My new daily routine (no joke). Wake up, eat, visit friend, go to tanning bed, relax, take a walk, eat, use hot tub, relax, watch a movie & snack, sleep. Not bad huh? Started about a week ago and don't care to stop it lol.
Obama, thanks for ignoring Easter, the most important Christian holiday. The US has 120+ million Christians and less than 10 million Muslims yet Obama has given multiple proclamations for Islamic holidays. Out of touch, hypocritical and totally clueless. Thanks for nothing.
COMMENTS
We don't have anything like that here from Julia Gillard as far as I know. She wasn't even in the country this year. There's an address from the Pope on television, but that's about it.
In a sense, I think that he is (Obama) somewhat right to "neglect" (if you will) the American Easter address. Fair enough that there may be a majority of Christians, but if he were to mention this particular even for this particular religion, he'd have to be making addresses for ALL the events on all the big religions to keep it fair. There can't just be one for one group. I can even understand the Islamic addresses, because it makes sense for him to be particularly respectful at this time. People will remember him for honouring the Islamic communities more than they will than for forgetting Easter '11.
Or so I think.
I've contradicted myself. O.o
I'm not entirely sure why he should be expected to acknowledge a religious holiday based on what other people believe. That in itself seems to contradict what we'd like to think America is about.
Although America is somewhat based on religion, he's not exactly supposed to be celebrating everything now is he? Ah well, I'm with Morri on this one if you don't mind.

He also went to church and had a big Easter bash at the white House. It's safe to say he celebrated Easter and made note of it to America.
That was supposed to be an embedded video:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/04/03/2010-04-03_obama_hails_shared_spirit_of_humanity_during_easter_address.html?r=news
Well Obama is a Christian so you'd think he'd issue an address the way other presidents in the past had done. If you're going to issue several proclamations for minority religions why not one for the majority religion, the one he belongs to?
And Images, going to church and taking part in an egg roll or whatever doesn't mean anything. Even non-Christians go to church etc on Easter. I feel he should have done more. I don't care if a person doesn't believe in God, most Americans do and Easter is damn important. There's nothing un-American or un-Constitutional with a president issuing a formal statement on the most important Christian holiday. Heck it's not even un-Constitutional to have the 10 Commandments in a state house.
I don't ever remember Easter time to be one of the big addresses made by all presidents of the past.
I think when you don't like a president, it's easy to see the flaws in all they do. Those flaws being a subjective thing. All due respect.
We in the UK have a government that would rather cater to minority religions/cultures than to the host religions/cultures. We take political correctness to extremes here...That, isn't right as far as I am concerned. I believe that yes, we need to acknowledge and respect other faiths or races, but we also need to fully support our own.
Well Bush did it for years and I hated Bush. The flaw isn't that Obama failed to issue one but that he's made many public statements recognizing Islamic holidays so why would he not do the same for the most important Christian holiday when there are over 120+ million Christians in the US but less than 10 million Muslims. Just a matter of equality which I thought the left loved.
Of course my "out of touch" line had more to do with other issues.
FYI, anyone who wants to buy gold, silver, copper, zinc, nickel or lead...by the gram, ounce or pound let me know.
I am a strong nationalist and Constitutionalist however I also support the notion of monarchy. Perhaps not for the US, but, I do think monarchy's have their place in the world and I think that you can have both a strong monarchy and free people without relegating the nobility to ceremonial status.
The monarchical system is one of the oldest forms of government only surpassed perhaps by that of tribal leadership and clans. Humanity naturally developed the imperial way and I do feel that there is a degree of Divine Right.
The problem arises when a monarch is given absolute power with no system of checks and balances. But I think that should a system be created with a strong constitution of rights, a separation of direct control between the military and the royals (they can't use the military whenever & however they wish), a government made up of the nobility and elected officials, and then an independent judiciary...I think it could work.
The King's role would be to advise, have a tie breaking vote in the legislature, the ability to introduce laws that could be voted on, and issue policy using limited executive authority (similar to the US president), be the commander of the armed forces in a time of war, and the ability to oversee economic, domestic and foreign affairs with a real voice.
To me there is nothing wrong with that form of government and I see nothing wrong with having hereditary titles. The monarchy could be predominantly funded by their own wealth. To show just how cheap a king/queen can be each UK citisen pays way less than $5/yr to maintain the current system. Now imagine if the Queen could actually do more than what she does?
There's really little point to this other than me writing a bit on how I feel but if people have the right overthrow a king then they should have the right to have a king and damn good one at that.
Ugh those stupid..stupidheads! True democracy is the last hope for America??? Give me a break! Talk about the few and the powerful leading all things and the denial of freedom to everyone else. That's what democracy gives you ya dunce.
Humans are far to flaky and emotional to ever make pure democracy work. Geez, majority rules thus the minority (which in many instances is around 40-48% of the population) gets tossed in the oven. That is pure democracy. And since in most cases the difference between majority and minority is less than 3% all you gotta do is sway the opinions of that 3% and poof you've got your wish.
America is not a democracy. Pure democracy is one of the greatest dangers to human freedom. Legislating "fairness" results in fairness denied. Stop living in fairy land, shut off your "social justice" TV show and quit reading that progressive blog and learn something about reality and the price of democracy.
There's a reason we have a Constitutional Republic. It's to keep folks like me (a minority safe) without forcing you (the majority) to do something you don't want. Why? Because it makes us all equal and it gives Fox the right to report and talk about whatever thing it wants. It gives Glenn Beck the right to only discuss conspiracies and it gives Al Gore the right to be a total idiot. It does not however give Al Gore the right to force Glenn Beck to talk about "differing views". Hell if you really wanted to be fair then we'd be forced to teach the Earth is only 6,000 years old!
Fairness doctrine, democracy, social justice and the right to entitlement is why one day we'll all be speaking Chinese. Because the only way to be fair is to let the radicals have control, those regular conservatives have been the majority far too long..it's just not right.
Piss on a Bible it's free speech, burn a Qu'ran and it's a hate crime. Bull shit.
The New American Way.
"Just in my own lifetime, when a kid fell off his bike, you helped him up, somebody's mom washed it off, gave him a cookie, and out we went back. Look at us now." (from a random interweb comment)
Now, the mom's a pedophile, the kid that helped him will get sued should the cut become infected for not calling 911 right away, the child's mom will lose custody of the boy for giving him such a dangerous toy and the bike maker will be forced to go bankrupt as their million+ customers now all sue for damages.
Some country we live in.
And another thing, why is it when a woman claims some guy assaulted her her name gets censored as "Jane Doe" but his name gets plastered everywhere? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? It can take years, if ever, for a guy who's name was spread all over by the media as a rapist to recover his reputation if he was found to be innocent.
Not that women faking rape claims is the norm but it does happen and if women and men are no different and all equal, then women shouldn't get ANY protections or additional security than a man does. Jane & John Doe should be fine, then if he's found guilty release his real name.
/End of rant

great rant! LOL
I couldn't agree more on the innocent until proven guilty, its the same in the UK. What further annoys me is the name and shame of pedophiles/abusers or Sarah's Law...firstly because it only drives real predators deeper underground, making it much more difficult to catch them, and secondly there are numerous cases of mistaken identity and if vigilante action is taken, then innocent folk could be victims of attack or worse.
AND, yeah wefemales want equality and therefore should not expect special treatment in law
/rant
Totally! lol As for the pedo thing A) pedophiles are those who are only sexually attracted to kids UNDER the age of 13. If you're 19 and had a 16yo bf/gf you're not a pedo and biologically speaking there's not a darn thing wrong with that. Hell historically that was more normal for most of human history than the set-up we've got today of "be a totally innocent 'child' until you're 18 and then for no legit reason once you're 18 you have to get out, get a job, go to school and get married". No wonder teens have issues like the ones today.
Jesus' mother, Mary, was around 13, Muhammad's first wife was 9! So the whole "ethics" of the 18/17 thing is utterly retarded. Of course getting a 9 year old preggers is beyond icky especially if you're a 45yo man but the point is our laws should be made based on science and reason. Morality should dictate legislation, legislation should not dictate morality. And morality should be based on logic, facts, individuals, what does and doesn't harm a persons well-being etc. Not personal opinions, religion or anything else like that.
If you decide to run for office let me know I want to vote for you... on the false "rape" charges I knew of several instances where a charge of rape was accused when it was instead a disagreement upon the payment of a prostitute and customer, he refused to pay she claimed rape. It's a real slap in the face to the true rape victim and luckily most often it was found out before any names were released to the press but not always. I agree that the names shouldn't be released of either party in this type of charge until the court case is over. Because even if found innocent, the name will be in small print on page 3 instead of big bold front page news when accused of the crime.
Well people seemed to have stopped participating in the things I do lol. I miss the days when folks would take part in my journal projects etc.

This has nothing to do with your journal entry, but I figured there was no one better to ask.
I recently received the Satyricon in the mail, and I was wondering if there was a book that offers a similar glimpse into the culture of ancient Greece, something written in the same tone. I'm sure there is, I'm just...clueless. ha.
We're all in a state of lethargy, I swear!
people only wanna read when VR memebers write about another VR memeber. It's become pretty sad around here.
Yup. If you want journal reads, you gotta be in the thick of the drama.
I read, and I love your journal. I don't often comment, though, as I don't feel I'm informed enough to contribute to the discussion most times.
I'm thinking about running for president, well, sorta.
I'm still a decade or so from being old enough to actually run but I do think that I should start a "Xzavierfor2012" site for the purpose of addressing the issues and hopefully being a force for discussion. This country has a lot of problems and Americans are seeing more and more that most elected officials really don't care what the people want nor do they care what the Constitution says.
I may not be old enough to run for president but I have been involved in politics for years, helped support and run several independent and "under-dog" campaigns for local offices, governor (fact the guy I helped went from #8 in the 2000 election to #3 in the '04) and even president in the 08 election. I've also taught Constitutional law and I've got a bit of an interesting point of view being gay, Christian and of course belonging to a "vampire" site.
Anyway, I'd like you all to send me your thoughts on issues facing the country or your local area that you think need to be addressed. It can be anything from the federal debit to Libya to the right to marry your cousin lol. Seriously, tell me what you want to talk about, what you'd like to see happen and maybe through this project I can help.
It'll take a few to get everything set up and for now at least it's going to be a free website (not a .com, .org, etc)
People do this kind of thing all the time and some actually make a difference and that's all I want to do.
Well I got home safely last night after a 5 hour drive. The drive up was actually very hard and by the time I got to his apt I was in a lot of pain but thankfully the drive home wasn't so bad.
While I was there Kevin upgraded his phone and added me onto his plan so now I've got a new phone and a plan with actual national coverage (unlike the Cricket I had lol).
Being the helpful sort that I am I helped a friend with a paper they had to write for school on a sex ed programme. So when I'm done with it, lol, I'm going to put it up here so y'all can read how great I am haha. Honestly though I think it's pretty good. People don't really think about all the stuff that goes into teaching kids (in 3 dif age groups) about sex, abuse and development.
As for my trip, was there for 3 weeks and had a pretty nice time..better than last time for sure lol. Got to meet a few new folks to which was nice. And of course I already miss being up there and having someone around.
I'm working on an article dealing with morality and why it should be guided by supporting these 3 main areas: personal freedom, individual determination and well-being; not controlled by religion (that means Christianity, Islam and even atheism), individual/group prejudices or legislated as morality should govern our laws not the other way around.
Anyway I'm almost on the 5th page, should be around 10 pages long. I'm going to post it on my blog www.jacobboglewrites.com
Since I'm in Indiana right now and will be leaving for home in a few days it may not be posted until next week but I just wanted to let y'all know what I've been up to and to expect it :)

I'm in such a "bad" mood right now..need to find a friend tee hee
Australia is notorious for have amazing looking people.
Those lucky Aussies!
In around 6-7 years about 97% of living WWII vets will have died. There are only 2 WWI vets alive today and none in the US.
When I was born the oldest living person was born in 1870, today no one is alive from before 1896. When I was younger I had the pleasure of meeting several people born in 1889-1895. And when my mom was born a vet of the civil war was still living! (of course I've been able to met several true sons and daughters of Confederate veterans)
Today there are less than 70 people on Earth born before 1900.
To me it's a very sad and interesting thing. When I was a kid it was the 1990s and my whole world experience was of people being born in the 1900s and so it was a really cool thing (though to me at least not super rare) for someone to be born in the 1800s. But today that's all changed and even those born 1900-1919 are becoming incredibly few. I remember thinking how cool it would be to meet someone from the 1800s and now one day it will be cool to meet a person born in the 1980-90s.
I do have what's commonly known as "Peter Pan Syndrom" so I've always seen myself as young and even today I feel like I should be 17-20, not my actual age.
It amazes me when I hear about kids born less than a decade after me talking about "old" movies like Free Willy. When I was a kid I watched "Gone With the Wind" for fun, that's an older movie, not something less than 20 years old.
Of course it also freaks me out that ANYTHING in my life could be 20 years old.
Part of all this is of course because time goes on and you have new generations but I can't help but feel a large part of it is because kids today are not cultured, they aren't exposed to what they should be, they don't get to talk to people who gave us the world we have now (WWII vets, people who grew up without electricity, etc) and so they haven't formed the proper respect they should.
This is mostly a rambling of mine but I thought it was worth sharing.
COMMENTS
I agree with your observations about kids these days having no real heros. Instead the 'heros' are celebrities who dont even deserve their fame, no-one of any great worth in my opinion.
I grew up with stories about bravery and courage, and wartime heros, and I know it influenced my attitude towards right and wrong even. I knew how to respect, I had goals based on self-worth rather than on material posessions. Ah, the good old days LOL
I was putting on a pair of earrings today and realized that I bought them 19 years ago. Geez. Kids born in 2000 are tweenagers in the 5th grade! Slow it down; I want off!
I absolutely appreciate your point. I can't help but have a nagging feeling that the generations before us were also a bit pestered by our lack of culture . It seems like with each passing year, our generations become diluted versions of what they once were.
My question in all of this, however, is this:
How can we enrich ourselves and allow that to permeate those we leave behind? If we can be exuberant examples of what we treasured in previous generations, we will be able to make some sort of meaningful impact on future ones. I am positive that they will take note, just as we did.
Hope : I believe in it. :]
Thank you for this fabulous read.
It's so easy to say "kids today don't appreciate ancestry or yesteryear", when the reality is that for the most part, we haven't given them a reason to. We've all been so lazy and willing to let technology be their babysitter, that they don't even know what they are missing. Some of the happiest times in my life were when I was with my Grandfather. Now, I have the pleasure of spending time with my Grandmother and I am learning so much from her and her life's experiences.
It is up to us to make sure our children spend time with those who came before us. If we want them to remember and appreciate their heritage, we have to subject them to it more often than twice a year or when a holiday rolls around. We have to explain to them how it applies to our lives and truly engage them in that discovery.
My two cents, anyway :)
i enjoyed this. :) glad someone else thinks about these things.
