I read about what happened with a reality show and ads by Lowes. Unfortunately things haven't changed since the Puritans controlled things in this country. It is just more subtle. People came here to get away from religious prejudices but they can't. A certain "moral majority" thinks they speak for everyone here. Quite frankly I think most of them are looney. Someone who has been here for generations and practiced various faiths doesn't have ties to those that were born in foreign countries and their views unless they still have relatives living in some of these countries but their upbringing will be different and how they view the world.
I had a family that was Muslim when I did respite. Their son was highly impacted and she had women parties every so often. She would invite her friends and some of them being from Hispanic countries. I sat and talked to a lady from El Salvador. They have adapted to society and the mother where I was, was actually born in Russia even though her family was Pakistani by descent. Her father had been in the Pakistani embassy in Russia. She rarely dressed in traditional clothing. They ate turkey hot dogs wrapped in flour tortillas and a lot of traditional foods as well. She was a whiz with rice dishes.
Quite frankly I don't like either of these faiths but that wouldn't give me the right to go out and lobby against either of them based on a different point of view. Lobbying is political and the two shouldn't be put together if it is a bias due to religion. One of them and I am sorry to say it isn't the one being picked on but the other one has gotten out of hand. People came here to get away from these prejudices.
I was talking to a black man in the wash room where I live and we were talking about how he doesn't want to be called African American. He said he is just American. Some relatives of his went to Africa and like I thought there was no affinity at all to the black people in Africa. The cultures are very different. He said they had no desire to go back there. An American is just that no matter what their religious beliefs or race may be and I think identifying people by that standard is wrong.
How would they feel if I lobbied with a large group of people to get all the networks removed from cable that refer to religious beliefs and certain specific ones just because I personally don't believe in them. What a hateful group of people these people are from Florida. Should I blame the state because they live there. Hell no. Lowes is a business and they don't want to be held under the umbrella of religious controversy. I don't blame them for pulling the ads. It was a no win situation.
