As things begin to cool down for winter she begins to warm to me. She has been living here for two months and she has done so much. She has helped me fix holes in the house and some how managed to get windows to replace all the cracked and broken ones.
She is a very interesting girl. She may have been warming up but she doesn't really talk and she doesn't even tell me her name. But that doesn't bother me one bit. As long as she contributes to helping around the house and finding food. And that is the big problem with the winter coming. It is usually the time when we go and find canned food to steel and save to cook and ration over the three months.
But for some odd reason I forgot to try and get goods. I think the reason was that i was trying to figure her out was more important. But it was strange.....she always leaves during the night and comes back late with goods. It does help especially when she comes back with tools and supplies. She doesn't say where she got them but I rather not know.
She woke up one morning and came into our kitchen. I was already there cooking and so she sat down and stared at me. "Soo...how did you sleep?" I asked. She did nothing but she nodded as in it was ok.
Over time I learned to just take her little signals as talking. I would always ask her simple questions and she would eather nod or shake her head back and forth. There was one time that she actually gave me a thumbs up when she tried some of my home made mashed potatoes. I honestly thought it was funny but i got to say that it was interesting to see her do something with her hands.
So I set a plate of eggs and toast infront of her and she started to eat. She looked at me and gave me what looked like a little smirk. It was amazing for me because I think that she was warming up to me.
She finished in a couple of minutes and stood up and just before she walked out I stopped her and asked, "When are you going to talk to me. Its been two months since you came here and it's driving me crazy."
She glared at me and then she sighed. I though I finally won and then out of no where she slid under my arm and walked away. I hung my head and went to cook both my brothers's breakfast and thought to myself, 'i thought she was going to give in...ohh well I will win someday.'
It was hell but it does makes things interesting for me. Because each day is fun because i try to understand if she wants something or if she likes something. It is kind of hard but it is interesting.
The one thing that I really enjoy most would be the fact that I felt less alone when I was around her. I don't know why but she is just so fascinating and I can't help myself but i felt like there was a reason she saved my tail that one day.
Later that day i walk outside to the pond to bathe and i thought i was alone. I look down to set my clothes on the branch and i spot pants and a shirt with shoes . At first I thought I was imagining it but when i turned around i was struck in the face with a small rock. It didnt hurt all that much but I went down from the force of it.
"GO AWAY PERVERT!" said a female voice.
I tried to open my eyes but i was afraid to. But soon I felt the drips of water and I look up to find the girl hastly dressed and hair still dripping wet and kneeled next to me. I don't know if it was the sun but the light made it look like she was an angel.
Then I look alittle higher and i see a pair of cat like ears. I point and she looks confused till I say, "you are a neko like me." She is at first giving me a blank stare then she grabs her hat and covers them. She then turns around and walks back to the house carrying her shoes and I can't help but keep staring at her back.
I have to admit it but her ears made so much sence now. Why she was just so different from humans and why she smelled like a demon. I have to admit but her ears are so adorable and I bet her tail is nice and fluffy.
I chuckle to myself at the thought of her as a neko. But then my thoughts drift off to a very naughty direction. More to the thought of her on my bed and wearing nothing but a pink ribbon around her neck with a big bow as she then purred.
I shook my head back and forth to get the thought of it out of my head. I have never been with a girl before let alone have those thought even about her. So I tried to destract myself while I took my bath. The sun warming the water and making it warm enough even a king of a desert would moan from the sensation of it.
As soon as I finished I went back in and she is standing there waiting for me. As if she was going to explain everything. But as soon as she looks up she had the small glint of hell fire in her eyes. Mostly because she was still pissed about the fact that I walked out while she was bathing. Although I have to admit I really wasn't trying to spy on her.
"Ok before you murder me let me explain," I said trying to sound brave.
She sighs and nods sittin gon the floor and I join her. "Ok first off I wasn't trying to spy on you, I just was going to take a bath but i didn't know you were out there already. And second if you are going to kill me please bury me by the creek," I said.
She then tilts her head down and I begin to think that she is ploting my death but then she does the one thing I thought she wasnt capable of. She started to laugh, and I don't mean a small cute giggle I mean she actually started to laugh. I look at her confused and i said, "Uhh is there something I said?"
She looks up face bright red and she wipes her tears away with her sleeve and takes off her hat and her ears are purked up and she says, "It's all good. You know I was gunna say sorry and that I was pissed but I lived here long enough to know you are a nice guy."
My mouth nearly hits the floor because for the first time in the past couple months she finally talked to me. And I don't mean a small three word phrase but a real sentence.
"Well...ok," I said not knowing what to say.
"I know that I was rude but thats because I didnt know if I could trust you."
"So your saying that you were testing me the past couple months?"
"Well yes because I couldn't trust people for a while."
"Ok....now that your talking what is your name?"
"Jess....just Jess. And yours?"
I grin. I couldn't help but feel very excited that she was finally talking. Talking to me and actually smiling.
"Well my name is Joshua," I said.
So we just sat there for a while talking about some random things. How we both like fish and how she really hates dresses of all things. So nothing really exciting in our lives but we seem to manage living it.
Soon the sun started to go down and evening started to make is appearence. So we both stood up and started to make our way back to the house. It was a long, quiet walk just like the first time I asked her to come back to my house.
Things seem to really have changed since she first came to live with us. Things seemed more lively and cheerful. Plus the best part is that the house was fixed up and ready for the winter months.
In the past we relied on the fire place for warmth but now that the windows were fixed and the walls were patched up along with the roof we can wander away from the fire without worrying whether or not we will freeze.
She is amazing even when she doesnt speak. But learning about her secret and knowing about what she is....is the first step to learning what happened to my race. She is the amazing girl in my life.
