Coming out to my family.

19:00 Feb 08 2010
Times Read: 586

So I'm having a really hard time with this. I want to tell my friends, and family that I'm bi. That I've been this way all my life but they won't understand. I know it would crush my mother. I come from a very religious family. That don't share my open minded views on a lot of things. I really don't know how to even go about telling my mom that I am Bisexual. I hear her talk all the time about how gross and unethical it is. Even tho she adores my gay male friends, and thinks there is nothing wrong with being gay. She believe's bisexuality is a choice, Not something that you are born with like being gay. I most certainly do not see this as a choice. My whole life I have tried to hide the fact that I have feelings as more then friends about women, That I want their touch, their kiss. It's not a very easy things for me to come to terms with but I have.

If anyone has any suggestions about how to tell my friends and family please hep me out..

Just be open and honest...share your thoughts and feelings with her.

explain to them that its not about being with a man or a woman. Its about love, gender has nothing to do with it. Bisexual is just a label, you can be attracted to a man or a woman..if it feels right go for it. Love you sissy..hang in there!

I'm bi, I've struggled with this as well. I realized though, that high school is a bad place to reveal something like that. Open minds are lacking.

So I kept it a secret and I still keep it a secret, my family and friends are clueless. As far as my family goes, its none of their business, they don't know many things about me, that's only one of them. With my friends, its a little more difficult because they're my friends, trust is a necessity. But I know that they don't see it from my point of view, and if I tell them it'll make our relationship awkward because they will then think things like "Is he attracted to me???" and its best if I keep it a secret. Maybe if I get better friends, more open minded friends then I will tell them, but not the ones I have.

As for your situation, in my opinion, don't tell your mother. Religious people (people raised religious) have a horrible skewed view on things. She won't understand. As for your friends, if they're truly friends (unlike mine) then they'll understand and accept you. I wish I had the courage to be more free.

Honestly, I think its easier for girls to say they're bi than guys. It's more socially accepted in society because you have to look at the point of view of most guys. "Lesbians...woohoo! Sexy!" "Gay guys...umm, gross they should fucking die".

The only advise I can give is be honest and tell them.

You can't control how they will take it but either they will accept you or be angry, Hopefully they will eventually accept you for who you are.

You can't live life trying to please everyone just be yourself.
