The Beach at dawn.21:47 Jul 26 2012

6:00 AM July 26th, I started my drive to the beach in New Buffalo, MI. I have a secret spot near a hotel and a few cottages that I like to visit when it's time to do some soul searching. It stormed on the drive there. I remember seeing lightning crackle and tear up the sky but never do I remember any thunder. It may be because my stereo was blaring and probably a few decibels too loud. The CD I listened to was a band I hadn't heard in awhile. Though I do remember seeing them play before, I was surprised I knew the words so well. As I sped through the hills and twists and turns of US 12 I smoked cigarettes and sat under a zebra printed blanket I grabbed off my bed to sit on once I got there. 40 minutes later I was turning onto Town Line Dr. just near the little convienence store that I've never been to all the times I'd been passed. I could hear it now, the sounds of the waves beating against the shore. It seemed louder than normal, like the storm was making it so windy there were bigger waves. As I made my way down the stairs I stood at the landing a moment, making sure to breathe in the newly found lake air and take a look at the horizon. It was grey and clouds filled the sky off in the distance, but it was clearer than i expected. I was happy to be standing there. After I got down the stairs my feet began to sink into the cool sand. As I trudged through the beach I noticed a sand castle that was still there from the day before. Seagulls lined the shore and flirted with the waves crashing in. This was it. I finally found my spot. As I layed down my blanket I kicked off my shoes and prepared to sit and stare at the water. I was happy I came. It seemeed to be just the scene I had wanted to be in. It was calm, although you could sense the energy coming from the beach and the storm that had just passed. I waited there for an hour or so thinking and daydreaming. I may not have reached a moment of clarity, but I do think my brain slowed down, making it a little bit easier to breathe. As I gathered my blanket and got ready to head for the car, I suddenly realized how alone I was. Miles from home, in the middle of a thunderstorm. I climbed the 3 flights of stairs with regret that I'd used most of my gas to get here. I stopped at the second landing and looked back over the water and into the sky. It was worth it. Finally, I reached the top of the stairs and as I walked to my car I remember questioning if I should go so soon. An hour later I was home. It was barely 9 AM and I was ready for some much needed rest.

sounds like it is a very interesting and beautiful place to be and just relax.. The last time I was in south bend I had the chance to swing by and see the most beautiful school in the world Notre Dame. I know their are others that rank up there to but this is my choice of the most beautiful schools.. I hope to go back their one day.

Very nice... Always something magical about both storms and the beach.

I live near Indiana Dunes and I do not take advantage of going to the beach like I used to. I could sit for hours sifting through the beach rocks looking for crinoids. I did make it there though, the weekend before the 4th. Found 5 crinoids and some beach glass. Best nights sleep I had in a long time that night.
