If you live in the Chicagoland area you probably have already heard on the news that there is a pretty nasty Canine Influenza outbreak going on.
It's been a disaster.... I work in a Pet Hotel (which is part of a chain) and 3 of our hotels have been closed because it has spread like wildfire. We might even be closed down because we're starting to get cases and we're an hour outside of the city.
And of course this has to happen during the SPRING BREAK EASTER HOLIDAY MADNESS so we're fully booked and already stressed out.
We so did not need this right now. Not in the least.
SO for all dog owners out there it is recommended that you:
~ DO NOT go to dog parks
~ DO NOT go to doggy day camp
~ DO NOT board your pet
unless absolutely necessary. It is very contagious and can be spread through contact. Dog to dog, dog to person, person to dog... That's what makes it such a pain, you can get it and pass it so easily.
When you live in the city or even the closer suburbs, sometimes you just can't avoid it so please keep and eye out for these symptoms:
~ Dry hacking
~ Coughing that sounds like honking
~ Dry heaving and retching and/or vomiting
~ Reverse sneezing
~ Watery nasal and eye discharge
~ Lack of eating
~ Fever
~ Lethargy
And if your dog just doesn't seem to be acting their normal adorable selves.... A trip to the vet and a round of antibiotics are probably in order. Better safe than sorry :/
If your pup DOES end up catching it, it's at least easily treatable with antibiotics and rest.
Hopefully this thing gets taken out quickly and we can all get back to our fun pet activities especially now that the weather is perking up!
