Shocked spilled across my face as Star’s words reached my ears. Rape? How could I have forgotten about giving one of my best friends a ride home. Shit! All I could do was look at her face as slow tears made their way down her cheeks. Instinct controlled my hand as it rose up and wiped away her tears. Instinct brought my mouth to hers and thank God because on her lips I found my other side.



Her hands pushed against my chest and I released her. My shock was mirrored in each of my friend’s faces but also in the eyes of Ducky and Donnie I saw rage. I couldn’t bring myself to look in Star’s eyes. Soon a fist made a connection with my jaw and I saw her spun away by the two lovers. Jade tried to follow but a short dismissive gesture from Donnie brought her to a halt.



The three of us found no words to say to each other as we sat outside Pizza Edge. My jaw was hurting but no one took notice of it. Soon I drove Jade and Koda to their homes and waited for some sign to talk to Star. None came immediately and so I drove the long miles back home. Once I arrived I saw Star sitting on my porch and my sister handing her a soda. I hurriedly parked the car and rushed to her.



“So what’s up with you?” she asked.



“Star…” I started.



“I know sorry about the whole dramatic scene back there.” she said.



“I don’t think it could have been any other way.” I said.



“Well yeah you’re right.” she smiled the exact same way I remembered and in the that moment I knew I loved her.



“Do you want to get married?” I asked her.



“To whom?” she inquired.



“To me that’s whom.” I laughed.



“Sure just tell me when and I’ll have my dress ready.” she answered.



“I say now.” I said.



“Kills the moment.” she said quietly.



“No, just made it better.” I said.



“Alright where do you want to get married?” she asked me.



“I don’t know I just want to marry you.” I said to her.



“Alright if you really want to marry me then let’s go inside and you can tell your parents.” she said.



“Fine.” I said and pulled her inside with me.



Once I got her up and started up the steps, she froze. I looked back and rush of emotions controlled her face. One after the other, they all molded her face into different expressions. Fear came first, then wonderment, hope, and finally love came to her smiling lips. I bent and kissed her gently before she deepened the kiss.



“Come on.” I said and pulled at her wrists.



She came willingly now and we went through the front to a room full of shocked faces. All gathered around the door in a semi-circle. It’s not like my family to eavesdrop, well not all my family. But then my mother came forward and enveloped us in a hug.



“Oh I just knew my Robert would find someone.” she said.

Ducky kissed Donnie slowly, savoring the tiny pockets of privacy he had with his eternal love in the last few hectic days. A soft knock came at the closet door just as Donnie’s hand had started inching towards a very private place. Ducky groaned in disappointment, Donnie grinned at how worked up he had gotten Ducky in just a few short minutes.



“Um guys? I’m really freaking out here. Could you guys just you know not hang out in a closet when I’m all hopped up on anti-depressants?” Star asked tentatively.



“Star you can’t hide in my house forever.” said Ducky as he and Donnie stepped out of the closet.



“I am not about to go running around town where THAT boy can find me.” said Star.



“Well that BOY is what twenty years old by now? But anyway all I’m saying is that you knew to face up to Robert and deal with this weird freaky thing.” Donnie said surprisingly.



“Fine whatever. Go back in your freaking closet and grope each other. I’m going home. And Ducky? I gonna borrow some clothes.” said Star already digging through Ducky’s clothes.



Ducky nodded and disappeared back into the closet with Donnie right behind him. Star changed into a set of Ducky’s clothes. She now wore boy’s cut black pants with cloth straps, stainless steel chains and abundant zippered pockets. Star had chosen his favorite ICP t-shirt and kept her hot pink, high top Converse shoes.



“Um see ya guys later.” Star said to the slightly moving closet door.



Muffled sounds came through the door as she started for Ducky’s bedroom door. Two hands ventured out into the room as she opened the door. Star laughed, went back to shake their hands, steal armbands and handcuff them together.



“And you laughed when I said I was gonna be carrying these things around with me all the time.” said Star as she ran out the room and into the living room. “Oh HI Mr. Thomas um, I was just visiting with Duc…I mean Creighton. Well I was just leaving. It was nice seeing you. Um good-bye.”



Star breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped outside the house. In a few minutes Donnie and

Ducky would most likely be joining her or Ducky’s father would be on his ass with her. Either way something weird was gonna happen and the drama was going to pile up. Almost exactly five minutes later the yelling had stopped, Ducky’s father was carrying a gym bag full of clothes out the front door and Ducky and Donnie were running her to the nearest pizza place. The two boys found a bunch of freshmen at their usual table and had proceeded to ‘encourage’ the ninth graders to find another table. Star shook her head, a fight was going to break out sometime today and she just hoped she would be there to…help.



“I’m gonna get something to drink…you guys want anything?” Star offered as she rose.



“Nothing.” Ducky said.



“Whatever.” Donnie answered.



“Right so that’d be a large pepperoni, forty wings and three large Dr. Peppers?” she said.



“Yeah.” the boys said together.



Star laughed and put their order in, while getting their drinks she spotted Robert, Koda and Jade walking into Pizza’s Edge.



“Son of a bitch!” she said mostly to herself.



Jade spotted her and waved enthusiastically at her. Grabbing Koda and Robert’s hands she came over to the soda fountain.



“Star what are you doing here?” asked Jade.



“Um getting food.” she slowly.



Jade’s eyes drifted down to the cups of soda Star had just filled.



“So who are you here with?” Jade asked slowly.



“With Donnie…” Star began.



“Oh cool we’ll sit with you.” she said.



“And Ducky.” Star finished sadly looking at Koda.



“Oh…that sucks…um maybe next time?” Jade said linking her arm through Koda’s.



“Yeah maybe next time.” Star said as she pointedly ignored Robert’s presence..



“Star…” said Robert moving closer to her and putting his hand on her arm.



“Don’t touch me!” Star yelled.



Her exclaimation drew the attention of the restaurant and her companions. Ducky and Donnie came quickly and as Ducky sighted Koda a strange rage fell over him.



“I thought we agree to leave each other alone.” Ducky said tightly.



‘Jade I think you’d better leave and take THEM with you.” said Donnie was he placed a protective arm around Star’s shoulder’s.



“Shit.” Star said softly.



“What’s going on here?” the manager of Pizza’s Edge asked as Robert opened his mouth.



“Just a little disagreement.” said Star and Jade together.



“Well if this escalates any further I’ll be calling the PD.” the short, stocky woman said before she turned back to the kitchen.



“Star…” Robert began again before Ducky’s loosely balled fist tightened.



Star stepped in front of Ducky and spoke quietly.



“Just go away and forget about me. You’re good at doing that.” Star said.



Jade’s eyes widened and she hurried her companions out the door. Ducky and Donnie were comforting her when Robert came back with an air of determination.



“What do you mean by that, Star?” he asked.



Ducky began to move in front of Star but fell back as he felt a gentle pressure pushing him back. Star took Robert’s hand in hers and went out the door with him. Once outside her composure began to crack but regained calm with a steel like strength underlying.



“You left me alone.” she began.



“What the hell does that mean?” he asked.



“It means…do you remember the night I asked you for a ride from Munk-e’s house to mine?”



“No…”



“I thought you wouldn’t. Well you never showed up and I walked ten miles in the snow back to my house.”



“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to leave you hanging like that.”



“Ten miles is a long ways to walk. And there’s always bad people out there just waiting for a someone like me to come along.”



“What?”



“One word: rape.”

Star gasped in surprised as she flicked the lights on to see Donnie's tongue slip out of Ducky's mouth.



"Oh my...sorry...I'll come back later." said Star.



She heard Donnie giggle as she closed the door. Pulling the door open again.



"Are you laughing with me or at me? OH MY GOD GET A ROOM!" she shouted as she saw Donnie's hand move away from Ducky's ass.



Star's eyes widened as she heard the familiar click of Robert's tap dancing shoes.



"Shit!"



She pushed her way into the closet and uncomfortably close to the raging hormones of two teenage boys. Her hand rested on the cold steel of the door handle. She fell forward as the handle twisted and the door was jerked open. Right into Robert's chest, she fell and her face blushed scarlet.



"Well that looked like fun." she heard Donnie's voice faintly and Ducky's light slap to his ass.



"Aw...crap. Um thanks for catching me. I'm gonna go now. Cuz ya know Jae and I have a date with a guitar and I was supposed to find these two and now I have and we have to go. Um say bye everyone. By the way Robert excellent choice of clothing as usual." she said a embarrassed chuckle.



She reached and grabbed Donnie's wrist to pull him and Ducky after her.



"Bye." the boys said together.



"I can't believe I was in a closet alone with you two. And ew that better be drool on your hand Donnie." said Star with a look of disgust in her eyes.



Ducky laughed and Donnie's cheeks turned a pretty shade of crimson. Star's face went completely weird with a combination look of horror and amusement.



"Donnie! Looking pretty will not help your chances if this is anything but drool!"



"It's drool. It's just that you know what you implied is kinda embarrassing." said Donnie.



"Oh thank God!" said Star her body drained of energy after just a few seconds of a chance meeting with Robert.



"Do you have a crush on Robert or something? Cuz you're like acting weird." said Ducky.



"I always act weird. OK I need to sit down. And I SO do not have a crush on ROBERT!"



Just then Robert came running down the hall in a change of clothes and normal shoes. He stopped in strange position; his top half bent back, giving the impression that his feet had gotten ahead of him while the rest of his body had stopped a few feet behind.



"I believe I heard my name." he said innocently.



Star let out a little squeak and shot a helpless look at Ducky and Donnie before hiding her face in her jacket. Ducky took a step towards her but Robert gestured that he wanted to speak to her alone. Ducky and Donnie exchanged looks before nodding and silently telling each other they would wait around the corner incase Star needed them.



"Star...what's up?" he said tilting her head up, "Do you have a crush on me?"



Star let out a soft snort and shook her head.



"Please I'm only into...girlish pretty boys."



"What? I'm not girly enough for you?"



"Nope now...Donnie on the other hand."



"HEY THAT'S MY MAN!" came Ducky's voice.



Star laughed so hard tears came to her eyes.



"That's just...damn...that was funny."



Robert laughed softly and they talked for awhile more.



"So what's up?"



"Nothing."



"Why have you been acting weird around me?"



"I'm always weird."



"Weird-weird."



"I don't wanna talk about it."



"Star."



"Fine...I'm pissed at you."



"Why?"



"You're not here when I need someone."



"Oh...you know that there are other people you can go to right?"



"Yeah but none of them have...nevermind...forget it."



"...have what?"



"Nothing...I'm gonna go."



"We need to talk."



"Maybe later when I'm more...together."



"OK."



"Bye...I mean later...I hate saying bye."



Robert gave a her hug and they parted. Ducky and Donnie were on the floor...doing unmentionable things.
