Oh COVID-19~ everything about you SUCKS, including the vaccine to keep you away (although I am grateful for the vaccine).
Yesterday, I got the first dose of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine. Due to some past illnesses and my predisposition to pneumonia, I qualified to receive the vaccine in tier 1b of Alabama's vaccine schedule (also I am a judiciary worker and have one last trial coming up at the end of April). Despite being sick as a dog today, I am grateful for the vaccine and hope that life will be able to regain some semblance of normalcy once I am fully vaccinated. Hopefully, this will be the end of those random texts "hey Theo, we were together at court on such and such date and I just tested positive for COVID-19. You'd better quarantine." I hate those texts and have gotten them twice.
For those of you who have not been vaccinated or who are on the fence trying to decide if it is worth it, I resoundingly say yes. The chance of death from COVID-19 for those who have been fully vaccinated is almost eradicated and for that alone, I would recommend getting the vaccine when available. For those of you wondering or scared to get the vaccine, my side effects are the typical flu shot side effects (sore arm, tired, muscle fatigue) with some extra added oomph of nausea and vomiting. I have been able to keep down some juice and 5 saltines this morning so yay for progress. Still, I would do it all again and will in three weeks. :-)
If you are looking for a vaccine but are having trouble finding one, check out vaccinefinder.org. It is very helpful in assisting you with locating a vaccine in your area. One thing I learned that I will share is that the data about where vaccines are available and the appointments available are updated at midnight each night. For us in Alabama, because the vaccines have been reasonably scarce, you have to be sitting on the website at 11:55 refreshing because all appointments are filled by 12:05. Hopefully, this process will become easier as more and more choose to be vaccinated.
Thus ends my VR public service announcement. :-)
