I've been following the Chris Benoit tragedy for the last few days. I've probably read no less than 100 articles about it, on the internet. I WAS a Chris Benoit fan. I'm still a fan of his career. I'm very bummed that he turned out to be...well...a monster. Most of the articles I've read are regurgitations of speculation put out by the associated press. I'm not really impressed with the media's coverage of this. They are focusing on steroids and "roid rage." I think the problem was much, much deeper than that. We'll never know because he didn't leave a note.



I wish that Paris Hilton would do something stupid, again, so that the media would put all of their spotlights back on her.



I'm not one of those people who things that there is a conspiracy at foot and the whole thing was a setup by a third party to make it look like a double murder and suicide. Chris Benoit was an accomplished amateur wrestler, was extremely strong and agile. Somehow I don't think anyone was going to hang the guy without him struggling. There were no signs of a struggle.



He did it. Period. It's horrible. It sickens me.



I digress: Here is a link to what I think is the most thoughtful article that I've read about the subject. It's quite long, but it doesn't regurgitate a bunch of horrid facts. I would expect an article by an wrestling website to be very biased, but this one is not. It points to a much larger problem that I think really should be looked into.

I applied to get relieved on July 21.



As of last night, I was supposed to leave the ship in mid July. This was a good thing.



As of 5 minutes ago, my relief won't even come off of leave until July 29th.

It is annoying that I am required to request a relief 60 days in advance of the date that I wish to get off. Especially, when I am told, 30 days later that the relief will be overdue by at least 2 weeks. What's the point of requesting said relief that early if it's not even going to be addressed for 30 days? What's the point of assigning a relief when they know the guy isn't ready to go back to work.



I think they use a magic 8-ball in Crewing to help them with their assignments. No. Scratch that. A magic 8-ball would be BETTER than what they do, currently.



Bottom line: Never make plans. I should know better, I guess. Dammit.

Stab666 lamented in his journal about the game of Risk. Coincidentally, I played a lot of Risk on the ship, last year with a bunch of good folks. I like Risk. I always have. Anyway...



My biggest Risk pet peeve: Weenies that feel that they MUST hole up in Australia and play defense for the entire friggin game. Statistically, this strategy only works if you move OUT of Australia. 9 times out of 10, you're just going to LOSE. You tell people that, even as they are in the act of reinforcing the crap out of the island nation, and they just laugh saying that they have a plan.



Winning at Risk isn't everything to me. Blowing through New Guinna, taking that guys cards and saying "See, that shit never works." is what Risk is all about.

Aahahahahahaha!

Thank you imagesinwords for turning me on to a place I can go for a good chuckle. The VR makes me proud to be a "fringe" member of the goth subculture. Am I goth? Hell, I dunno. Probably not. I stumbled upon the very last Calvin and Hobbes comic while surfing the net, today. While reading it, I got a weird feeling in my stomach. Knowing that I couldn't possibly be pregnant, it must have been nostalgia.



If you didn't "grow up" with Calvin and Hobbes, you could probably care less, but for those of us who actually looked forward to the Sunday paper, because there was good stuff in the comic section, that very last Calvin and Hobbes was a "thing." Call it the end of an era or whatever. It was as big, if not bigger, than the end of Bloom County or The Far Side.



Anyway, there's no substance to this entry, I know.90% of the people who read this will be thinking "um...I don't get it." I just wonder if anyone else gets that same "feeling" when they read this.
