I don't understand why the tax payer has to get involved with these things.

$85 Billion to AIG who has clients in 170 countries!

$20 Billion to the bloody Royal Bank of Scotland!



What is this? Not only are we more socialist than Canada but, we're trying to bailout banks the world over.



This morning on CNN I heard them saying what a leadership failure and horrible decision it was to vote down this bailout.



I was under the impression that the government had no right to do these things and that the people didn't want it either.



Thats why is was defeated you journalism school rejects.



Finally the Congress did something right! Lets hope they don't loose nerve. This is one thing you can point directly at Ron Paul and blame him and his supporters for a huge part in this victory for the Constitution.

As we know we are facing some very difficult decisions and the Earth is undergoing rapid change.



The main question isn't necessarily "Are humans to blame" but, given the facts, "What are we going to do about it?"



We should be looking at the answers from two perspectives:



1. What are we going to do for the future of humanity.

2. What are we going to do about the future of the planet.



While they are both connected it is possible for us, one day, to not need Earth at all and some time in the future that day will be forced upon us by our very own sun.



This writing is going to examine the causes raised and solutions needed for not only the near future but also the future many centuries from now.



In the end we will have to leave this planet so we must find ways of freeing ourselves from it.



Why should I be writing about this a millennia before hand? Because by examining future ideas and technologies we can adapt them for todays modern problems and hopefully come up with even more efficient, clean and easier solutions for today.

To the "anti-science" people aka half of VR:



You can't pick and choose which projects and experiments are worth doing over the other.



I could say it's not worth coming up with a cure ALS (Lou-Gehrigs) until we find a cure for the Flu, after-all more people die from the flu than ALS each year.



Particle physicists have no idea how to solve global economic problems but they do know how to keep us from going back the way of Neanderthal.



The avg. person has no clue what the LHC is even for and your going to say that after a few weeks of calibration it's not worth doing?



We spend 10x the amount a year on AIDS research alone than we spent on the LHC. I think it's ok for us smash some protons together in hopes of new discovery.



"What good can come from this?" None if the avg. population lets ignorance or personal disagreements get in the way.



In MY opinion questioning research or disagreeing with progress is the same as saying we should stop trying to find a cure for HIV, after all most people who get it did so by some choice they made.

The end times based on weather patterns? We've only kept accurate weather data for a few hundred years. The earth has had weather for around 3 billion years and humans have only been able to see the weather for some 200,000 years.



Having the idea that we can predict the future or say things are getting worse based on our current knowledge is folly.



I have seen a lot of people say that the Earth is overpopulated and that we need to have stronger population control methods. Stop complaining and off yourself..save the Polar Bears!!



The planet can sustain upwards of 12 billion people if we are smart about it.



If humanity as a whole could get off their asses, take responsibility and not be afraid of change or standing up for new technologies then the Earth would be fine.



Besides when did the African Red Breasted Purple Tit Goat become more important than people?



I'm going to write some papers on the future of humanity, global warming, new technologies and a few other things soon. Until then stop acting like a bunch of fools and quit being guilty for having an extra child, buying a new car and shopping at Walmart.

Now, I'm no expert but it seems to me that the US federal budget is a little off balance.



Did you know that for each $0.10 in federal revenue we spend $1.20? 9% of all revenue goes to pay just for the inflation.



I wonder how hard it would be for a terminally ill person with a really high IQ to become a citisen of another country? Australia, or the UK...maybe Liechtenstein :)

Medically speaking our eyes can respond to a single photon, however, our brains will only consciously process sight when 9 or more photons arrive within 100ms. This, of course, was not the question.



If a single photon crosses parallel to your line of sight can you see it?



The short answer is no. How is it not possible to see the "essence" of light? Because light travels according to cones and without a photon hitting your retina you won't see it. Photons do not beget photons.



This does raise the question, is light a beam or a wave? The short answer, both.



I still find it difficult to understand the answer to the first question, it is however 4:25 AM.

In the essence of the amusement of debate.For normal brain activity to be able to recognize the energy pattern of a single change in stimulus, with the entirety of stimuli presented then no one small change is overlooked. To see a single change requires a system that is more hardwired and overly sensitive to the very changes in the environment around them. It is indeed both a beam and a wave. im sorry but are you forgetting that the democratic "evil" is what allows you to speak your mind in this country?.....may i suggest a civics course to remind you that this little experiment we call america brought to us by the founding fathers of this great country, may in fact be the reason people are jaded today as a result of all the freedoms we take for granted, but never forget there are people in other countries who have it far worse than us and cant say in public that they dissagree with their leader or the government...through time we may have lost the spirit of what it means to be an american because of bad leaders like bush or certain injustices done by our government, but make no mistake democracy in its soul is not evil , the power that comes from its freedom may corrupt some , but at the core its most sacred and dare i say holy.

ATW, you've really let me down. First I've been in politics for years and teach Constitutional law. I think I'll pass on the civics course.



The United States is a Constitutional Republic with a democratic tradition. A democratic tradition is not democracy but the ideal of personal freedoms. The Republic is what allows me the right to speak my mind and you yours. If democracy was allowed to flourish then any and all law could be changed and rights revoked at the whim of 1%.



Democracy gives rights. Republics state that rights are not given but are inherent and since governments can not give rights they also can not take them away. Hitler, Stalin..all were elected democratically.

The Higgs Boson is NOT a freaking "god particle!" It's own expected mass is greater than the mass of the particles it's supposed to "give" mass too. Not to mention theres NO proof of it at all nor any adequate theories. Hell even their (ppl who came up with it) own equations don't balance out.



Even Hawkings (the guy I hate and the most intelligent person on the planet) agrees with me that it doesn't exist.



If you know anything about physics or even elementary math you should understand the "god particle" a presented and expected doesn't and can't exist.

So it seems those evil scientists are going to destroy the world. How are they going to do it? With the largest experiment in history the Large Hadron Collider.

Well first of all to make a big bang you need all the matter in the universe. Second, if you want to know the truth, we still don't know "what" the BB was, what made it go bang, what formed it or what happened before it. The only thing we know is what happened AFTER.



"A black hole will eat my babies!"



If you think the LHC is going to create a black hole capable of escaping then you deserve to have your babies eaten.

The probability of actually creating a black hole via proton collision capable of lasting longer than a few millionths of a second is about the same probability that YOU will be hit by lightning before noon tomorrow and be a sunny day whilst holding a plastic spoon.



I understand that people get scared when they don't fully understand whats going on what I don't understand is people getting violent, or spouting off things when they don't have a clue whats going on.



There are a few people on VR who keep making doomsday claims and I truly feel they deserve to hit by a car, I'm serious.



Of course the news reports aren't making things easier. I'm not anywhere near connected to this project and even I have been getting emails and calls from people worried to death because Fox said it could end the world.

Sarah Palin may not make the best VP for McCain.



Now I'm all for independent women and all that jazz but she does have a young child with Down Syndrome and now her 17yo unmarried daughter is 5 months pregnant.



It's going to be tough being the VP of the United States and taking care of her family. I'd rather she stick with being Gov. and help keep her family together than be focused on politics.



Realistically, no matter how strong a person you are you can't be a good parent and political dynamo in these types of situations.



Just my opinion.

From what I've gathered, she is McCains answer to "oh no, black man! You are NOT taking my office!" She is meant as a mere distraction... Remember she and Obama going back and forth for a spell, which was a brilliant political tactic by the "Pubs". Though, I must admit, these holders of office turn out mostly to be nothing more than little marionettes that are beholden to the multitude of "supporters" that helped them into office.



Now that I think about it, I am insulted that she was chosen as an "equalizer" for Obama -- it implies that a single mother with more baggage than American Airlines covers the lack of black on the "Pub" ticket. Hmph.
