party
came to England in early 1980, at much the same time that Bauhaus & co were gaining popularity and some of the second wave of goth groups were forming. Whether they were actually a "goth" group as such is highly debatable (and I would be inclined to say they were very much their own thing), but they arrived at the time the scene was forming and played with a fair few of its protagonists, including Bauhaus. The "goth" tag may have been a result of this and the "Release the Bats" single (July 81), which the band regarded as something of a joke.
Play Dead
were never major movers within the goth scene. Although they formed in 1980, they didn't start picking up popularity until 82/83 and whilst they eventually put out three consistently good albums and an impressive number of singles, they never enjoyed the influence or relative mass appeal of the Sisters, Banshees or Bauhaus. However, in Mick Mercer's opinion: "they were important early on, because their crowd were one of the first to go to most gigs, as that whole touring ethos kicked in, where people started following one band at the expense of all others."
Danse Society
at one stage seemed poised to take over as leaders of the goth scene, but it never quite happened. They formed in 1980 and by the end of 1982, when they'd released their excellent "Seduction" mini-album, there was a major buzz about them. They had a distinctive and promising musical style and in Steve Rawlings they had a good-looking and charismatic frontman. However, they signed to a major label and things went downhill from there. In the end, their major contribution was probably in getting people interested in the bands around them by having attracted attention themselves.
The Virgin Prunes were complete oddballs, and as with so many other bands, their main connection with the goth scene was having a sufficiently avant-garde sound and image in the right time and place. They were mainly noted for their extremely theatrical and OTT live shows, whilst their recorded material was of variable quality ("If I die, I die" is probably their most accessible album).
Being buried in Space, or being buried on the Moon, the ultimate in burial services. Become part of the distant future by being taken into Space and travelling forever, visiting planets never before seen, floating casually through the Milky Way, going onto solar systems where other life may exist, time is of no consequence. Once you are dead, you could fulfill nearly every childhood dream of becoming an astronaut and travelling through space. This space burial service allows your ashes to continue the journey into the unknown, even after the Earth is destroyed, your essence will in effect, live forever.A Space Burial is where a small part of the deceased cremated ashes, are placed inside a small capsule, the size of a lipstick, and are launched into Space by a rocket. Once the capsule is in the non atmospheric Space, it is free to wander the universe on the solar winds. Gene Roddenbury, the author of Star Trek, is one of many who have been sent into Space already, as well as James Doohan, famous for his role as Scotty, in the television series of Star Trek. The first idea of Space Burials came out in 1977, and was the brainchild of Mr Richard De Groot, but was not taken serious because of the costs involved in Space travel and the price of launching rockets.
The first Space Burial was carried out on April 21st 1997, when the partial remains of twenty four people were carried eleven kilometers above the Canary Islands on a Pegasus Rocket, attached to an airplane. The rocket then carried the remains into Spaceand orbited the Earth. The weight of the deceased persons ashes that are sent into Space, is only one gram, and this ca cost about $10,000, for a couple it would cost $30,000, and that would be in a capsule which fourteen grams can be placed, and the weight is equivalent to only one percent of a humans weight. Moon Burials
The has so far only been one proper Moon Burial, that was the former astronomer and space geologist, Eugene Shoemaker. In 1998, some remains of his were placed in a capsule and attached to the Lunar Project space craft, and was then launched on a one year mission to orbit the moon, taking analysis information. After the mission was complete and the rocket had ceased to be of use, NASA deliberately crashed their rocket into the South Pole of the moon, scattering Shoemakers ashes across the landscape. The normal Moon Burials, those ones which do not have the expense of crashing an entire rocket onto a very large rock, consist of part of your remains being placed in a capsule, and a small plaque with the deceased name, and is then sent off on the next available moon landing rocket. The capsule is placed in a small spacecraft with other capsules, and left on the moon, the remainder of your ashes can be scattered close to the launch site. There have been approximately 1000 space burials so far, with many more planned, some people have requested that on their death, their ashes be put into storage until mankind's rockets reach Saturn or Mars. It may be their way of having a seat to eventually watch the end of the world.
fallen angel ....SATAN
“Listen to these words, for they come from all the souls which comprise my being. The words are simple, yet they hold power. Abide by them and they shall serve thee well.”
Do unto others as ye wish to do unto them. For this is thy right as a being of free will. Thou may treat thy neighbor good or ill, as per thy will. But remember this: He also is free to respond according to his will; and it would do thee well to temper thine action with judgment.
Thou shalt not kill out of anger, lust or evil. Yet to protect that which is important—self, family, liberty—kill swiftly and without mercy. If thou art not willing to do this, ye shall lose all that matters to thee.
Worry not of covetousness, for thoughts are free and difficult to rein. Work, rather, on restraint in thine actions.
Worship not idols, symbols, gods nor men. Worship only knowledge, freedom and thine own self.
A man may do all that he wishes to do. Yet it may not always be wise for him to do so.
Listen to the opinions of others and weigh their merits, for others may see options ye have not. Yet follow thine own heart for the final decision. If thou art not willing to do this, then take heed: Thou hast delivered thy destiny into the hands of strangers.
Truth is beauty, yet beauty is not truth. Knowledge is power, but power is not knowledge. Keep thy logic in its proper sequence.
Faith is the greatest force within this universe. With it, ye may do all that is possible, and even that which is not. Yet ye must channel this energy within thine own soul: keep faith in thy hopes, faith in thy dreams, faith in thyself.
Within thee lies the power of the gods. To gain it, strive for understanding: of the firmament, of thine earth, of others, and most importantly, of thyself.
Seek the philosophy within thy soul, for others cannot reveal it nor dictate it to thee. Neither god nor man may lead thee to thyself, for only the individual soul knows its own path.
No one may control thee or manipulate thee unless ye allow it to be. Thee and thee alone art thy destiny’s master.
Thy path in life must be thine own, let not others choose it for thee. If ye wish a chance at greatness, follow thine own path. If it should lead to misery, so be it. At least is it a misery of thine own choosing. And remember, ye may always try again.
Curse not others if thy life is disordered, for the choice of direction rests ultimately with thee. If ye must curse, then curse thine own self for allowing it. Yet this degradation serves no purpose. If thou art wrong, state it plainly, then work toward its correction.
He who liveth without purpose liveth without life. If thou art without goals, then ye shall accomplish nothing. Know what ye would like in life, then seek it out. It is that simple.
Death comes to all, bidden or unbidden. Accept this, then live as if it were untrue.
Thou shalt always have choices in life. But this does not guarantee that they shall be favorable choices, and, at times, the best ye may do is choose the lesser evil.
Nothing is impossible. Thy limits are without limit. However, if ye do not believe this, ye shall find thou art correct.
If thou findest an inequity, ye must correct it. If thou art witnesses to injustice, ye must not stand idle. If ye come upon pain, then give relief. For if the lot of Man is to improve, the seer must be the doer.
Judge and let thyself be judged. For it is thy right as a being of free will. Yet live a goodly life so that ye may judge fairly. And, should ye be falsely judged by others, it shall matter not.
Hear the instruction of thy mother and father, for experience was their teacher. Start with these teachings, then add thine own learning, and change that which must be changed.
If thou followest the philosophy of others and add nothing of thine own, then thou art no more than a beast of the field and have wasted thy soul.
Carry not the sins of thy father with thee, for thou art thine own person and accountable only for thine own actions—not the actions of thy father, thy brother, thy tribe or thy race.
Allow thy children to live, think and feel freely, for the mother and father know not all things.
Believe in thine own self, and serve no other, for others know nothing of what is best for thee. Yet do not shut out opposing philosophies, for at times their teachings may be clearer than thine own.
There is no sin. Do that which is right for thee, for only in this shall ye find happiness. Yet remember always: thine earth is a shared space.
Let morality guide thee, but not out of fear. Rather, follow it for thine own sake.
Trust thy judgment with all thy heart. If ye can do this thing, then, truly, ye shall not be forsaken.
Believe in thine own free will. Listen to its dictates and not to the dictates of others. In this and this alone shall true happiness be found.
Blessed is he who findeth wisdom and seeketh knowledge, for these are more precious than gold; and the gain thereof shall be the immortal universe itself.
Friends are precious; keep them near. But thy family is sacred. One may treat them ill, slander them and do them evil. Yet when thy need is greatest, they shall always be with thee.
History is not a fixed thing. Although the event may remain constant, the interpretation is ever fluid. And the interpretation is all: for a grown man will look back upon a childhood act and see his guilt, where earlier he saw only vindication. Change the mind and change the past—and with it, the present and future.
Be not the hedonist, seize not the day without an eye to the morrow. Yet enjoy the flesh, for it is thy legacy.
Thou hast within thee gifts without measure and powers beyond comprehension. Ye need but use them. Take pride in thy gifts, pride in thy power, and pride in thy accomplishments.
Seek not the praise of others and heed not their condemnation—for within thee and thee alone lies the power of self-fulfillment.
Thou art neither better nor worse than thy neighbor, no matter how much more righteous or evil he may be.
Hope maketh the heart stronger, where desire unfulfilled maketh the heart ill. Hope for fulfillment and work toward its achievement. And if thy goals go unmet, ye shall still find peace, for within the journey does the true goal lie.
Error and forgiveness are the traits of humanity, fear and condemnation the traits of gods. Strive to be human; strive not to be gods.
Subjugate thyself not to God nor man, for subjugation knows no honor. Why should the Father wish His children to kneel in fear before him? Better to die free than to live as sheep.
There are those who understand reason and those who understand violence. Reason is wasted on the violent man and violence is wasted on the reasonable man. If thou wishest one to hear thee, speak in his language or speak not at all.
Ye may speak truth or deception, according to thine own free will. But to thine own self, know the difference.
If a man wrongs thee, look to thyself to see why thou hast allowed the transgression. Learn from it, then seek vindication or reconciliation, as ye see fit.
Others may lead thee to temptation, but only by thine own hand can ye partake of it. If thou later seekest to lay blame, seek thyself.
In life, some have more and some have less. Yet what matter? Peace and happiness stem from within, not without.
Do what ye will with thy life. Give freely, love freely and expect nothing. In this shall ye find true happiness, and there will be no reason for disappointment.
If thou desires an action to come about then bring it about. Ye may fail, but, then, ye may not.
There is knowledge in all things, in all actions, in all places. Learn from all things. It may come from the mouth of a child as easily as from the wisest of men. Always listen, always learn: Knowledge is all around thee.
Knowledge is a painful thing, for it always bears a price. Accept the risk and pain, for life without risk or pain is not life.
Look not to the Lord God for direction; look not to Satan. Look, instead, to thine own self.
Live each day as if it were thy last day. Yet live it also as if it were not.
If thou wishest to die, then thou art dead already.
Thou art stronger than ye can ever know, search for the strength that wells within. It is there. It is waiting. And somewhere out there, someone needs you more than you can ever imagine.
Life and hope are one. Seek thy gifts and share them. It is for this reason that thou art truly here.
If thou wishest life in death, then ye must live in life.
That which ye can touch and hold and lose is of little importance. The greatest thing in life cannot be taken.
It comes to this: by design, the Race of Man is half man and half beast. Thou art not beings of reason, but, rather, beings capable of reason. There is much difference between the two. Exercise thy capabilities.
Thou art a being of free will. Ye may follow the instincts of the beast or the reason of the man. The choice has been forever yours. Yet know this: a life ruled by the beast shall lead thee to subjugation and destruction, for it is the beast that is in thrall to the Lord God.
For everything there is a time: a time to live, a time to die; a time for peace, a time for war; a time to create and a time to destroy. Learn to tell time.
The flesh is a vessel, a conduit to the immortal. If thou learnest from thy travels, the destination is assured.
It is in thy nature to take the familiar for granted. Strive against this. Question always, question often, in this shall ye keep what is most important. The price for thine immortal soul is constant vigilance.
Seek to understand the unknown. Expand thy thoughts and seek out knowledge, for in this shall ye become as One in death.
The answers to all things are always within thy grasp. Ye carry within thee all that is needed to comprehend the infinite. And it is waiting for thee to find it.
He who knows himself knows others, for a piece of ourselves dwells within every other.
If ye have not known hate, pain, greed and cowardice then thou hast not known love, pleasure, generosity and courage—for they are all degrees of the same ideal. Accept both the good and the bad within thee, for there is no separating the two. Without one, the other has no meaning.
Until life has given thee its worst, thou hast not been at thy best.
All has been brought to bear against thee. Thine instincts were bred into thee; thy laws created for they could not be kept. Question all, for this is the path to Oneness. Heed not the beliefs, laws and actions of others unless they suit thee. And be prepared to die for this.
The cemetery in its original form — the northwestern wooded area — opened in 1839, as part of a plan to provide seven large, modern cemeteries (known as the "Magnificent Seven") around the outside of London. The inner-city cemeteries, mostly the graveyards attached to individual churches, had long been unable to cope with the number of burials and were seen as a hazard to health and an undignified way to treat the dead. The initial design was by architect and entrepreneur Stephen Geary.
Highgate, like the others, soon became a fashionable place for burials and was much admired and visited. The Victorian attitude to death and its presentation led to the creation of a wealth of Gothic tombs and buildings. It occupies a spectacular south-facing hillside site slightly downhill from the top of the hill of Highgate itself, next to Waterlow Park. In 1854 the area to the east of the original area across Swains Lane was bought to form the eastern part of the cemetery. This part is still used today for burials, as is the western part. Most of the open unforested area in the new addition still has fairly few graves on it.
The cemetery's grounds are full of trees, shrubbery and wild flowers; all of which have been planted and grown without human influence. The grounds are a haven for birds and small animals such as foxes. The Egyptian Avenue and the Circle of Lebanon (topped by a huge Cedar of Lebanon) feature tombs, vaults and winding paths dug into hillsides. For its protection, the oldest section, which holds an impressive collection of Victorian mausoleums and gravestones, plus elaborately carved tombs, allows admission only in tour groups. The newer eastern section, which contains a mix of Victorian and modern statuary, can be toured unescorted.
The tomb of Karl Marx, the Egyptian Avenue and the Columbarium are Grade I listed buildings.
The nearest transport link to the cemetery is Archway tube station.
Highgate Cemetery was featured in the popular media from the 1960s to the late 1980s for its so-called occult past, particularly as being the alleged site of the "Highgate Vampire".

There are many types of witchcraft, many of which overlap and all of which can be defined in different ways by different people, but here are some rough guidelines for their designations:
* African witchcraft:
There are many types of witchcraft in Africa. The Azande of central Africa believe that witchcraft causes all types of misfortune. The "gift" of witchcraft, known as mangu, is passed from parent to child. Those possessing mangu aren't even aware of it and perform magick unconsciously while they sleep.
* Appalachian folk magic:
Those who practice witchcraft in the Appalachian mountains see good and evil as two distinct forces that are led by the Christian God and Devil, respectively. They believe there are certain conditions that their magick cannot cure. They also believe that witches are blessed with paranormal powers and can perform powerful magick that can be used for either good or evil purposes. They look to nature for omens and portents of the future.
* Green witchcraft:
A Green witch is very similar to a Kitchen/Cottage witch (see below) with the exception that the Green witch practices in the fields and forest in order to be closer to the Divine spirit. The Green witch makes his or her own tools from accessible materials from outdoors.
* Hedge witchcraft
: A Hedge witch is not part of a group or coven. This witch practices magick alone and works more with the green arts, herbal cures and spells. In the early days, Hedge witches were local wise men or women who cured illnesses and gave advice. They can be of any religion and are considered traditional witches (see below).
* Hereditary witchcraft
: Hereditary witches believe in "gifts" of the craft that are with a witch from birth, having been passed from generations before.
* Kitchen/Cottage witchcraft:
A Kitchen witch, or Cottage witch, practices magick around the hearth and home. The home is a sacred place, and the use of herbs is used often to bring protection, prosperity and healing. Kitchen witches often follow more than one path of witchcraft.
* Pennsylvania Dutch hexcraft or "Pow-wow"
: When the Germans first arrived in Pennsylvania, Native Americans were there, so the term "pow-wow" to describe this practice may come from observations of Indian gatherings. Pow-wowing includes charms and incantations dating back to the Middle Ages, as well as elements borrowed from the Jewish Kabbalah and Christian Bible. Pow-wowing focuses on healing illnesses, protecting livestock, finding love or casting or removing hexes. Pow-wowers consider themselves to be Christians endowed with supernatural powers.
* Traditional witchcraft:
often follows science, history and the arts as its foundation. While sharing the same respect for nature as the Wiccan witch (see below), traditional witches do not worship nature nor the god or goddess of Wicca. They contact spirits that are part of an unseen spirit world during rituals. Magick is more practical than ceremonial and focuses greatly on herbs and potions. This sect of witchcraft also has no law of harming none, but does believe in responsibility and honor. Hexes and curses, therefore, can be used in self-defense or for other types of protection.
* Wicca:
is one of the modern Pagan religions that worships the Earth and nature, and it is only about 60 years old. It was created in the 1940s and '50s by Gerald Gardner. Gardner defined witchcraft as a positive and life-affirming religion that includes divination, herblore, magic and psychic abilities. Wiccans take an oath to do no harm with their magick.
In Traditionalist Witchcraft the festivals are festive times of celebration, but they are of less importance than the Full Moons. Note that celebrations and traditions vary considerably between Trads.
Many Trads are likely to keep only some of the festivals while other Trads may keep festivals associated with their honored gods. Some may keep Saturnalia in addition to Yule. Each seeker needs to decide for him or herself which festivals to observe. Of course, as time goes by, you will gain insight as to which festivals have special meaning to you.
List of the Most Common Festivals:
Imbolc - The Festival of Lights, also Brigit's Day, is sacred to Brigit, the Fire Goddess, begins on February 1st or the first sign of Spring. Candles are always lit.
May Day - Also called Beltane, is on the 1st of May, it is a celebration of the beginning of summer.
Midsummer - The Summer Solstice, (but is usually not on the exact day of the actual solstice), begins the night of 23rd June until following day at sundown. This is a national holiday in some Northern European countries.
Lughnasadh - Harvest Home, August 1st or on the Full Moon, still celebrated in Ireland and in some areas in Northern Europe.
Samhain (pronounced: SOW-an and not "sam hain") - October 31st or November 1st.
Yule (pronounced: you-EL and not "youl") - This 12-day winter festival starts at sundown on the 24th of December, timing it with the Winter Solstice according to the old Julian calendar.
Plus:
Twelfth Night - Twelve nights after the first day of Yule, January 5th, concludes the Yuletide season with a feast.
Suggestions
Full observance of a festival involves honoring that day with activities related to that festival. Dedicate the day as a special day.
Before hand, read about the festival you plan to observe. Note that when you do research, Wiccan rituals do not necessarily reflect the historic traditions and customs of these festivals. Read non-Wiccan books.
Decide upon appropriate activities. I recommend you buy special treats, special foods and drink.
On the eve of the festival (the night before the day of the festival is always the beginning of a festival), light candles and maybe incense. Enjoy a fine dinner. Families with young children may follow the meal with the children's favorite games.
On the day of the festival, do special things you and your family like to do. If you are alone, take a long walk in a park. Meditate. Visit a museum, art gallery, or see a movie. Do something appropriate to the festival.
I would suggest that if circumstances prevent you from doing much, then at least you might light a candle and have a glass of wine.
The moon's energy is cool, silvery-bright, and feminine. It has been known since ancient times that the moon has an affect on the tides on lakes and the high seas, on plant growth, animals, and human behavior. The moon rules over the life-giving liquids of our own bodies, such as the menstrual cycle and the cardiovascular system.
As the moon affects us physiologically, the energy of the lunar cycle fluctuates our emotional responsiveness and our psychic energies. Thus, it is for this reason that the moon has a direct influence on magical and spiritual workings. This is why focused emotion energizes magic. It is, in fact, redirected energy.
Because of the cyclical nature of the month, the timing of magical workings (spells) should be cöordinated to that phase of the moon that is in harmony with the intent or purpose of the spell. This timing in spellcraft has been acknowledged for centuries, possibly going back to the magic performed in the temples of ancient Egypt. The moon itself is a sacred symbol of the Egyptian Goddess, Isis, The Great Magician.
In utilizing the most appropriate lunar phase, you effectively provide the most advantageous energy needed to execute appropriate spells. Remember, a moon rise can occur in daylight. So, never think that spellcraft is restricted to night!
Below, the phases of the Moon are discussed.
The Waxing Crescent Moon
The waxing moon is on a journey to brightness, from after the dark moon (or new moon) to the full moon.
The moon first appears as a thin crescent moon sliver and progresses in size and brightness. The crescent is on the right side of the moon.
This period is especially favorable in matters concerning growth, protection, healing, advancement, abundance, to increase knowledge, spirituality, and fertility. This is the time for spells dealing with new beginnings of every nature or to draw something to you, in personal life as well as in business and finance. It is also the best time to plant seeds and new plants.
The Full Moon
The Full Moon is when the moon is completely in the sun's light and appears in her round silvery luminance. This is when the sun, Earth, and moon line up in that order and on the same line. That is, the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the Earth, so the moon appears as a full, round, brilliant disc.
It is during the full moon is when lunar energy is at its most intense. This ffects the ocean tides, animals, plant growth, and human behavior. Magic workings are especially potent at this time. This is always the preferred time for positive spells, particularly those most difficult.
The Waning Crescent Moon
The waning moon is when the Moon declines in size from just after the Full Moon to just before complete darkness.
The moon first appears with large brightness and gradually decreases into a large crescent with continues to diminish until only a thin sliver of crescent moon is left. The crescent is on the left side of the moon.
This period is especially favorable in matters concerning banishings, separations, endings, eliminations, reversals, . This is the time for spells related to the unwanted, relationship endings, relief of stress, the riddance of disease, ailments, and bad habits. It is also the appropriate time for house purification, and cleansings.
The Dark Moon
The Dark Moon (or New Moon) is when the moon is completely dark. This is when the sun, moon, and Earth line up in that order and on the same line. That is, the moon is between the Earth and the sun, so it appears completely dark to us, as if it disappeared.
As the moon moves in conjunction with the sun, rising in the morning and crosses the sky, unseen, during daylight. This meansthere is no moon in the sky during the night. Thus, this is the darkest night of the month. In the countryside on a starless night , you cannot see your hand before your face. It is complete and absolute darkness, like being in a void of perception.
But within this perceptual isolation, is mystery and wonder. When the spirit can realize the possibility of unrealized potential. On this day the moon moves in conjunction with the sun, rising in the morning and crosses the sky, unseen, during daylight. Many Crafters use the dark moon as a rest period, for regeneration, meditation.
The Moonrise Poem
Just like the sun, the moon rises and sets every day. The time of moonrise depends on the phase of the moon. It rises about 25 to 65 minutes later each day than the previous day. Therefore, the moon is out during daytime as often as nightime.
In magic, the presence of the moon is always desirable as it serves to boost magical energy. So, the following poem not only serves to provide a rhyme to help us remember when moonrise occurs but also goes to show that magic is forever cöordinated to the moon's divine phases. Daytime is as magical as the night!
The Dark Moon always rises at sunrise,
The First Quarter at noon,
The Full Moon always rises at sunset,
And the Last Quarter at midnight.
