The Machida Demon Costume from the second season of the Joss Whedon drama series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Machida, who was played by actor Robin Atkin Downes, comes from the episode 'Reptile Boy,' and is an enormous snake-like demon who resides in the basement of a frat house, and is worshiped by the Delta Zeta Kappa fraternity.
This item, which is made from foam latex, was a fully functional costume that was worn by Downes. The head and neck are original makeup appliances that now rest over a dummy head for display which has been attached to the original costume below. Due to age, the foam latex on this piece is extremely dry and fragile. It cracks and flakes easily, making the piece in need of restoration. The foam has been cast over a plastic frame that currently fits over a display mannequin. The body features eye bolts on either side of the torso, just under each arm, where he was suspended for height. Machida has been cut at the waist, and no longer includes his very long snake-like tail. Due to production use and age, this item features significant wear to the foam latex. Please note that there are numerous breaks and chips in the hardened latex (see photos) and several of his fingers are missing. Local pickup is advised as the piece may not travel well due to the fragile nature of the skin. This piece measures approximately 46" x 24" x 78" (117cm x 61cm x 198cm) and is in relatively poor condition.
This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
