Where are you Christmas?

07:20 Dec 29 2014
Times Read: 447

How in the hell is it already after Christmas?!?!

It really just didn't feel like Christmas this year....

I saw the lights and listened to the music, bought presents and did the wrapping, I had holiday foods and more candy/cookies/sweets than is EVER necessary.... but it just didn't FEEL like Christmas!

Maybe because there was no snow... and 40 degrees F outside.... or because I was so stupid busy at work... or because all of my Christmas spirit was completely zapped and sucked out by a "friend" (who is now known as the Holiday Grinch... because she ruins EVERY holiday) or I don't know what....

I kinda feel like I was gipped on the spirit and warmth and fuzzy feeling of Christmas... and that is my favorite part!

My FAVORITE part of Christmas is sitting by the Christmas tree late at night with just the tree lights on (maybe a fire in the fireplace) with a good book and some Christmas music on....

I didn't get to do that this year and now it's done... Now it's on to New years and that's a whole other bag of Holiday drama and weirdness...

The fact that it was warmer and no snow to be had was why it didn't feel like it was Christmas.

Bowie Is...

03:34 Dec 09 2014
Times Read: 474

David Bowie is one of the COOLEST people to ever have walked this earth and I am lucky enough to be living in the ONLY USA city that will host the amazing "David Bowie Is..." art exhibit. And on Saturday I had the opportunity to go and see it!

It was so good! We couldn't take any pics in there because 90% of the exhibit Bowie himself owns and is part of his private collection. Which I think makes it all so much cooler.

There was SO much to see and look at. Costumes, shoes!, keys to his old apartments, hand written sheet music and letters, drawings and paintings of his (most have never been seen in public before), his old guitars and saxophones, his cocaine spoon.... Just SO many things!

all the exhibits were set up sort of by milestones in his life and then semi by decade. So you pretty much walked through his life which was really cool.

I didn't know he did mime work! Like actual mime stuff! I knew he did some as part of his persona's but he did just plain old mimey things and they had an old video of him doing it which was super cool.

They had a lot of the music vids playing by different costumes so you could see the costume itself and then the video or concert it was used in. You ended up getting stuck just listening and watching the vids haha! I got stuck in Life On Mars for a bit. SO GOOD!

There was a section dedicated to his stuff in movies and they played clips from all his movies which was cool. Now I just want to watch them all.

They had the ACTUAL crystal ball and riding crop from Labyrinth which I totally wanted to steal.... But I was a tad disappointed they only really had those 2 things for Labyrinth.... There was also a letter to him from Jim Henson saying that "this was the first rough cut of the movie but you can see where they were going and he couldn't wait ti hear what Bowie thought about it and that he (Henson) thought Bowie was perfect for the role"

Bowie was SO important to the entire soundtrack and the movie itself I wish they had displayed that a bit more... Really they could have just played the behind the scenes stuff off the Labyrinth DVD and it would suffice.... but other than than everything was pretty damn amazingly perfect.

You're guided by a personal audio/headphones thing... where its GPS synced so all you have to do is walk up to the particular exhibit and the audio starts to play automatically.

So if a particular section is too busy and you can't see you can move on to another piece and then go back later. That part was cool.

There was a problem with them though.... All the audio parts are on a loop and just continually play so when you walk up to it it doesn't start from the beginning or pick up where you left off or anything it just tunes into the loop.... and there is no real definitive start and end to the audio so you can end up listening to the same thing 3 times before you figure it out and move on lol

They said you should expect to spend about 90 mins in there.... Ummmm NOPE! I could easily spend 4 hours in that exhibit.... 2 in their big Heroes room alone! It just a giant room with floor to ceiling screens where they project him in concert... YES please!

I wish it wasn't leaving so soon. I would love to see it many more times to look at more things and in general absorb more of the BOWIEness :)

If you are in and/or around / within driving distance of Chicago IL... I highly HIGHLY recommend going to see this :) Sadly you have until January 4th to accomplish this then it heads overseas (to Paris, France next I believe) to continue it's tour :)
