stand

decorated

externally, only

outwardly putting

on the front of joy and

glory but underneath it all

I just want to be left alone

and lately, I feel artificial

but still, I stand there quietly

wearing your gaudy decorations

your flashing, cheerful lights and

hoping that I can be part of something

that might bring joy to your family

I see the fishy stickers

On the backs of all the cars

That cut me off as they rush

To get to the happy hour bars.



I see the preachers on TV

As they yell for us to repent;

Are the scandals they get into

Also heaven-sent?



I hear the children singing carols

As the holidays draw near

But it’s bloody video games they

Want to get at the end of the year.



Now I'm no angel either

No pure nor Christian child

But I do not understand

How this world got so defiled.



"What Would Jesus Do?"

Is the new marketing campaign

Used by people who know the world

Has gone absolutely insane.



It is marketing and commercialism

That has ruined the celebration

Of the birth of a man that was to be

The hope of every nation.



I hope the Christians are wrong

I hope that God shouldn’t be feared;

I can't believe the zealots

Who claim God has disappeared.



For He is all around us

And I hope He loves us all

For when our time is over

I would hate to see a Kingdom fall.



It is this time of year

When present buying takes its tolls,

They should instead think of Love

And how to save their souls.

If He knew his name was used

As it is used today.
